Such clarity in her voice..Every word can be heard. I love this voice..no one can even come close to compare to KC. What great music The Carpenters gave us!
One of the silkiest smoothest voices in the music industry A beautiful remake of the hit by Ruby & the Romantics I think it didnt really matter what Karen was singing you just had to love her voice
I have heard several different versions of this song, bur this one, by far, is my favorite! It is so cool, and very relaxing to my ears! I love hearing Karen Carpenters on the lead vocals, her voice is so mellow, and very refreshing. And, I love the harmonies going on in the background. Man, I just love this song! This others might be more soulful or whatever, but I just love this rendition WAY better:)
The only time this and the other songs in the Carpenters oldies medley from their "Now and Then:" album have ever been issued individually (without overlaps or the annoying DJ overdubs) is on the 1997 Reader's Digest CD box set "Carpenters: Their Greatest Hits and Finest Performances."
What a rich, smooth, comforting, & relaxing voice. After so many years, when she hits the low notes in a song (as when she says "me" in this song), I literally can feel chill up my spine, or whatever that feeling is! What an amazing voice.
OK who else in our internet obsessed world today can sing as smoothly as Karen Carpenter? Not much as most music companies now require screech and noise above ability to melody
The Carpenters Music Moves the Soul...Karen Carpenter has the Heavenly Voice of an Angel...Too many tears because she left us...but sooo much enjoyment and Happiness for the music she left us...
I was introduced to the Carpenters by a girl I met upon return from Vietnam. Beside that, I have always liked them. My heart aches when I think of how Karen suffered looking for real love and died before finding it. RIP Sweet girl.
I would have loved it had they made a complete version o fthis gem, since it is part of a "medley" of AM classics. I am glad they re-issued it on cd, I can actually ingle this cut out! Ruby and the Romantics surely approved of this version.
A voz feminina mais linda que eu já ouvi....Inigualável! Que timbre...que afinação! Uma aula de como é cantar e não gritar... Karen "Eterna"!!!! Saudade!!!!
@mreunome I understand your disappointment. Your favorite is the Bossa Nova version with Ruby - & this ain't got it. However, consider this. A song may be done with 100 people, and it is never the same as the original. Ruby recorded at least 4 versions of this tune, and each had a slightly different presentation. Each artist, even the original, often give a song a "perswonal identity" rather than a copy. Each is worthy of being heard & appreciated.
Dear Karen, your mother, your brother and Tom Burris killed you. They killed an angel. I hope they burn in the hell for ever !!! - /// Please, rest in peace my sweet Karen, . . . my love !
Is Karen your favorite vocalist? If so, please go Google: LAS 50 MEJORES VOCES FEMENINAS DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS 20 MINUTOS ES Karen is in place Nº 3. She deserves Nº 1!!! Cast your vote, mark 5 points. (You can vote many times, just wait 24 hrs between one vote and the other).
Jay Jackson puked: "It's amazing how mediocrity becomes the standard when the mediocore are the majority. Her voice has no soul and this is a soul song. The sound is flat, dull and just plain boring. I like the Carpenters, but only when they the music they're good at. This is NOT one. Sorry. " You sir make mediocrity look like genius.
+Filthy McNasty Her voice has no soul? This is one of or the greatest female crooners of our era, are you tone deaf? KC sang with soul on every song, you're entitled to your opinion Sir but you've come to the wrong place to criticize her.
It's interesting to note, that the black community really loved her voice! But then again, the Carpenters as youngsters, listened to all types of music, Martha and the Vandellas, Ruby and the romantics, The Marvellettes etc.
A remake of a song should be your interpretation of the song. it should not sound just like the original. This version shows how a song can go from 1 version to another and still be good. Karen had a voice like no other this isn't suppose to be Ruby and the Romantics, it's Richard & Karen and it's lovely. Just like Luther Vandeross sang the Carpenters Superstar, unless you knew the lyrics prior that song is unrecognizable. Both version are beautiful in their own way. This song is no different.
so i'm thinking, i loved this song back in the day...who sang it originally, and...me thinks i too young for Ruby and the Romantics, and not Rudy Valli & The Four Seasons, so, ah ha, it was the Carpenters...
@MargeMargeMargeable .Yes , I was a little harsh with my comment. Anorexia is a lot more complicated then just not wanting to eat. Thanks for putting me right.
Only in the UA-cam Carpenter"s music are the credits played afterwards. When ever listening to a mix of groups there's always that annoying pause after one of their songs. Can the pause be eliminated? How about showing the credits BEFORE the song ends?
Karen's voice is great but the music is horrible . . . it doesn't have the magic of the original with Ruby. This doesn't sound like Bosa Nova . . . but like the organ was playing preset music. No one can beat Karen's vocals but I guess I'm too fond of the original.
@thereportersclinic Karen's voice is exceptional here, as good as Ruby's, but I agree that the production falls flat. There are just times when she should have done songs with people other than Richard. Karen understands what's behind this song. Richard just plays and overdubs in the same way he always did.

Dear God, smooth as silk. I don't think people understand what a gift she had or how hard it is to sing like this. Truly once in a lifetime talent.
dammit this woman voice is heaven to me, so distinct n effortless... wow....love love love
Such clarity in her voice..Every word can be heard. I love this voice..no one can even come close to compare to KC.

