It’s great! My shed has been completed and it turned out nice looking and sturdy and it is way better than the sheds that many of my neighbors had put up. Of course, I'm pleased with the outcome and this Ryan’s ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans was extremely useful to me as a guide.

Just a suggestion Kris, in order to keep your stuff as clean as possible how about sealing the floor at least with water glass (sodium silicate) to keep down dust and maybe fabricate covers for you machine tools out of breathable material such as used for car covers. It's the same idea as for food processors and sewing machines so why not for lathes, mills etc? Love the new workshop, it's spaceous and now well lit and getting equipped with everything you need for your new business. Love the garden too.

Kris , i have a couple of lathes and a mill in my garage. It has cavity walls and suspended block/beam floor and therefore very dry inside. I got a lot of surface rust on all my machines the first year i got them over the winter period . i threw old bed sheets over the machines when not in use and it cured the problem of condensation from the air on that cold cast iron. I would strongly recommend doing this. Lathe beds just want to rust even though they are coated in oil

Exactly. When it has been quite cold for a while and then suddenly the temperature rises, everything in my shop gets very wet suddenly and drips start running off the mirror as well. If you don't want to heat it all the time ( I only do that when I'm having a break or work inside) then covering that lathe is a very good idea

Came across Kris accidentally recently and binge watched his hydro adventures. Subsequently watched the whole Roundhouse build and then the workshop build.
I have to say, this guy is a not only a workaholic and genius, but what an inspiration to anyone with a dream.
Listen to that "Ha Ha" when he spins the camera on the completed project .
I'd watch a weekly episode of you anytime. Some TV network needs to approach you quick.
I'm shocked you don't have over 1 mil Subs, but that's the reluctance of advertising we all appreciate.

Kind of silly if people say you're not truly off the grid if you're using standard household voltages. If you're not connected to a community power grid, then you're the definition of being off the grid, no matter what your household voltages are.
Edit: Noticed I misspelled truly as truely, lol. Had to fix it, he he he.

People have said another channel where the guy lives on a catamaran on a swing mooring wasn't off grid because he had internet via wifi to a friends wifi base station on the other side of the bay, the fact he lost internet every time a boat went past seem irrelevant to them. Sometimes I think people know what off grid is when they make these claims.

Yeah, people don't understand the definition of off-grid aparently. Voltages are just what electronics needs to work (properly) on, of course over simplified but imho a good analogy.

Something I learned many years ago, don't sweep if you want to keep an area free of dust. Sweeping tends to lift dust into the air which just settles elsewhere later.
Vacuum cleaners and mops are often a better way of getting somewhere clean.

Kris, you need to cut more length in those wires before you install the plug socket, you should also allow enough earth to connect to both the plug socket and the backbox, you will need some earth sleeving as well to cover the exposed parts of the earth. I can see the plug socket you have used will earth the backbox once it's screwed onto the wall, but while it's hanging out the backbox it will no longer be earthed.

A fly lead from the backbox to the socket (not plug) is no longer required in bs7671. I agree ofc with the rest of the comment tho

That is a beautiful lathe! looking forward to seeing it running! I would recommend giving yourself some room on the right side of the lathe to be able to pull the shafts out. At my job i've ran into that problem a fair few times. The solution was drill a hole in the wall, or move the 9 ton lathe that was bolted to the floor. We elected to drill the hole.

Hi Kris, long time watcher, but first time poster. A great trick to keep the dust down is to paint the floor with floor paint. I did this in at home and it has reduced the dust.

It’s good practice to leave around 6 inch of cable tails in the back of the socket and dress them in nicely. A lot easier to work with .Very short them tails at any time in the future something happens to the cable , you have a bit more to play with. Great vid . 👍🏻

Buddy, I'm an electrician in the states and you'll find that if you leave about 15cm of wire out of that box when you put the receptacle on it makes everything much easier on you. After you attach the wire just fold the excess it into the box. If you have to replace the receptacle later it makes it a lot easier.
