Gamespot just has a different opinion. The game IS much fun, but there are a lot of bugs, lag, and rough edges for it to be an 8 or 9. GOTG is easily a 7.8/10. I recommend it to anyone who wants a fantastic story with fun gameplay and characters. Sounds like an 8+ but the production of the game interrupts the flow of the experience greatly at times
Other reviews such as skillup and ACG said the combat is a challenge on higher difficulties and you need to be able to chain your combos intelligently, this guy played on easy.
I feel like the combat has more depth than what they are showing here in this review. Take for example scarlet nexus and how it really encourages you to use your teammates' abilities and skills.
Don't know about this reviewer and what qualifies him to review this game, but ill flatout tell you he is wrong in epic proportions. This game is an incredible take on the guardians and it deserves more than just a 7. Hell i even like it way better than the second film. The story takes you places you REALLY would not expect, with the locations having a ton of detail. So much so that there are locations that I've simply just stared at for a while just to take it all in. I've also laughed out loud quite a few times and have enjoyed the huge heart this game has. The characters that travel with you comment all the time and even point out when you go off the beaten path making jokes at each others expense, which shows true dedication. You would be doing yourself a disservice if you dont play it. That time i made a huddle in the middle of a fight, motivated my team well, to then return to the fight with the song "were not gonna take it" pumping through my speakers as i fired off shots left and right with my team brought a such a huge smile to my face, that it alone made me think it warranted the $60 purchase. Bottom line this is a great superhero game well worth your time. My only gripe is star lords jacket design...ugh(lol). But that is easily fixed since the game has a ton of skins for all the characters.

He just means that there is no strategic advantage in using the other characters. There is no rock-paper-scissors strategy to exploit weaknesses. Literally, anyone can do damage without any pros and cons.

And you only play as the one, main character. If you don’t see the ME DNA in this game I don’t know what to tell you. It is Mass Effect with funny hooligans instead of a trained military crew. And the combat is closer to Andromeda than the original trilogy because you have the rocket shoes to fly for short bursts.
Wait that doesn't make sense about the abilities. If the abilities don't matter and the fights go on too long isn't that due to the reviewer saying outright that they only spammed 2 abilities? So that's because the difficulty was set too low. He then complains about having too much health but says that the vast variety of difficulty options are by default pointless if you don't want extra challenge. There is some hypocritical notes throughout.
Abilities do matter a LOT, Star Lord's objective is not only to damage enemies, but setting up opportunities to use abilities. Combat with ONLY Star Lord feels extremely spongy and dull, it was a decision made to encourage the use of abilities. Also, the game difficulty is completely customizable, almost like Skyrim where there are TOO many options for you to tweak. I am 100% sure this reviewer didn't make use of those options to tailor the game to his tastes.
I couldn't disagree with this review more. This was my favorite game I've played this year. Death Loop bored me, Returnal was very cool, but too long for a Rogue Like that I didn't finish it, Far Cry 6 is what it is, and Back 4 Blood is pretty fun. Ratchet and Clank was the only game I'd compare it to or put above it. The story is fantastic, the conversations on the ship, especially when you find a collectible are very insightful and heartfelt. Just an overall enjoyable experience. Makes me realize how tired I am of the constant onslaught of open world games. And not to mention how faithful this game is to the spirit of the movie. The constant banter and jokes and the team overcoming personal demons and tragedies as the game progresses is awesome.
This game is great fun and the flying section you just shoot the stuff out your way. I think the way the cast/ writing makes the character pop off the screen and this game shows what avengers could of been. Combat at first starts off slow but I'm actually enjoying flying around and timing team combo attacks to stagger the enemy

@@tartimooal7898 broken street dates from local shops, early copies sent to arrive on release can sometimes arrive early in the mail or change your console region to somewhere else depending on where you live. I got this and have gotten others in the mail friday morning if its a Tuesday release because otherwise I won't get it until 1-3 days after release. So when they don't send it on friday I always cancel.
4:55 - 5:22 I had to face palm during this. You know, maybe the enemies wouldn't be that much harder or feel like they have bigger health bars if you used each Guardian for what the game recommends you use them for? I say this knowing many games that have the same "problem." :/

