The real pro way is to just use the dry vocal signal as a sidechain signal to trigger a compressor thats placed after 100% reverb on a send channel. That way it will always work, because its not bounded to an automation. Thank me later... Another pro tip, u should use this on leads as well.
That's what I do but I wanted to show people this fl feature
compress leads or compress everything else when lead is playing?
@@patyt1210 compress the reverb based on the vocal lead. The louder the lead gets, the more reverd is compressed.
Which compressor do you use? I find tube ones to sound the best
@@Rhyscape For the verb or delay to duck on signal i just use a FL Limiter on compressor mode or a fabfilter compressor, it doesnt really matter since its only handles the verbs/delays..
I follow so many people on UA-cam for these kind of shorts and not only are you the best and walking through each part but you explanations are very digestible without to much music knowledge. I've started finish songs for the first time this summer and wouldn't be here without your short and long tutorials. Thank you
😍😍😍 so happy to know that, thanks!
Just use side chain compression and send your reverb through a bus
This is the first short I've ever seen where I've actually learned something useful.
Actually didn't know this was possible in FL. Thank you for this tip, man!
Bro did a bathroom reverb 💀
He quite clearly said that he was exaggerating the sound to make it easier to hear.
@@L251125 and it sounds funny like a bathroom …
@@jacobvarney23no? And can you stop being dumb?
There’s no “beginners” or advance technique here, this is just your opinion of what each effect should sound. Moving more parameters around on any audio processing device doesn’t mean you are more “pro” that somebody else. In the end it’s about what the song needs… and that’s also just my opinion!
The actual way to create good space is to set a correct predelay, which also determines how far from the back wall, and how deep the mix goes in it's depth. It's how you create different ranges of depth between elements of a mix, pushing things back and bringing things forward.
Pros don't need to duck their verbs coz they've already addressed timing and masking so no transients are being smeared in the first place, keeping the main vocal clear from the start.
Mix using sends/aux and do a send channel w/ Reverb, add a fruity limiter, set the channel 1 as audio source to sidechain, set the knee knob to 0 (try adjusting this to Control how fast the sidechain compression comeback to the original level), and control the threshold to achieve the same effect. Do this with a variation of the slapback delay (1/8, 1/16 delays) and you have some of psychedelic effect in your voice.
You're gonna be stoked when you discover sidechains !
My thoughts as well. What he did was more time consuming than just adding side-chain compression on a reverb bus. Talk about professional mixing...
@@AJRadaza Yeah it's overall just a very dumb technique :')
Yes, that's much better and more flexible. Or link the "mix"-knob to a peak-controller with inverted peak (which basically is very similar to doing it with sidechain-compression).
I also think it's very dumb, unflexible and unnecessarily complicated to do it like in this video.
Agreed, sidechains sounds way easier but the articulator sounds good lol
@@AJRadaza seting up sidechain compressor takes more time
You could also route the signal to a new mixer slot and use fruity peak controller to automate the mix. It is also way more modular
Or you could use a compressor and sidechain it to the vocal. A lot easier and sounds great
Yeah and throw away fruity sessions get Logic or Ableton
@@tuxievous420no
@@tuxievous420 yes because switching software is definitely going to turn you into a better producer
Its way way easier in Ableton. Just send vocal signal to send channel with reverb with 100% wet knob. Then side chain compress rever channel with vocal as a driver signal.
Can do the same in FL as well, and its way easier.
Oh dayummm I always thought of some way to control the reverb relating to vocals but this, thus is just perfect.
You could also route your vocal (or any track you want reverb on) to a new channel. Add a reverb at 100% Wet. Then, add a Fruity Limiter, and use the original vocal track as a sidechain to control how much the reverb should duck. This effectively lowers the volume of the reverb every time the vocal is playing and raises the volume when the vocal is not playing. Of course attack and release can be adjusted to your liking.
Man that articulation tool for audio seems so convenient you have
If you really want to show the best of FL, place the reverb inside a patcher, activate the dry wet mix knob control, and make it controlled by the fruity peak controller. Now the reverb js controlled om the fly, and there's no need to worry the reverb not in sync when you decide to do chops on vocal or move it around
That's an insane amount of work for something so simple
Fl studio in a nut shell
Or use a reverse gate and automate it to the reverb mix knob. Same effect, less hassle. :D
Or just regular ducking 😊
Holy workflow
this is rly helpful cos i made a track recently but was unhappy with the reverb, i was using the reverb to help cure sudden introductions of audio.
the reverb just didnt last long enough as well. certain audio clips just stopped making audio so like i could barely get audio out of them, thanks man.
That’s actually very useful
This is the first useful video I’ve seen in months
That's actually genius and a brand new tip I've never heard. I had no idea you could make automation clips out of audio files- that's genius!!!
