  • How was our 21 HOUR ferry ride with the Grimaldi Ferry Lines? Mixed feelings to be sure. Great boat, good state room, smooth sailing but lousy food and bad service from a skeleton crew from Grimaldi.

    Great info. Was seriously thinking of crossing with the family in the summer. Will probably change my mind now.

      It’s still a fun crossing - off season. Just can’t imagine doing it this during the busy season. I have an Italian friend who is from Sardinia. He’s been riding the ferries for over 50 years. He’s says Grimaldi has really struggled in the past several years to put a decent product out there.

    We traveled Citaveccia to Barcelona in September 2022. Completely packed ferry, cars squeezed inches away from one another, way finding is a disaster, staff disappeared as soon as we got onboard. Toilet filled to the brim with shit and nobody available at the information desk to resolve. In summary a nightmare journey that I wouldn’t repeat.

      That’s awful. I was so happy with the voyage and so disappointed with the crew and service.

    I’m very interested in the port at CIVITAVECCHIA. We need to get from the port to the train station to Rome - are there ANY TAXIS? It seems like a LATE ARRIVAL - we your arrival let’s after a late departure or did you make up time? Thx!

    • @TravelsWithTony
      @TravelsWithTony  Рік тому

      We left late but made up the time. Since we were with car and had a hotel in Civitavecchia that night I never looked into taxis. A quick google search tells me you should have no problem finding a taxi on arrival.

      They say 2 hour minimum. I’m sure that’s a good idea on busy summer crossings. In February we could have arrived 15 minutes before

    • @TravelsWithTony
      @TravelsWithTony  Рік тому +1

      Yes. Excellent point. There are ticket windows in the main hall of the terminal building. They will scan your reservation and give you a room key (ticket with bar code). If you’re a walk on then go upstairs and cross the gangway. If driving, drive around the building and follow the line of cars.

    If this is a recent trip, not much has changed. Before covid, I travelled a few times with Grimaldi from Palermo to Genoa. The explanation for your negatives is Italian unions. Nothing, that's nothing, can be done about the staff/service. Until Mrs Thatcher reincarnates as an Italian

      Yes, mid February. But why the unions? Don’t they try to get more people working?

    Thank you for your video. Can you bring your own food on the ship (i.e., food items to make sandwiches, drinks, etc.)? Also, when I am looking at making a reservation, I have selected tickets for all six people in my family (which includes two small children). The reservation allows me to only select one room that only sleeps four people. We plan to have our two little ones sleep on the floor with blankets we travel with. Do you see that being a problem? - Not having a bed or seat reserved for all six of us even though we have tickets for all six of us. Thanks for your help!

    • @TravelsWithTony
      @TravelsWithTony  Рік тому +1

      I cant see how they can stop you from bringing food. But make sure you take it all up when you get on. They lock the car deck and you can't get back to it until the end of the ride. If the kids are smaller, they might fit two on the lonwer bunk, one on the uppoer, and one with you in the giant bed.