This review score is well wide of the mark. It’s easily a 9. Ultimately it’s a story driven adventure and it absolutely nails it. It’s got some of the best voice acting and dialogue I’ve ever heard in a game and all the locations you visit look amazing including inside your ship. You can tell a lot of money has been chucked at this game so it’s frustrating when some critic comes along and pours cold water all over it just because they’ve forgot what it’s like being a real gamer.
This game actually looks great! I'll probably pick this up. I think this reviewers thoughts on the combat may be a bit harsh, but we'll see tomorrow. I've played games with similar combat before, the character you play as isn't super filled out because you are supposed to use and direct your allies. I'm totally fine with that.
@@JackV315 I'm an hour in. The combat so far is fairly simple, but more engaging than the review made it sound. You can shoot, hover, punch, kick, and have special abilities. You also must direct each member of the team. Looks like each member will get 4 more abilities later, so that's a total of... around 20 special abilities on top of your elemental guns, melee, dodge, etc. Its plenty fun for me. Right off the bat this game had me smiling and straight up giggling! They NAILED the characters and voices! Even the character animations and facial expressions are way above average! And most importantly, its actually funny! All the one liners and jokes have hit beautifully so far! From watching gameplay, you can see the in game animations are a bit sharp and instant, but it honestly feels way more natural while playing. So, in summary. So far I like the combat, and am LOVING this game! They seemed to have pretty much nailed this guardians of the galaxy game! From reviews I can only assume the game gets even better moving forward! This just might turn out to be on my all time favorite games list! And I'm only an hour into a 25 hour campaign! So happy. I hope everyone else is liking it as much as I am.

Ahhhh I just started playing a game and immediately felt guilty that why I didnt try this game when it released. It is really a good game. Though combat could have been improved (it still has a potential), it is the writing that really set the tone. The banter between the guardians are one of the best and I am savouring every moment of it. Its a shame that this game didnt sell well (makes me an accomplice too) and there would be no sequel. I strongly recommend this game to everyone reading this comment. Just go for it.
I’m guessing this reviewer has never played a game like Devil May Cry? You COULD eventually beat the game just mashing one attack, but the fun is in discovering your own combos and playing the game the way you want to. Hades is literally 3 attack buttons with a similar style of discovering which power ups work best and that game won GOTY honors. I’m stoked for this game and can’t wait to pickup my preorder, knew it was going to be good from the reveal trailer!
I don't know if its just me. But this reviewer sounds like he rushed through the game Just to get it done and make the review. As someone who's been playing for the few hours that I have and am taking my time. All the things his mostly complaining about I disagree completely. But I also understand that if I was trying to rush the campaign. I'd probably find those small little tediums annoying indeed. I'd put this game at an 8.5

I’m hugely biased towards Marvel games, so I knew this would be a must for me. Pretty good score, but I swear gamespot turns their nose up at anything that isn’t a JRPG…
I loved this game. I only knew that Adam Warlock was going to be in it and that’s all that was really spoiled for me. I had ZERO idea what the story was going to truly be about and it got me super hooked. Yes, some of the fights can be annoying, but everything else is just amazing. It lets you make choices with what you say or do at many many points in the game and it will affect how your game unfolds. They really did go all out with this one
Gaming community is the worst. At one hand they hate micro transactions, multi player only games but on other hand don’t buy such games like GOTG, Dishonored 2, Deus Ex Mankind Divided etc. Such a shame we never gonna get sequels.
can someone help me...so I'm new to pc gaming and my question is how do you open up guardians mode? i see a picture of an arrow but I can't find out how it works..I tried the arrow keys then the arrow in the number pad and finally thought that the arrow had a mouse pad in the background but it doesn't make any sense i obviously cant move the mouse upwards because it says to hold with the arrow pointing up and thats impossible ...i can't progress until i tell the tree to make a bridge...and i can't seem to post on steam only look at posts
this game looks really good imo. I just heavily dislike Starlord's face, idk what it is, it's just that it looks like a person I'd usually never be interested in real life, either.
i am not trying to bash anyon but I have watched this guy review 5 games and all of his reviews were bad IMO. he has problems with the oddest, weirdest things in games that do not actually have a big impact on the game
This guy complains about how grindy the combat feels all while admitting to only ever using the first two abilities. What else do you expect when you force yourself to just use a pea shooter without applying any strategy or any of the abilities that you obtain later on?
This review is such a negative take. Being in the ship is great when u can listen to songs and learn more lore and Easter eggs. Combat us no where near as basic as this donny states. It's quite cool
The review is good. I agree with the score. But they really undersold the combat. It’s true you could make it through the game just shooting things and using some other abilities. But if used correctly the combat can be complex. I liked to mixed abilities of my teammates. For example, Rockets magnetic ability to pull enemies in one spot and then using Groots vine wall ability to take them all out at once. Also the abilities help with specialized enemies. I liked to trap flying and shield enemies with groots vines so they are easier to focus on. Just a couple examples how the combat could be complex based on the player’s strategy and choosing.
Go figure GameSpot giving yet another low score review to a game that at least deserves a 8 I only click on these review to laugh at their incompetence
If you own an original ps4/Xbox one then I'd say yes deffiantly wait and get it on a next gen console with a 4k tv. But if you have a ps4pro or Xbox one x then I'd just play it on that.
It's between 20-25 hours, not just 15. Reviewer must have, to no ones surprise, rushed and missed or ignored a lot of missable scenes and happenings. Dude was sleeping on the job.

