This song, A Year Late, ranks, I think among his overall best work, both as writer and performer. A crystalline piece of songcraft with the twin Weller attack of being brutal and gentle at once is on fine display here. You only need to hear this song once to INSTANTLY know what he meant by the title. Lachrymose and brutal simultaneously, as only the rogue Weller can do, in song, at least. This is the only Weller track that to me seems almost too private to release. Anyone?
I loved this when it first came out and hear it here for the first time in about 15 years. A grown man with tears of joy, bitterness, love and hope and sadness....as in this masterpiece. Peace dkomjath
This is in my top 3 acoustic songs by Paul , Country and English Rose the other 2 , but that changes often as there is so many sublime songs to choose from ,
@@nickterrett6613 wow, that's a strong statement, All respect as a fan also but I'm truly intrigued to know what 50-100 songs you think are better than this? In case i've missed them for no other reason!! We're all different and that should be celebrated but I genuinely think this is up near the very top of the Weller tree....
I was so possessed by this version last month I immediately set out to figure out how to get the audio. I can't say I did the best job of it...but I am glad I did. I listened to it about 30 times in a row. Thanks again for posting this Brazil!
Back again to give it another look, even though I've got this performance on video. Anybody read the new Weller Biography? got it for Xmas and finished it by New Year. Very insightful. Still adore this song.
@BaronVonPenguin 'This kind of thing'? Is that your definition of the song/Nick Drake's songs/music? You could say that about anything. Why do you bother?
It sounds like he sings 'something warm like a blanket from' but the lyrics I read on't t'internet say 'something worn like a blanket thrown' Does anyone know definitively what it is?
there is nothing more beautiful in this world, than the sound of paul weller and an acoustic guitar............everything has a price to pay!
Myfavouriteshop that is the genius of Paul Weller, he can write something as beautiful as this and then put it on a B side for us to stumble upon.
f-ing beautiful. The man is one of best unsung talents around.
One of my favourite weller tracks too

I still reckon this is my favourite song, fom any artist. Beautifully performed.

Everything Paul Weller does is magic., 😎👍🎸🎶
This was the b-side to 'You do something to me' and there was a huge heart on the back of the single... my favourite Paul Weller song.
This is mind numbingly beautiful...... Thanks for posting.

huge Weller fan but this doesnt float my boat..could name 40/50 songs throughout his career that trump this..maybe even 100.
