Miller deserves as much credit as Hosoi for "stylizing" airs. He tweaked & contorted like no other. We never said "tweak air", we said "nose-bone" or "tail-bone", "cross-bone" or "boned out" in general.
Hey Vans and Jeff G., just gotta say, you're doing a serious service to skateboarding by documenting these points and people- and putting this history out to the world. Respect- and thank you. *A.
Dope video, guys. Thanks for posting. At 38, I'm in the generation of skaters right after you guys and it's tough to be the old guy at the skatepark sometimes. It's nice to connect with the history of it from time to time.
I really fucking love these letters! I've been eating ramen noodles all week to save enough money to buy the Grosso guest deck that Shipyard Skates made, hopefully one day I can meet the man himself and get it signed (I'm not usually into autographs but that one would go up on the wall for sure). Thank you Jeff, for everything you do.
I am 60 years old and and what upsets me more about my skating from back in the day was my backside airs. I could barely do them and barely out but I could launch frontside airs all day long. That bums me out! RIP Jeff❤🤙
Of course TH was the ultimate trickster (innovator, inventor) but Hosoi & Miller, especially showed us the importance & ultra-coolness of being stylish & unique, not to mention aggro, bionic, GNARLY.
I live in the middle of the fucking Midwest. The area I live in is like a black hole for vertical skating. Back in the 80s vert was everywhere but now all I dream about is a backside air on vert and no vert around its like a bad dream. One of these years I will win lottery and build my own.
I remember watching little Hosoi, riding for Sims I believe, he had the one with a fingerprint as a graphic, he was going over the fence in the holiday bowl at the Colton Ranch. Was way bio...
Awesome episode, i've watched it a few times and it hypes me up for a skate every time. Maybe a little too much today though, i tried a backside air somewhere i had no business trying, ate shit and i think i rebroke my wrist as it had only healed from being broken a month and a half ago hahahahaha. Anyways keep up the awesome show guys, its Gnarly as fuck!
They definitely did, Jeremiah! What were some of your favorite moments or tricks pulled by them back then? If you haven't yet, you can check out from Jeff Grosso here: bit.ly/2jauE7x
THAT WAS THE DUDE THAT PLAYED SHAGGY IN THE SCOOBY DOO MOVIE THAT INTRODUCED STAAB IN THAT LIL CLIP LOL.....FORGET HIS NAME. LOL HE WAS ALSO IN SCREAM LOL NOW THATS FUNNY
RIP Jeff. One of my favorite episodes of loveletters
I still remember the day I learned how to do back to back backside airs going higher and higher each time. Best feeling ever!
ErgoCogita that just happened to me

Its like a time capsule of skating history.
Of course TH was the ultimate trickster (innovator, inventor) but Hosoi & Miller, especially showed us the importance & ultra-coolness of being stylish & unique, not to mention aggro, bionic, GNARLY.

Polar Bear from Venice was possibly the first successful backside air. This is Adam (Freeballs), an old friend of Buddy and Rick's.

Mike McGill and Alan Gelfand were from Florida so he wasn't joking.

I just want to charge some vert as hard as I can and see what happens so bad, no good vert in town
1:15 same goes for most all other tricks
"The 70's was all about gettin' low and goin' high"...the 60's was all about gettin' high and going down.
