- In this video, I install factory LED fog lights into my 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom and wire up the GEN5 DIY harness. No need to pay the dealer $500 to install or visit to flash the BCM.

Bought my 2019 Silverado Custom in early August, had been wondering how I was gonna add fog lights to it. Found the shop chevy web site, made for my truck.... and without having to have the dealer flash the ECM... BINGO!. Now to order and install. Had Rigid Industries installed in my last truck, a Tundra, loved those... nice and bright!! Thanks for the E-Z to video!

When you hook up to your distribution box with the red wire, run this wire behind the other wires going to the distribution box. This will look cleaner. Just a suggestion. Awesome clip bro I’m going to do this to my truck . Thank you so much.

I just installed mine but I added a small in-line fuse before wiring it to the battery!!! I would recommend adding an in-line fuse.

You don't want factory led. That's what I have and I can't see shxxx. I miss my 2012 silverado, it had great head lights on it even though I have no idea what they were.

@@daviddavido872 the fog lights turn on automatically you have to turn them of by turning the switch to the right i believe
Thanks. It is unfortunate that the manufacturer leaves out safety stuff like lights, then tries to hold us from having it even when we provide it our self.
You have made the road safer until they offer adequate lights on all their models.
Gramps , put a fuse in the hot wire , if it grounds it’ll burn up the harness
Checked out the 2 links you provided for the parts. Looks like about $350 give or take in parts.

Awesome I’m trying to get fall lights for my 2019 all black Silverado LD 1500 I was going to replace the whole entire bumper then by the horns and fog lights and get the new bumper paint it which probably was going to cost me a lot of money but I believe I can replace the fog lights replacement thanks for the video

No I haven’t install any actually I’m going to replace the bumper with a new one that comes with dog lights also going to replace side mirrors the turn signal lights..

Sup gramps. I did this on my old suburban, took 2 hours with some fish filets from McDonald's lol. I wouldn't be able to do it on my truck now, because disabled would take me 2 days lol. but dealers just keep wanting money lol. Wtg, Ty tc.

@@FishINwithGRAMPS yea I fell off a ladder 5/12/99, can't forget lol, in a kitchen but neck hit edge of countertop. 27 operations later I can't stand straight so need total spine reconstruction but that would mean no driving or fishing with no guarantee would help pain. Have a dilaudid pump in left side with catheter through me and up spine, plus pain meds 6 times a day. Can't ice fish or hunt anymore, but can shoot and fish when friends help. Was 27 and had a big family already so did what I had to, didn't listen to doctors, was doing work on house and property day out of hospital, from hospital to home depot lol. Is what it is. That's why said before with your problems listen to doctors! I'm 49 now and will go as long as can. Know you love a kayak, maybe get a heated seat or cushion? Tight lines right. Ty tc

$221 for the lights and almost $200 for the harness and its almost what dealer would charge you lol. I just asked the dealer about this very same thing. I think I'll buy fogs and hot wire them to a switch in the cab.

I called 4 local dealers, they wanted between 425 and 850 o install and flash.

I just picked up a Custom Trail Boss, but I believe that I'll be getting the light and wiring package 250507 right from 5th gen. I want the separate switch to operate the lamps independently.

@@FishINwithGRAMPS In researching a little further, I'm just going to get the wiring from 5th Gen, and the lights from EBay.
5th Gen uses the exact same lights in their aftermarket package as the Ebay package. Going this route I can save about $100.

I'm always on, they have a different harness for toggling.
Are those the factory fog lights? How are you turning them on, you should have showed the switch.

that would be a question for GEN5DIY. I just went with the simplest solution they had at the time.
Do the fog lights turn on automatically when the headlights turn on? I hope I didn't miss this in the video. Curious since my light switch does not have the option for fog lights
The harness I chose has them come on with the headlights and also stay on with the highbeams. There are a couple of options you can pick chose from Gen5DIY, link in the video description.

My friend, love the channel and your DIY mentality. Quick question... why haven’t you invested in some inexpensive ramps? Big fellas like you and me can use all the extra room we can get, and my ramps have made working on my GMC when I don’t need a lift or jacks a helluva lot easier.

The connector you plugged into the headlight harness, is it the one that plugs directly into the headlight or is there another connector that supplies power to that harness assembly in the bulb or the housing below that you plug into? Thank you

I went with the harness that has them on all the time
When you remote start the truck the parking lights are on so while the fog lights also be one when you remote start it ?

Hello! At 3:40 was that the actual connector from the truck assembly or just the end of the connector that came with the harness because you mention at 4:20 that's the one that came out of the truck. You only needed to connect to 1 of the light harness correct?
good question, that is actually the one from the harness I got from Gen5DIY, but I was referring to the one from the truck that was a pain in the ass to remove from the headlight.

Warranty issues with this route? Everything is so complicated 😂 I feel like any electrical issues will be blamed on wiring install if not done at dealer.
could be right, but the only thing it plugs into is a headlight

I went with the dealer install, and my kit came with a toggle button for inside the cab that integrated into the cluster to left of steering wheel.
Super late comment, but how much did the dealer charge you to install it?

Hey so I’m looking at the kit on the website you mentioned I also have the same truck with the 5.3l , but on the website it says I need to have the BCM flashed .. did you have to do this also? Plz help!

They come on with the headlights, that is the harness I went with. They have a few options
I had the dealer install my fog lamps today but they gave me number to GM tech support so that they can re-program my computer to read the lamps...How did you bypass that process.??? Thanks

Did you call GM for a reprogram code? I don’t know why I have to reprogram computer for fog lamps. But I received a different harness that has to be plugged into the fuse box. But anyways that didn’t go well now only have the fog lamps install with the headlights but no power. So if I put the wire directly to battery fog lamps turn on but I can’t shut them off. Any idea what I can do? Thanks should I splice it to the headlight harness power?
i didn't use the GM harness, i used the GEN5DIY harness. It plugs into one headlight and the fog lights

Do u have a tip on how to remove the plug from the headlight? I was able to pull the red tab back but I can’t push down on it to get the plug out

@@daviddavido872 yessir..I had installed the harnest in a position to where that black casing with the coils in them was upward and when it started raining the water got in the case but they just sent me that black box shaped case and I installed it the correct way this and I haven't had another issue

@@daviddavido872 mine works accordingly with the headlights..when I turn off my headlights, my fogs cut off as well and vise versa

you'd have to follow the link in the description to go find out. I just use them for my dark roads at night.

The gen5 kit instructions say to plug into the 15 amp fuse on position 23. My fuse block does not have 23, any thoughts ? Thanksn

What’s the difference between the ones with the task lighting and the ones without
task lighting are the mirrors with the lights in them. Mine doesn't have that.

To what did you connect the last red wire at the end I dint get to where to connect it too?
When you take off the battery cover you will see connectors going to the negative and to the positive terminals I just connected it to one of the ones going to the positive terminal

Just bought a new 2020 Silverado. I noticed that the Chevy lights assembly kid comes with a harness. Do you get the other harness so you don’t have to take it to the dealership? I would get the kit without task lights. Appreciate your help.

no clue, I only researched a solution for my 2020 1500 Custom, but you should be able to find out on Gen5DIYs page

yup, that was the option i went with
