Bette Davis with an "e" is the great actress. Betty Davis with a "y" is actually a funk singer, best known for her song "If I'm In Luck" and for being married to Jazz great Miles Davis at one time, for about a year, and being influential on his music during that year. Betty Davis, the singer, retired from music in 1979, and isn't remembered as much today, but she was controversial in the 1970s for singing too many sexual kinds of songs. This year, (2019) Betty Davis, the singer, came out of retirement to release her first new song in 40 years, called "A Little Bit Hot Tonight." So when speaking of the actress we should remember she spelled it with an "e," while the singer used a "y."

You got that right, Bette Davis had a lot of sass, in one movie, her character walks into a fancy mansion, she looks around and says to her companion "What a dump!"
“Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night.” - one of the great Bette Davis quotes (and one of the great movie quotes of all time) from "All About Eve" (1950). A perfect example of the type of woman she played in her movies.

As amazingly smart as you are, I'm surprised you don't know who Betty Davis is........ Beautiful actress from the old days. Eyes that you could stare into forever.......
Betty Davis was a Movie Star back when stars were true stars. She had one of the most famous feud in the history of Hollywood with actress Joan Crawford. Their fude was a legendary rivalry.
And she wasn't supposed to be a soloist at first. The line she sang was supposed to be sung by Pat Benatar (who performed at the American Music Awards that night) but had to go home and rest because she very pregnant at the time.
Hi India, Betty Davis was a legendary actor. This song was played over and over and over and over again in 1981. A time when life was so much fun. It spent 9 weeks at #1 on Billboards hot 100's... realdeal
Sassy is one way to put it. The line "She knows just what it takes to make a pro blush" is one of my favorite lines in all of music. "Pro" in this case means "prostitute." Bette Davis played a whole lot of outrageous, don't-take-shit-from-anyone characters. My favorite Bette Davis quote, from one of her movies, is "Fasten your seatbelts. Its going to be a *bumpy* night." Said right as the central conflict of the film comes to everyone's attention.
@@jamespasifull I shoulda remembered her...I'm fairly-versed in "Black and White" Cinema (lower your hackles SJW and "racial warriors." I'm speaking of B n W TV and movies mortards). One of my favorite periods in history. I've always liked the "look" and style women had then. Great stuff...
@@drew65sep My daughter's a real fan, to the point of buying up handwritten letters, & personal artefacts, previously owned by b&w movie stars, & even some original cine film of them in action, & at play!
@@jamespasifull that's a pretty cool hobby to have collecting personal effects. One REALLY gets to know how a person, who may be famous, actually acts and feels away from the spotlight, and it's a great "microcosm" of history during those times. My daughter likes that period as well. She's a senior art major in college and her favorite thing is the "nose art" on the warbirds of the Second World War on up through Vietnam (an interest of her Pap she was curious about). Lol, there was no shortage of "pin-up" girls on the aircraft that flew over Europe and the Pacific (an art medium and style I enjoy). I took some art classes while in college during the early eighties before necessities dictated that I take a full-time job, thinking I'd go back at some point. Lol, decades later here I am in my mid-fifties, retired, and chatting with a fellow "father," doting over our daughters...lol, great stuff though. I only know you through a short comment, but it's not hard to see that you're a proud Papa, and rightfully so. Lol, talk about a "pissed off" Mama bear being protective...try squaring up with a Papa over his daughter (oh, how I loved scaring the sht out of her first date. Lol, the poor kid wouldn't talk to me for months afterward). Anyway, thanks for the reply and sharing info about your kid. I'll keep a good thought for you, daughter, and the rest of your family. Be safe through this virus crap we're all dealing with. Apologies for coming back and "editing" my comment several times.
Kim Carnes sounds a whole lot like Rod Stewart. Bette Davis turned in a string of great performances long before she made All About Eve (1950). The Petrified Forest (1936), Jezebel (1938), The Letter (1940), Now, Voyager (1942) stand out even today. In fact one of the local broadcast channels were I live played The Letter just this last Monday night. Also watch Joan Crawford torment her in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962) -- "A former child star torments her paraplegic sister in their decaying Hollywood mansion." Look out for the dumbwaiter!
Thank you for reacting to this song, one of my favorites in my teens. I think it was my father who brought home a cassette with Kim Carnes .. He brought home much music from the US... I learn much reading the comments here, and I have seen many of the actors mentioned in movies even though I was born in 1970. Our national broadcaster had a thing with old movies back then ;)
The song was written by Jackie DeShannin and Donna Weiss. Jackie’s an accomplished writer but her most famous song was “What the World Needs Now is Love”, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. She sang “Put a little Love in Your Heart” which was a hit for her and later, for Annie Lennox and Al Green. Besides writing Bette Davis Eyes for Kim Carnes, she wrote When you Walk into a Room for The Searchers.
Kim Carnes had a lot of great songs. "Does it Make You Remember" "Divided Hearts" "Crazy in Love" Unfortunately not all of them got the attention they should have. She also does a good cover of "Love Hurts."
this song might be the most popular song by Kim Carnes, she was very popular in the 80s, one of her songs appeared on the movie "Flashdance", it was titled "I'll Be There Where The Heart Is"
Excellent choice, It won Kim the Grammy for Song of the Year in 1981. Love her raspy voice. It has a strange, seductive quality. I recommend "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" by Debby Boone from 1986.