I think the difference is in DMC mashing is not the most optimal strategy, whereas it might be in this game.

I finished the game on the hardest difficulty and I literally didnt have any problems with the enemies....just use all the guardians :|

I loved this game. I only knew that Adam Warlock was going to be in it and that’s all that was really spoiled for me. I had ZERO idea what the story was going to truly be about and it got me super hooked. Yes, some of the fights can be annoying, but everything else is just amazing. It lets you make choices with what you say or do at many many points in the game and it will affect how your game unfolds. They really did go all out with this one
Gaming community is the worst. At one hand they hate micro transactions, multi player only games but on other hand don’t buy such games like GOTG, Dishonored 2, Deus Ex Mankind Divided etc. Such a shame we never gonna get sequels.

Overall this game is an amazing single player experience and im enjoying it from the very beginning to the very end.
can someone help me...so I'm new to pc gaming and my question is how do you open up guardians mode? i see a picture of an arrow but I can't find out how it works..I tried the arrow keys then the arrow in the number pad and finally thought that the arrow had a mouse pad in the background but it doesn't make any sense i obviously cant move the mouse upwards because it says to hold with the arrow pointing up and thats impossible ...i can't progress until i tell the tree to make a bridge...and i can't seem to post on steam only look at posts
this game looks really good imo. I just heavily dislike Starlord's face, idk what it is, it's just that it looks like a person I'd usually never be interested in real life, either.

i am not trying to bash anyon but I have watched this guy review 5 games and all of his reviews were bad IMO. he has problems with the oddest, weirdest things in games that do not actually have a big impact on the game
This guy complains about how grindy the combat feels all while admitting to only ever using the first two abilities. What else do you expect when you force yourself to just use a pea shooter without applying any strategy or any of the abilities that you obtain later on?

This review is such a negative take. Being in the ship is great when u can listen to songs and learn more lore and Easter eggs. Combat us no where near as basic as this donny states. It's quite cool
The review is good. I agree with the score. But they really undersold the combat. It’s true you could make it through the game just shooting things and using some other abilities. But if used correctly the combat can be complex. I liked to mixed abilities of my teammates. For example, Rockets magnetic ability to pull enemies in one spot and then using Groots vine wall ability to take them all out at once. Also the abilities help with specialized enemies. I liked to trap flying and shield enemies with groots vines so they are easier to focus on. Just a couple examples how the combat could be complex based on the player’s strategy and choosing.
Go figure GameSpot giving yet another low score review to a game that at least deserves a 8 I only click on these review to laugh at their incompetence

If you own an original ps4/Xbox one then I'd say yes deffiantly wait and get it on a next gen console with a 4k tv. But if you have a ps4pro or Xbox one x then I'd just play it on that.

It's between 20-25 hours, not just 15. Reviewer must have, to no ones surprise, rushed and missed or ignored a lot of missable scenes and happenings. Dude was sleeping on the job.
