- Have you heard about the Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey recall? It came out this week that Fireball has been pulled from shelves for supposedly having an antifreeze ingredient that was a cause for concern among regulators. So what did we do to cope? We made our own! Check out Brandi's recipe for a cinnamon-flavored whiskey-based liquor and let us know what you think.

Chem major here (chem peeps represent). Please stop spreading the notion that chemicals in general are harmful. Yes, there are a handful of chemicals that if you ingest/touch you will be hurt, injured, or even die. But i quote from my professor, "the poison is in the dosage."
I might offend some people about this statement (i mean no harm; peace yo), but one way to look at everything around us is by its chemical composition. The human body as you know it is just a set of chemical reactions that stop when we die. (Or we die when it stops? anyway) Everything is chemicals. If i told you that a mango has over 20 different toxins, I bet you will still eat one. Because - say it with me - the poison is in the dosage.
It is the fear of "chemicals" that drives the irrationality of some decisions. What people need is attentiveness and critical thinking over the chemicals around them, not a blind fear and aversion to anything "chemical."
...But i will still try the recipe because it sounds really delicious and cheaper. LOL

Propylene glycol is actually in vape oil (electronic cigarettes, vaporizer, whatever you want to call it). And from what I've heard, that's "food grade". Ethylene glycol is what's really harmful.

well, considering the fact that propylene glycol isn't harmful to humans, I would still drink it. It is a multi-tasker, and people just get scared when they hear chemical names.
It is mainly just used as an anti-freeze due to the fact that it has such a low freezing point, due to the fact that is is an alcohol.
Yeah, it's only an additive in antifreeze.
So was alcohol at one point. Guess what, water was as well. *gasp* water must be bad because it was used as an additive/solvent in things that could harm us!
And that is why such a line of thinking is not accurate.

Wow that was such a great explanation I understand how chemical ingridients work on alcohol, but now I know that it's imposible to die due to drink fireball
Anyhow. Made this at home. Any whiskeywill do Just stuck everything in a jar for 2 days and it was already good to go. 5 days seems overkill to me. Day 2 taste test got it already spicy and sweet. The aroma had completely changed and it was pretty much identical to the original. Now I only need to make moar

I hope no one takes this seriously. Please google it. You'll find that quite a few stuff contains PG. For example: Beer, packaged baked goods, margarine, cake mix, soda, ice cream, the list goes on. So yeah... chill people...

Why in the world would you use a $30 whiskey for this when all you're going to taste is the spices? Go for a 1.75l bottle of something cheap, and you will end up spending half what fireball costs.

I made this recipe and it's great. The longer the whiskey sits in the fridge the more delicious it is. I used swerve for my simple syrup to keep the carbs down. 🥃
Just collected 1.5 gallons of 85% abv off my still. Gonna rest it a couple of days then proofing it down to about 60% abv and oak charring it before blending this recipe. Sounds great!
Do you not understand how many foods contain propylene glycol ....
Imagine people say they will quit using cough medicine because it in fact contains PG. This all started as a way to make E-Liquid look bad. Its incredibly annoying!

Ethylene glycol is antifreeze. Propylene glycol is used in "vape" liquids and also fog machines.

Its so funny that people are making such a big deal about this. PG is in alot more things then you think.
Propolyne glycol is used in like... everything as a binding agent or caking agent... sometimes used in laxatives...
been makin this with straight shine and loving it to change 1 day of time or 1 extra chilli makes a world of difference any other recipes would be awesome
PG dehydrates you, increases effects of hangover, is synthetic, not needed in Fireball other than to make a drink that is a fake liquer more thick, oily and sweet, like a natural liquer.
If you don't care about being overcharged for watered down whiskey and artificial flavours and oily fillers then drink up.
Don't forget to eat lots of the other foods PG is in too because, well because it makes cheap, bland, artificial products taste more like real food.

Some countries require labels have to include every chemical used in production of food items. Propylene Glycol is part of the coolant in refrigeration and not in the whiskey itself. So Fireball is completely safe to drink.

Tried and doesn't taste like fireball at all. It's good, you can definitely taste natural cinnamon, but doesn't taste like fireball. Maybe cause fireball might be artificially flavored, and therefore tastes like candy. I'd say if you want it to taste really like fireball, infuse the whisky with cinnamon candy instead.
I agree 100%. Bought a bottle of whiskey,$26.00 canadian, added simple sugar, cinomon sticks and red chili peppers. Set and shook for five days. It had a cinomon taste but a terrible whickey aftertaste. Added cinomon hearts, ground up. Better. Added one pint of FIREBALL. Better. Trying to save this mess. Find another receoi folks. Don't waste good whiskey by using this one.:(
the recall was only in england and other countries across the seas. it passes the USA standards for liquor not the british or whatever across the sea.

It dose not have any freeze in it it had glicerine witch is in all alcohol it helps with body and smoothness of the taste of the alcohol

It's liquor. Sugar based liquor spoils before hard liquor but it's still in the years. You'll be fine.

Brandi your funny...I wouldn't worry so much about Propylene Glycol, as I would Alcohol which is poison...just add 1\2 cup sugar to the alcohol, which will dissolve and would be as sweet as fireball.
The antidote for propylene glycol is Vodka.

Cheers Summer! Using raw(brown sugar) for simple syrup, there are ALOT of chemicals involved just to get sugar white!
Wrong on both accounts. Brown sugar is not raw sugar. Commercial brown sugar is made by adding molasses to white sugar. Second of all, there are no chemicals involved in the process to make white sugar, it's a 100% natural process. You can buy organic white sugar.
Just use Atomic Fire Ball cand. Or use other cinnamon candy.

The spiciness doesn’t come from chili it comes from the artificial flavorings that all contain harmless PG. you should be more worried about the food dyes your putting in you’re body everyday or the micro plastics that are inside your lungs or better yet even better the addictive substances you take drink alcohol and coffee

What the hell pg is found in many different types of fruits and vegetables and even found in vape juice. So do your research more than the front page of Google.