Her remake of Smoky's "More Love" is an all time fav...Killer live version on Midnight Special..."Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer" w/Kenny Rogers is tight AF, too...
I'd love to see you do a reaction video to the the Bette Davis movie, "Now Vogayer". She plays a character that goes through a real emotional and physical transformation. Bette Davis was an Oscar winning actress from the 1940's. She had big expressive eyes. She was one of the only actress' of that time that was willing to look unattractive for a role. Acting back then was so fake, and affected, but she still managed to evoke real emotion. She was kind of the Meryl Streep of that era. I actually saw an old TMC special where Meryl Streep was talking about Bette Davis being an inspiration. Anyway, I enjoy your reaction videos, and I'd really love to see your reaction to "Now Vogayer."
The Greatest line in movie history..."Joan Crawford..you wouldent treat me like this if i wasent in a wheel chair....Betty Davis "But ya are Blanch Ya are in a wheel chair lol lol classic
Hello to all I have been listening to Kim Carne's seen the 80s she have a hard voice but soft too. Betty David's is an actress. Who play in a lot of old movies
Back in the day nearly wore the cassette out. Also a great video. Written by Jackie DeShanon one of 1st female R& R singer songwriters from the 1960s. Wrote amongst many others -What the World Needs Now is love sweet love.
Bette Davis was one of the best actresses of our time I recommend Of Human Bondage her first and one of her best performances. She had large almond shaped eyes that spoke louder than words def the inspiration for this song
In Bette Davis' earliest acting days, she was often cast as a beautiful, loving leading lady. As she got older, she started to develop a certain look and voice that made her more suitable for some shady characters which Bette fully embraced It was hard to describe her older eyes. Some say there were a bit evil looking wile others say they looked a bit mean etc . Of course in moves, her eyes were made up to enhance that look. BTW, Bette was sill alive when this song became a hit and she thanked Kim for making her part of modern pop culture.
Bette would stare into the camera and it was like she was looking into your soul. Millions were mesmerized by those eyes. She was still alive when this song was a big hit. When it won the Grammy Award she sent roses to the writers and Kim Carnes.
India, An early Bette Davis role was in "The Petrified Forest" with Leslie Howard and Humphrey Bogart. Kim Carnes was in the New Christy Minstrels, and she performed the final song in the soundtrack of "Vanshing Point", a 1971 movie with Barry Newman and Cleavon Little. In "Betty Davis Eyes," her voice is a bit raspy, due to some vocal damage, regarding which I have no information; but it is interesting to compare her voice in the two different numbers.
Bette Davis was a legendary Hollywood actress with a career spanning more than 50 years. She was known for her large eyes, half closed, but piercing. The kind of eyes that looks right through you and your reaction is I ain't messing with this lady. A very independent woman who stood her ground to all the Hollywood studio moguls (Keep in mind, this is the 30's and 40's before women's lib). She became friends with Kim Carnes after this song was a hit, and Kim gave her one of her gold record awards. Check out two of my favorite movies of hers, "The Letter" and "The Little Foxes". Those movies are great examples of the inspiration behind the song.
This song is about a woman who gets what she wants from her looks and ability to play the actress role without sacrificing much!! The Best Movie Bettie Davis was in besides what was mentioned IS!! Her Collaboration with Joan Crawford called "What Ever Happened To Baby Jane "!! That Movie Freaked Me Out when I seen it for the first time when I was only 6 years old!! India, I have a song that I think you might actually struggle to react to, because it's so calm, soothing and thought-provoking. It's called "Sailing," by Christopher Cross. It's a song about sailing, but it's also about a man finding some peace in a crazy world. Just a thought.

These vids bring back so much of my past! I truly dig this channel! The talents you haven’t heard! It is mind blowing for you, as it was for me in the 70’s listening to the 50’s tunes!
80's music videos were so freakin cool. I see now why I have some of the aesthetic I do today...my childhood taking this all in.
In the 80s Kim was one of so many good artists, sometimes I forget about her. She had quite a few good hits. Great reaction!
As amazingly smart as you are, I'm surprised you don't know who Betty Davis is........
Beautiful actress from the old days. Eyes that you could stare into forever.......
Bette Davis was one of the Biggest and BEST actresses of ALL TIME! Please look up Ms. Davis and check out her films.
Betty Davis was a Movie Star back when stars were true stars. She had one of the most famous feud in the history of Hollywood with actress Joan Crawford. Their fude was a legendary rivalry.
Kim Carnes was one of the acts in the video "We Are The World" along with Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen to name a few.
Betty Davis, arguably the first "pin-up" girl...and great actress.
Delightfullydemented65 the ORIGINAL pin up girl.
You both need to Google 'Mary Pickford!'
BD was good, but she wasn't the first pinup......by decades!
@@drew65sep
My daughter's a real fan, to the point of buying up handwritten letters, & personal artefacts, previously owned by b&w movie stars, & even some original cine film of them in action, & at play!
