Glad you found the problem. Be careful with all your wires and the metallic gas tank. You know, fuel gasses and sparks can give you a headacke. Cheers !
Thank you pal. New to boating and no idea what I’m doing !! New fuel tank etc and didn’t realise the air vent on the dial needed opening. I did notice the fuel line bulb was vacuuming and kept releasing from the tank to let air in. Hope this was the problem why my Johnson seahorse 55 is intermittently going at top revs/speed. Thanks again.
Good video Tyler, not poo pooing your video or anything, just advice. If you run high octane, ethanol free fuel you'll find you have far less fuel issues, took me many years to figure out but glad I burn nothing but high octane premium fuel in all small engines I own. I know it is a bit more expensive, BUT, the benefits far outweigh the cost of the fuel in repair costs. On a good note and for those out there this is a good lesson about ethanol and how you can use it to clean fuel tanks. Add a 1/2 gallon of ethanol type gas and throw in your tank some ball bearings. Shake the crap out of your tank and let the bearings roll around and dump the fuel out, refilling with high octane fuel. The ethanol loosens the dirt, grime and rust and the bearings scrub off the rust leaving a shiny tank lining! Ethanol is terrible for small engines. Never used that fuel treatment, may have to try, but since I burn premium no ethanol fuel, haven't had a fuel/carb issue since.
Thanks for the video! Mine did that on the last morning of a 4 day weekend last summer, had no idea what the problem was. Going to check all the above and see what happens.
i run a 40horse super sea horse .have used it for last 20yrs. started bogging down n used sea foam.stated working right away .moisture n carb and tank.try it
bro all those battery cables RIGHT next to your tank which is seeping gas everywhere.. Build a separate tank area with a vent going out backwards! Now - thanks for the vid - stay safe
I have the same motor, but my problem is when the boat is at TopSpeed it just drops out in the fuel bulb will be super soft. If I hold the fuel bulb and keep pumping it. It runs great at TopSpeed. It also will run fine as long as I don’t get in it on the throttle, do you think it could be the gas tank because it’s a old metal one I put a new fuel bulb in line on it.
Geat Video - Well Done Avoid Ethanol fuel at all costs! 1. Older engines were never designed for ethanol fuel - it was not even available. 2. Ethanol can attack hoses and seals on older fuel systems., dissolve fuel hose and create a gummy residue. 3. Ethanol is hygroscopic = It absorbs actually absorbs water in the same way whisky mixes with water - gasoline actually separate from water making it possible to monitor drain water from fuel systems. 4. When I clean fuel tank that have used ethanol, I often notice the residue is a milky liquid - water contamination ???? 4. Galon for Galon it produces less power than gasoline.
Thanks man great tip I have a 6 hp Evinrude and it Boggs out when I accelerate and smoke come from the head not sure what the problem is but I will try what you done with yours all the best
I went through my fuel lines and actually found that it was snapped at some place pretty seriously and i could even hear when i pump the fuel. although the line was disconnected from the engine. I will replace it tomorrow and give it a try. Edit tomorrow with the results.
I have an 07 Yamaha 4 stroke 50 hpAt idle it's clean but anything between idle and wide open, it'll bog hard and shut off, or just run hard and jerky and won't gain speed, but if i keep It wide open for 15seconds or so it'll run 30 mph and just run a little rough. Any ideas? Just cleaned carbs.
I have a 92 150 mercury,, my problem is my motor will crank and run but when i put in gear, it will not take the gas an shut off,, it runs great on the hose, but under a load it bogs out and shuts off
@@slingblade530 Make sure ALL fuel lines are good and replace if needed. Also you can take line off exit of fuel pump and spin motor over and see what kind of flow is coming out.May need to rebuild fuel pump? Not to much to it to replace inside. Hope this helps
Hey Tyler, my name is John, I think I have a similar problem as yours and was wondering what you thought. I posted a few videos on my site so you can see and hear what my engine is doing. if you have a moment, please take a look and let me know what you think. Thx!
JB JB hey John did u Chang your spark plugs if not do so they might b fouled and if not check fuel line but if it’s smoking and popping its most likely a ignition problem
I should have mentioned that I did try that, that's the only thing I've done to it so far, that and I've also added a bunch of Seafoam. But the videos are all with the new spark plugs.
JB JB okay I would change the line for fuel and get a multi meter and check coil packs to make sure they are sending spark to the spark plugs and take fuel filter off dump it in a clear glass bowl and see if you got water in the fuel if so water will go to the bottom and fuel to the top
OK, my mechanical skills are very limited so I don't know if I would be able to check the coil packs to see if they are sending a spark, however, i think i can probably dump the fuel filter into a glass. One dumb question, where is the fuel filter on my engine and how do i remove it?
Bloody hell I'd be more worried about that rats nest you have around your fuel tank, if that goes up you will have more to worry about than the motor bogging down..
I had a stupid mistake. My boat has a 50 HP Evenrude and 9.9 Mercury with two metal 6 gallon tanks. I always fog engine, change low unit oil etc at end of season But I found I never use the second tank of gas in summer and end up using as weed killer So I picked the cleanest tank and then that problem started on both engines I just had replaced hose and fuel bulb Darn vent cap a 10 second fix solved it by opening The other tank had screw open Stupid embarrassing and real pain at dock Lesson learned
Are you fucking kidding a batyery and stray wires right next to a fucking fuel tank venting fumes and sparks if this is your boat your gonna die its the picture in the promo of your video
Glad you found the problem.

