Hilarious, was just talking to my brother about how to enhance my current boat cover solution. I too have been using PVC supports over the top. For the longitudinal stability I ran a small rope through the apex of each of the PVC pipe and tied a knot on both sides of each pvc piece then tied the rope at bow and stern. This worked really well. Where I was cursing was that I had not figured out a clever base system like yours. Instead I sat 2x4’s on each seat and inbetween on floor with holes drilled at each end to insert the pvc pieces. Worked ok but is a pain to take off and put back on. Love your solution Michael! Thanks for this, your timing is perfect!

You read my mind. I have been thinking about building a frame for my boat with the same parts and pieces. Kool build. I like it.

Like it, I've used the fiberglass bows and put cross bars on them.
Mine the cross bars have to be unbolted each time.
Your system is more stable with cross bow bases & easier to install & CHEAPER !!!!!!!
    Thanks love the videos !!!

Great idea. In the past I have used those black saw horse metal things with the front part taller and level with the windshield and the 2x4 sloping down to the shorter legs at the back so the cover sits like a V shape sloping off the sides of the boat. Works well and super strong. Not sure how much snow you get there but here in Ontario Canada, it can get really heavy at 3ft deep. Blessings and much appreciated.

Needed this one... I have an older fiberglass bass boat....I have done something similar but less than satisfying results. My walk through windshield causes my arches to pocket water. I was going to try to cut 12"x 4' ‐ 1/2" foam polystyrene insulation board, zip tied to the tops of the arches. Thought it would keep the boat cover from pocketing water without adding weight to the framework of the pipe. My windshield is flat across and pretty much looks like your Star Craft windshield with the Orange pool noodle cushions.

I just planted an arch up near the windshield and wham bam no pooling of the water. Thanks for watching Gene.

During boating season I keep my bimini top on then have what I call the boat port for winter to keep it in. It's one of those heavy-duty costco 20 X 10 carport things. The trailer is 2ft long so it's fits with the front and back covers zipped and closed. I keep a air drier in the boat to keep moisture out too. Need to get some light in the so I can work on it during the winter.

Simply Awesome! Where I live you have to have a building permit just to put up an antenna tower so I was in the process of looking into whether I needed one to put up a temporary Or movable, however you want to look at it awning, to park the 63 star chief I'm supposed to be buying underneath. If I do get it this is definitely going to be my best option for protecting it since I live beachside and aluminum and salt air just don't seem to agree. Thank you Sir!

Mike they do make 4 sided Ts. The only question is i am not sure what sizes they come in. You may have to look online for a large plumbing supply house for the availability.

What a great idea that is awesome and wondering how it’s going to get my cover to stay up on my boat instead of gluing if you bought some small screws put in from the underside and backside that way it doesn’t tear the tarp you can unscrew them in case a piece breaks easy to change

You could use a little wooden wedge to tighten the pieces up that go on top of the conduit for the cross pieces.

Just an idea that may help????
Cut some small lengths of pool noodle and place on either side of your center supports to keep them from moving. The inner hole in the pool noodle may be too small but they are glued together and can easily be split. Then slide them on the support bar and wrap a piece of duct tape around them and snug them up against the T fittings and you should be good to go.

my biggest problem is a right side console on my bass boat that sticks up too high. i'm using metal conduit and making a two piece frame that will sit on the wide gunwales. using 3/4 and will use pipe insulation to keep it from marring. this is for winter. i have a lightweight cover thats good for summer. i like yours as it sits and settles into an arch it just wont work for me.

    • @Michaelsbackyardmarina
      @Michaelsbackyardmarina  3 роки тому

The big win is you have a bass boat right. I have noticed on some boats this method doesn't always work for sure. As always Mr. Cranium, I do appreciate your comments and suggestions. I can always rely on your accuracy. Thanks for watching

Use small screws through joints instead of glue that way you can change it or replace a broken piece.

  • @jamescompanion4001

Dun that also .But must glue fittings,.. or snow load will pop them apart.,.. I found out yesterday. 🤧🥴 On my 18 ft Crestliner.

Only thing I might change is using a set screw on the bottom of the tee's instead of glue. If needed to change to another boat it would be easier to make changes and adjustments. Stainless screws of coarse. Looks good.

Ya, I’ve seen a similar system somewhere on UA-cam. This looks very good to me. Anxious to see how it works after the glue is in place. PS...who’s boat covers do you prefer, I’ll need one of those too.
    Thanks!

Mike, try PEX tubing next time. I'm pretty sure it has a mucher higher melting point than PVC elec conduit, so you might have fewer issues with the heat deformation you mentioned. Believe it is also thicker. Might cost a few bucks more, so do your own cost/benefit calculation. I know how hot the sun can get in Iowa--ex- central Iowa farm kid who grew up in the pre-AC cab era.

The only thing I think is cutting the pipe in half an the tea's on top use same size is the pipe so that way it don't slide