Thank you for this video, it really teaches something important, even tho I already knew it
Never knew about this, solid!!
Great technique. Thank you!
You can also do it with Fruity Peak Controller. Just link Mix controller to Fruity Peak Controller and select Invert.
This is amazing
Thaaanks!
thats a lot of steps for sc reverb
one of my fav channels rn ☺great music and super helpful tips for producing 👍thx a lot!🦅😇
Thaaanks! 😁
Another great tip from Wildcrow! 👌🏻
Thanks!
Man FL is really stacked with potential
Thanks for this quick tip
Crazy cool short cut! Thanks so much
Gonna try this
I'm more impressed that FL has that many articulation controls. I'd sidechain compress that thing all day though.
This is perfect!
Wow! That’s really fresh news! Thanks a lot, dude!❤
670- i like this showcase it makes thing easier
Crazy bro 🔥
Sounds really good, always make it a habit to sidechain your fx when it comes to vocals! 🙌
SSL reverb plugin pretty much does this
That's an incredibly useful tip! Thanks!
An actual good tip not over complicating everything
Yeah you can use peak controler to modulate the wet signal automatically too without any automation
One of the best tutorials 🌋🔥
DAM U, IT CRASHED MY WHOLE FL STUDIO PROJECT, NOW I GOT TO START ALL OVER AGAIN!!!
Cool trick but I would want a little more sustain on the reverb tails I think
You can do this with Side Chain compression. Faster and Easier.
Thank you so much !
Awesome trick!!
Wow this is amazing
Man! I was wondering how you do this, thank you!!
wow, i knew how to do this using actual side chaining but i had no idea you could turn audio INTO automation like that!! i can definitely use that in the future thank you
Or your can calculate Old-school 60000 milliseconds divided by tempo speed. Then you can tweak your predelay and decay in milliseconds to the tempo of the song. Then you'll know how many milliseconds to set the gates on gated reverb also.
Thanks for the tips bro!! 💯🔥
Happy to help!
Nice thanks man
That was so amazing
double the vocal track. mono one and ad reverb to the other with reverb pre-delay maybe? maybe even add a eq to the reverb itself to keep the desired frequencies etc?
That’s a pretty cool FL feature, amplitude to automation curve
The beginner reverb sounded better !
I loved your performance in Mr Robot!
I didn't know this many tools were available, and it's wayyy cool! Thanks for sharing this clip tip!
I usually just send my audio to another channel throw reverb on it turn the dry all the way down, and automate the send volume plus you can add choruses and more effects to the reverb itself
If you put compressor above the reverb without automation it will sound the same
Good point. But using a send track with reverb 100% wet then sidechain with the dry signal is still way better, way easier, way more "professional"
another way to do a similar thing is send your vocal channel to an empty channel with reverb on it then turn down the dry completely on the reverb
This is like wet signal sidechain with extra steps
Great tip man❤💯
Thanks!
I didn’t know this! Thanks ❤️
This different 🔥🔥🔥
Usually if you can hear the reverb, it's probably too much, less is more.
A.K.A Sidechain Compression 😂
Wow. I. never. Knew. This. Thanks man
I always do sidechaining in the mixer, but this is a really creative way to do it differently! I will mess around with this feature 🙌
Really solid reverb plugin
This is suuuper helpful man
i like just putting a sidechain compressor over it
i also dont have FL's automation tools
didn't expected an actual good tip on a yt short
Side chain compression is a lot better and doesn’t require a masters in computer science to do.
Yooo that is awesome! Learned something new today. Thank you so much!
Thanks for making sidechaining 3x more complicated 😂 but fr I appreciate the video
This is amazing!
I use Fruity Peak Controller. It gives you maximum control over every aspect of this.
Good job man ✅
Learned something new
This not more professional and not sounding better or worse, it's just totally different.
Nah it sounds better
agree!!
Actually.
what does this even mean?
yep
Cool tip, but I think it's much easier and alot more flexible afterwards to link the "mix"-knob to a peak-controller.
Didn’t even know this was possible
Ayo this actually fire 🔥
Yessir, thank you!
thank u jordi
Never messed around with articulator tools before, can’t wait to try it out!!
dude changed the newbie Reverb to the next level newbie Reverb
Nice feature from flp
Good job man !
First reverb sounds better - as a SOLO. What does it sound like with the backing track?
That English from Murcia sounds very well fandango my friend
English from Alicante 😉
bro just put it in parallel and add side that way you get more controll over the reverb
it sounds better in the beginning hahahha
Use 2 separate channels for dry and wet signals then use the dry channel to sidechain the wet one. That's what I've been doing.