Travis Shepherd no problem

Thanks for the video. It fixed my problem too! I put an inline throw away filter in my supply line, before my priming bulb.
Do you see bubbles in your filter as your motor sucks up gas ?
bro all those battery cables RIGHT next to your tank which is seeping gas everywhere.. Build a separate tank area with a vent going out backwards! Now - thanks for the vid - stay safe
Dude awesome video man mine is doing same thing going to take your advice
My boat is doing the EXACT same thing. I will replace what you said and hopefully it fixes my problem.
My 94 Mariner 75 Hp doing the same things. Changed out fuel line, as you suggested, runs like a sewing machine. Thanks.
656trav so happy to read that. my puddle jumper left me stranded today. cant wait to fix tomorrow

I have same motor ... did u find a fix ?
How do you remove that fuel filter (2:49) - I can't twist mine off (won't budge!) and I'm afraid to force it as the housing is plastic.
It will come off .Not easy but lefty loosie. I though I was going to snap mine but it finally came off
I went through my fuel lines and actually found that it was snapped at some place pretty seriously and i could even hear when i pump the fuel. although the line was disconnected from the engine. I will replace it tomorrow and give it a try. Edit tomorrow with the results.
So, I replaced the lines and found a little gap.. and that was it :D It fixed the fuel issue, but not the spark issue I'm facing too :D
Thanks for the tips bro

I have a 70 hp evinrude with the same problem. How did you fix your outboard? watch it ua-cam.com/video/t4xVGxYDsh0/v-deo.html
Smae issues with mine and same exact motor on my 83 starcraft. One if my tank does it and one doesn't

Are you on tonight if you can you pm new to this boat need help
yeah i got the wal mart fuel line and primer package. i suspect it might be trash!
Battery and tank in same compartment, isnt that dangerous?
Joytubeification old school
Joytubeification but I haven't had a problem no sparks at all
Not really if your constantly unplugging and plugging stuff in sure but a battery like that and a well venting bildge wont ignite
Thanks very helpful
You have more wires than the space shuttle on top of the gas. That can't be safe.
It’s all been redone that’s what it looks Ike when it’s a fixer upper
My 85 evinrude 40hp does the same thing.
Never never never store fuel and battery together. Very big bang going to happen soooooon