She was 20,21,22 years old when she recorded most of these hits. Insanely talented right outa high school.
Karen Carpenter had one of the the most beautiful voices EVER in music history--there will never be another one like her!!! RIP Karen😢
What a rich, smooth, comforting, & relaxing voice. After so many years, when she hits the low notes in a song (as when she says "me" in this song), I literally can feel chill up my spine, or whatever that feeling is! What an amazing voice.
There is no version better than this..

The original is better...Ruby and the Romantics

Beautiful sweet voice and amazing, she'll be in our hearts RIP Karen.
I love everything she sang. Sure wish her life had been happier and that she had stayed a bit longer!
The Carpenters Music Moves the Soul...Karen Carpenter has the Heavenly Voice of an Angel...Too many tears because she left us...but sooo much enjoyment and Happiness for the music she left us...
This is the best arrangement and the best interpretation in the world!!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🕳🕳🕳🕳🕳🕳🕳🕳🕳🕳🕳
You're the only person commenting here who has actually acknowledged this stunning arrangement. I agree whole heartedly.
we were blessed with an angel she was one of a kind! I wish more people my age listened to the carpenters
my theory is that young people need time for their good taste to develop. lol
Awesome! Love, love, love you Karen! In loving memory always! xoxo
One of the best female voices of all time in rock and roll
I was introduced to the Carpenters by a girl I met upon return from Vietnam. Beside that, I have always liked them. My heart aches when I think of how Karen suffered looking for real love and died before finding it. RIP Sweet girl.

!Estoy plenamente de acuerdo!
Concordo com você totalmente!!!
Best singing female voice I have ever heard!
What a voice! So smooth
Karen can cover other's efforts, but very few can best her. Look at all the crappy renditions of "Rainy Days and Mondays" are out there.
Very few? Should be 'nobody'more like it.
Word 😎
Absolutely wonderful! Then and now. Applause from Brazil!
I would have loved it had they made a complete version o fthis gem, since it is part of a "medley" of AM classics. I am glad they re-issued it on cd, I can actually ingle this cut out! Ruby and the Romantics surely approved of this version.
I love the way Karen holds the microfone. Unique
A voz feminina mais linda que eu já ouvi....Inigualável! Que timbre...que afinação! Uma aula de como é cantar e não gritar... Karen "Eterna"!!!! Saudade!!!!
Comentário *milimetricamente* perfeito!!!
Her voice was so mesmerizing and unforgettable.
I just love the unforgettable Karen Carpenter.
Wow..That vocal is amazing!!!!!!
The arrangement is amazing too.
I love the way Karen holds the microphone and the way she sing her own songs. Awesome interpretation
Held it the way she held her drum stick in that hand 🥁
Love the pleasant, lounge restaurant feel of this song. Just sounds so nice:)

Now and Then is my all-time favorite Carpenters album. Karen sure did a nice job of singing those oldies. Or, as Tony P. said, "FANTASTIC" !!!
what a loss to music industry
@No1KCfan6 wot made u hate this song? u shud also listen to amys version ull probably find it lovely

***** Why are you addressing this to me? I'm not the one that said her voice had no soul.
Go back and re-read the comment.
Great! By luck I ran into this file and it really brought me a few decennia back in time. What a great voice Karen had, she still moves me...
:)
Karen your voice is missed so, so much, brought back so many memories.
Wow, what an incredible women and song.
love them and always will, such talent :)
@CrescentNoon i love her
Thanks for posting this video and for the great stereo sound.
an angel voice forever
It's interesting to note, that the black community really loved her voice! But then again, the Carpenters as youngsters, listened to all types of music, Martha and the Vandellas, Ruby and the romantics, The Marvellettes etc.
Jody Watley has stated that Karen Carpenter is one of her primary vocal inspirations.
Herp Alpert's A&M records must have liked this song. It was covered by The Tijuana Brass, Chris Montez as well as The Carpenters all on the A&M label

Karen est magique......et d'une sensualité incomparable....
@MargeMargeMargeable .Yes , I was a little harsh with my comment. Anorexia is a lot more complicated then just not wanting to eat. Thanks for putting me right.
@adric137
This beautiful song was written by Mort Garson and Bob Willard and released for the first time by Ruby & The Romantics in 1963.
I still love the late Esther Phillips version. You can't keep a great song down!
To: Arthur Jenkins. Me Too!. This take is super cool. The control of her voice is amazing. Richard is extremely polished. Me Likee alot!
Only in the UA-cam Carpenter"s music are the credits played afterwards. When ever listening to a mix of groups there's always that annoying pause after one of their songs. Can the pause be eliminated? How about showing the credits BEFORE the song ends?
Love it
Super smooth. Superbly polished. Par Excellence.
Is there anything KC can not sing? apparently not......voice like silk and velvet....rest easy sweet princess
Thanks, Aki!
pic at start is pic on album cover i got it t bird
i've always hated this song, but karen's vocals make it bearable.
OMG I LOVE HER VOICE!

I like this one and Amy's, it's a shame that they both died:(
thank you. Simply the best.
@MrAsbelz
Txs
No dubt on that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To beloved
JoAnn ❤ hers is resting now ❤
Beautiful music to be sure, but the live video is a bit ghoulish, zombie like.

wots colour got to do with it music is for all
@coolsax64 you'll have to excuse her. she had an eating disorder.
What a shame to die for not eating.
did the Carpenter write this song?
i think amy done song proud
It's amazing how mediocrity becomes the standard when the mediocore are the majority. Her voice has no soul and this is a soul song. The sound is flat, dull and just plain boring. I like the Carpenters, but only when they the music they're good at. This is NOT one. Sorry.