Kim Carnes is gold man. I am 32 and i discovered her music when i was like 17 or 18 and her voice just mesmerized me and been a fan since then.
Dark Victory was another great film
@@kaaytie84 Yep. My bad.
Thank you for reacting to this song, one of my favorites in my teens. I think it was my father who brought home a cassette with Kim Carnes .. He brought home much music from the US... I learn much reading the comments here, and I have seen many of the actors mentioned in movies even though I was born in 1970. Our national broadcaster had a thing with old movies back then ;)
"We've gotta find out who Bette Davis is". Oh, my dear... you are so young. Love ya, though!
THANK U INDIA U R FRESH BREATH OF AIR GREAT PLAYLIST
its funny ans sweet to see your reaction to all those 70;s and 80;s music I am 49 grew up on all this
Kim Carnes had a lot of great songs.
I love her voice. Betty Davis was a actress from the 20s 30s and 40s and maybe the 50s. She was in a movie called Baby jane
Amazing movie.
The Greatest line in movie history..."Joan Crawford..you wouldent treat me like this if i wasent in a wheel chair....Betty Davis "But ya are Blanch Ya are in a wheel chair lol lol classic
Hello to all
I have been listening to Kim Carne's seen the 80s she have a hard voice but soft too.
Betty Davis was a big time movie star from the 40's.
Bette Davis was one of the best actresses of our time I recommend Of Human Bondage her first and one of her best performances. She had large almond shaped eyes that spoke louder than words def the inspiration for this song
Madonna even references her in Vogue "Bette Davis, we love you".
In Bette Davis' earliest acting days, she was often cast as a beautiful, loving leading lady.
As she got older, she started to develop a certain look and voice that made her more suitable for some shady characters which Bette fully embraced
It was hard to describe her older eyes. Some say there were a bit evil looking wile others say they looked a bit mean etc . Of course in moves, her eyes were made up to enhance that look.
BTW, Bette was sill alive when this song became a hit and she thanked Kim for making her part of modern pop culture.
WHAT!!!!! a song, takes me back this one, tell you what India, all these great songs, making a new driving soundtrack now
Well thanks to react to this song! Fan over here... obviously haha
This song was number one back in 81 and Betty Davis was the top actress of her day!
Gwenyth Paltrow sang this song in the movie "Duets".
Bette would stare into the camera and it was like she was looking into your soul. Millions were mesmerized by those eyes. She was still alive when this song was a big hit. When it won the Grammy Award she sent roses to the writers and Kim Carnes.
India,
An early Bette Davis role was in "The Petrified Forest" with Leslie Howard and Humphrey Bogart.
She was a beautiful actress back in the day love this song so much ❤️
This song is about a woman who gets what she wants from her looks and ability to play the actress role without sacrificing much!! The Best Movie Bettie Davis was in besides what was mentioned IS!! Her Collaboration with Joan Crawford called "What Ever Happened To Baby Jane "!! That Movie Freaked Me Out when I seen it for the first time when I was only 6 years old!! OBTW, Despite Kim Carnes considered a One hit Wonder,She Had another Song that had a short play on the radio back then called "Draw Of The Cards "!! Great Song Worth Checking Out!!
The Synare electronic drums makes the rythm of that song more modern, cool sound.
Google Bette Davis "Now Voyager" you'll get it soon as you see her eyes.
And Jezebel. The dance scene has little dialect but Bette Davis said so much with her eyes.
One ofy favorites.
Bette Davis wrote letters to the songwriters & Carnes thanking them & when they won the Grammys for Song & Record of the Year she sent them flowers.
Love this song.
“We’ll have to find out who Bette Davis is?”. Like a knife in the heart. I’m so old. I might even be too old for this channel. LOL!!!
Love these song and entire album but these song stands out. It's my childhood memories and love her raspy voice like rod stewart. Many people don't like these song but these is one of my favorites from the 80s.
Bette Davis... her eyes knocked me out..still knock me out.The greatest of Hollywood's femme fatales of Golden Age Hollywood. Thx for posting, brought back some memries. now go check out a few movies...they hold up and they're free now. "oh, but...fasten your seat-belt. You're in for a bumby ride"
That's off mistaken identity album ____ great album____' Miss you tonight is my fav😎 by Kim
Yes!! Love this channel
This was another song that was played on R&B radio back in the day!!!
Famous Actress acadamey award winner...great movies with Bette Davis "fasten your seat belt, were in for a bumpy ride...."made the quote from timeless movie
" All About Eve"
I've always loved this song, and I love Bette Davis.
You have done Human League already....but check out their song "Human"
Betty DAVIS was a classic, one of the best all time actresses we ever had, she was one of those ladies you didn't dare to cross, and she had beautiful big eyes, you just see her eyes and you knew who she was, she played in romance and horror movies look up BABY JANE that was one of her classic movies.
Love your song choices. Awesome song
I love Betty Davis. Great song great artist.
India, I have a song that I think you might actually struggle to react to, because it's so calm, soothing and thought-provoking. It's called "Sailing," by Christopher Cross. It's a song about sailing, but it's also about a man finding some peace in a crazy world.
Just a thought.
