The DUMBEST COMMENT in NFL Thanksgiving HISTORY | Brian Sipe | Browns @ Cowboys (1982)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 лис 2021
- Prior to a 1982 NFL Thanksgiving game between the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys, Browns quarterback Brian Sipe, while trying to praise the Cowboys' defensive line, wound up bashing the Cowboys' secondary, saying that they're not very good, and that putting the Three Stooges back there would make no difference whatsoever. Sure enough, with this bulletin board material, the Cowboys' secondary not only shut Sipe down, but made him have the worst game of his career in a humiliating defeat. This is the story behind that dumb moment

Wise guy huh? Nyuck Nyuck Nyuck
Why you!
Soitenly!!! Nyuk nyuk nyuk...
@@Oliviacaptain well I oughta........
This is why Jerry "The King" Lawler says to keep your words short and sweet because you could have to eat them. Sipe sure ate his words that day!
Interesting fact: Brian Sipe had more career TD passes and passing yards than Danny White!
Yet White was more successful.. neither one won a super bowl but White Advanced further than Sipe in big games... White didn't throw a game away with a horrible interception 😳🤣
@@KevinWBrown-cm6fr Sipe's career started to go downhill after Red Right 88.
But did he have as many punting yards?
@@SadDad01 Not even close! 😂
@@KevinWBrown-cm6fr , I guess you're too young to remember the 1983 NFC Wild Card game, but I'm sure you can find it somewhere on UA-cam. 😐
Sipe is, and always has been, a class act….Kardiak Kids forever.
This was the Thurman Thieves era in Dallas. They intercepted more passes from 1981 to 85 than any team in the NFL. They gambled, they blitzed, they did many different things to confuse and disguise since their pass rushers like Harvey Martin and Too Tall Jones were in decline. Dennis Thurman, Ron Fellows, Everson Walls, Dexter Clinkscales and Michael Downs. The heart and soul of Dallas defense in the 80s. Walls belongs in the HoF. He was posterized by Dwight Clark as the man beaten on the Catch in 1981. Nine years later he was on the cover of SI when the Giants won SB25. In 1985, the Bears led the NFL with 34 INTs, the Cowboys had 33. In 1986, the thieves were broken up, the Cowboys had only 17 INTs and finished 7-9
The name "Thurman's Thieves" wasn't used until 1985 when Danny White came up with it during the middle of the season which was Thurman's last with the Cowboys, so, there never really was a "Thurman's Thieves" era. It was just a really cool name that lasted a few months.
Cuck the Fowboys!
Everson Walls...the wonderful wookie.
All these years later and that flubbed line from Pat Summerall still sticks in my head.
You meant Rookie
@@kashakamcpherson9719 no, wookie. Like I said in my post, Pat Summerall flubbed what he said about Walls. He called him a wookie...he must have gotten tongue tied.
@@dc1397 I refrain from speculating on why he flubbed his line 😉
@@eugenedenbrook322 How many years ago was that? Like, before Summerall's decision to get sober?
After the game, did the Cowboys send Sipe jerseys of the intercepting players, with the names replaced by Curly, Larry, and Moe?
They should’ve, that would’ve been awesome 😂
If that was today, it would get worked in and Skip Bayless would have the world's biggest boner.
Great video...but my goodness, what in the world was Sipe thinking? Somehow his compliment gave the Cowboys all the bulletin board material they would ever need. Wonderful video, for sure--Great story telling. Happy Thanksgiving
"Great story telling"
Thanks Mom.
As a Browns fan back then, I took a lot of ribbing from my friends over this one. It was ugly. Thankful for your vids and a look back at that era. Happy Thanksgiving. 🦃
Hey! Everson Walls was a pro-bowler and had 11 interceptions the year before!
Happy Thanksgiving JG9 Nation!
After hearing his passer rating, I ended up waiting for your catch phrase describing 39.6.
Sipe was such a great qb overall. And I'm a Steelers fan.
He was a "good" QB at times. 1980 was his best season. He threw a lot of Ints . Was 57-55 W/L for his career. He definitely had his moments but I would not say he was great.
He was my coach lol
I've always felt that Bradshaw's supporting cast was so much better than Sipe's. Bradshaw was a great QB on the Steelers. If you placed him on any other AFC central team of the time, not so much.
Sipe was way better than Mayfield.
💯
I remember this game well. It was the first time I ever had pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. I loved the pumpkin pie and loved that the Cowboys beat the Browns.
Today’s game was a bummer…Happy Thanksgiving any way
Happy Thanksgiving
After Red Right 88, I don't think Sipe cared what people thought about him.
I remember this. Sipe had sort of a knack for shooting his mouth off.
I listened to some of this game on CBS Radio and after one Cowboys sack of Sipe, one of the announcers cracked, "I wonder which of the Stooges got him this time. Was it Moe, Larry, or Curly?"
Those Dallas dark jerseys sucked then, and they suck now.
I remember watching this debacle in a bar in Philadelphia. I consumed alcohol at a prolific rate as it went on.
8:42 Bob Brewing? Bob Brewing? Was he 'brewing' up a cup of Joe??? Lol. It's Bob Breunig!...lol. Yknow ol' Breunig would have been great if he made a cameo on Star, Sky and Hutch!...😂🤣😆🤣😂🤣😀👍
He should have said, "The secondary is very good and is helped out by the front four. The front four is very good and is helped out by the secondary. They help out each other tremendously."
What would the passer rating be if someone did spike the ball on every play?
39.6
@@OfficialJaguarGator9 Which basically is an incomplete pass on every pass attempt with no interceptions.
You missed yesterday's video about the Chiefs. I need to know how long ago that was.
Three interceptions by the Three Stooges! 🤣
Cmon, there are those that can make Dr,Seuss, bulletin board material against English grammar.
I'll bet a live bird crawled into his turkey and he took a pie to the face.
Since I'm already vaguely familiar with this incident, I appreciate the full explanation. However, I feel it took a little too long to get to the point.
Instead of turkey, the Cowboys made Brian Sipe eat crow.
Wow! People got butthurt in the 1980s?!
Now it's a cottage industry.
You should cover the time where the bill almost fucked up their 1st playoff appearance since 99 by benching Tyrod Taylor for Nathan Peterman
That QB switch still doesn't make sense to me to this day.
@@marcus813 he has the poise of Tom Brady then proceeded to throw 4-5 interceptions in the 1st half
"Ohhh, wise guy!"
The turkey looked better on this day than Brian Sipe
Hey, the Stooges are the greatest! 😀
This video sounded really boring but I was engrossed and it was really interesting. Subscribed!
Well, that all depends on which stooges era he was speaking of. Was it the Shemp era or the Curly era?
It was the Curly Joe era... lol
@8:33 Nice tackle by Joe Delamiellure
9:59
He took his time setting it up, but here you go: the moment you all came for.
As soon as JG9 even mentions “Quarterback Rating” you know it’s coming.
Just needed to see the video header to know. It was comming
Which is worse..........
Sipe definitely gave the Cowboys secondary Mo bulletin board material.
So what you are saying, Sipe was Ben Roethlisberger in the 2020 playoffs
Instead of the Three Stooges, the showed up as the Marx Brothers.
Two other brief points: Harvey Martin belongs in the HOF. And while the Cowboys intercepted a lot of passes their gambling style made sure they gave up lots of big plays as well. It was a double edged sword. Tom Landry was a defensive back and a defensive genius, he was doing stuff in the 80s that had no name. I’m sure Tom Landry was doing the zone blitz long before Dom Capers
How were the teams 2-1 when the season started 4 days prior to the game?.
That was when the season resumed following a 2-month long strike
Before I clicked on this video I read Sipe’s comment that appeared and took it as nothing but a compliment to the Dallas defense. I was one of the biggest Cowboy fans during this time, but the comment was taken completely out of context. Seems like people were overly sensitive back then as they are now.
Not that crazy of a statement. Dallas front four and their secondary had a grudge against one another. Walt Michaels was an idiot saying that about the 78 Cowboys.
9:55 you're welcome
My favorite 2 teams played that day
Yes! The Drink the Spike mug!!! That was my idea! Now I have to buy one -- since I promised I would do so if he made them.
I assume the cowboys knew what Sipe meant unless they were a bunch of snowflakes. He obviously didn't intend to offend the secondary. But almost anything can be twisted into bulletin board material so you need to be careful when talking about the opposing team.
Brian Sipe used to bash in own team after the 1980 season.
Cowboys made Sipe eat his words. Also I know there has to be a dumb decisions video in the future after the Lions game today.
Yep he has to make a video about that game because the end was painful to watch
Calling back-to-back timeouts has to be the basis of a JG9 video the week after Thanksgiving 2021.
@@marcus813 agreed, he may wait until next year to make a video about this game though.
Another argument for a Dumb Decisions video would be Bisaccia decided not to take shots with all THREE timeouts to try to get at least a field goal attempt before halftime in today's game.
Hi Jaguar can you do a dumb decision today if there is one if not say why Matt Nagy should have been fired long ago.
You make excellent videos
"Sipe goes back, looking to pass.....Sacked by Larry Fine and Moe Howard!..... Loose ball!....Picked up by Curly Howard on the 40...30...20...10...Touchdown Dallas!
Played against Sipe in 1971 when he was in college. He was a really good QB.
the earlier game that day was the famous bears ot kick-off return for td on the opening kick off of ot-the first ever in nfl-for the game winning td vs. lions.
That was 2 years earlier (1980), by process of elimination using the rotating divisions non-conf schedule, Dallas would have been hosting either Oak, Den, SD, or Sea in '80.
The Lions lost 13-7 to the Giants that Thanksgiving (1982). Lawrence Taylor starred as a one-man Big Blue Wrecking Crew.
The Cowboys destroyed the Seahawks, 51-7, Thanksgiving 1980.
I guess Brian Sipe went moses malone in saying. I can beat the cowboys with my high school teammates.
Everson Walls? Dennis Thurman? Ummmmm ..2 guys I used to emulate
....lol ..why I played football
Oh well.
Sipe is still the best QB in Browns history
Dude, Im your biggest fan..but i really hope you get yourself something to eat on thxgiving
This is an over inflated story that wasn't a story back in 1982, any more than it is today. You even admitted yourself that Sipe misspoke. B.F.D. As a matter of fact, his intention seems pretty damn clear, enough so that I have to wonder of the Dallas secondary didn't understand what was meant when it was said. Gee, having to play behind those guys, I would think that they had a pretty damn good idea that the front line was good. It's not like they weren't seeing every single play.
But, no, you are right. This is an insightful, hard hitting story that needs to be told. It REALLY was the dumbest comment in NFLKL on Thanksgiving, including John Madden and his decade plus "turd-ucken" gag.....
After yesterday's performance, I miss the days when Dallas used to dominate on Thanksgiving.
Anyone can have a bad millennium. Dallas Cowboys 2000 to present.
1982... ah yes, back in the day when men were men, women appreciated it and football was football.
Clowns being Clowns!
You take way too long in setting up your videos. Less is More.
