    Great tutorial. This is the live set explanation that no one else has done, and you have done it really well. Thanks!!!

    Great video again, as usual, Woody. Thank you. I'm looking at getting the YC61 (after months of deliberation and returning 2 stage keyboards that weren't right for me). The CK offers so much for the price point though and a tool, of any price, is only as good a its operator.

    Hi - and thanks for the greatreview. Just wondering if you've tried the mono out to a PA on the stereo sounds. In most cases this sounds terrible, so wondering whether Yamaha has a way around this.

    I bought this keyboard for when I don’t want to lug Stage 4. Very pleased. The Rhodes, the Wurlitzer and the Hammond are very fine and the pianos are passable too . I just want to mention that it is possible to alerted the fox for all parts in one go by pressing all the layer buttons in one go. Very pleased with the sounds. Though it is not a weighted keyboard and I have no experience with synth keys, I found myself simply playing it, after a few days. I can get feel

    Sounds great and is laid out very intelligently. Just enough synth functionality to make it quick and easy for a player to use ready-to-go sounds with some flexibility in customization.

      @@WoodyPianoShack I think Yamaha has done well in creating a very easy to use keyboard. I’ll be sticking to my MODX7 but it can be more daunting for the beginner.

    Great video and playing Woody👍
    How would you rate the CP piano sound? Saw another video you were playing a Howard Jones song No one is to blame. Can you get much dynamics from the 61 keyboard for playing piano/ ep’s?
    I live in Australia and these are not available till June maybe July.
    Thanks.

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  Рік тому

      i've not tried the ck61 but generally i can adapt and get decent dynamics on weighted or unweighted keys. easier to slip and hit bum notes on unweighted though!

    I played the CK61 in the store.... the color coding system made it very easy to figure out. I didn't need a quickstart, in order to navigate wherever I wanted. I didn't like the keys of the 61, though - not for $1000 anyway.

    Great video. I'm confused about the manual sliders and dials if they're meant to be specific to a particular layer/part. Say you set the dial for an effect at 50% for layer A and then switch to layer B and change the same dial to 75%. Now if you switch back to layer A, is the effect now suddenly 75% or does it recall 50%? If it's the latter, the dial in real life will still be pointing to 75% though? Hope that makes sense...

    Hey Woody. Great video as always. 😊 Do you think one need a ck61 if one has already a MODX in the house? Can we program the MODX that it sounds and behaves (?) like a CK? Or even a YC with the VCM Organ? And how much is the difference between CK and YC concerning the quality of the organ? Perhaps you can do an analytical comparison?

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  Рік тому +1

      well i don't have the yc any more, but the organ sounds much better, more organ models, more tweakability of the engine. if organ is super important maybe the yc, or nord, but if you¨re not too picky, ck got your back. you can buy libraries for the modx that give it excellent e-pianos, but only ck has hands-on drawbar controls.

    Great Video, as always. Sounds are great but the CK seems a bit plastics and flimsy. What is your impression on the build quality and on the Keybed?

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  Рік тому +2

      very much all plastic, but not flimsy, and I'm picky about that. keybed is solid on the 88.

    • @Gk2003m
      @Gk2003m Місяць тому

      I just got the 61 a couple weeks ago. At first I thought it felt like a toy, but I’ve quickly grown to appreciate it for what it is. The keybed is not meant to be tortured; keep that in mind, and it should hold up just fine. The great thing about this keybed is that the action is light! It encourages the right approach to things like the Clavinet. I pair this with a weighted 88 key controller at all times; that controller can take a bit more abuse.

  • @Gk2003m
    @Gk2003m Місяць тому

    This device is great. It has a few weaknesses: fast Leslie is not great, Hammond chorus #3 likewise is not great, and it lacks an aux out that would allow you to run it to a Leslie or emulator that could ameliorate those issues. The final weakness is that while it has three available Parts, hooking up two external keyboards does not allow you to access those parts separately on each board. That is, both external boards access the same Part.
    The Hammond related issues don’t matter too much in a band mix. And the workaround for the last issue is to connect an iPad, along with a USB hub and MIDI-USB router. This allows the third board to access a sound generator on the iPad (NUMA Player is great) - and/or use sounds from the third board itself via the CK’s audio input (to which the CK’s effects can be applied!)

    • @Gk2003m
      @Gk2003m Місяць тому

      A followup: one of the most useful features is the ability per Part to ignore particular midi CCs! I have a Live Set for Billy Joel’s “Just The Way You Are”. I’m using baritone sax #1 on the CK61’s keyboard. The external sound of course is the phased Rhodes, played on my 88 key controller. But there’s that ‘ahhhh’ vocal sound that is played sometimes. First off, the CK does not AFAIK allow range limitation. The range of the ‘ahhh’ should be no more than Bb to F#, so only a couple of them play at a time. So I set up ‘ahhh’ voices on my Alesis QS7.1, which does allow range limits.
      But how to get it to be off or on where needed? You can’t do it with CC07, which is channel volume - that ends up controlling overall volume on every device on that midi channel. So on the QS7.1 I assigned a pedal to CC11, which is Expression. And then I set the Parts on the CK61 to ignore Expression! I can now fade the ‘ahhh’ in and out as needed without affecting anything else.

    I bought a CK61 and it has the worst key action of any product I have ever owned.
    The keys feel as if there is a pressure hinge under each key. There is a key resistance initially and then the key resistance is overcome and the key goes down.
    When playing medium velocity broken chords in a ballad suddenly the key just barks at full volume.
    Then when playing staccato on non decaying sounds like trumpet, there is a key bounce / note retrigger.
    I have sent videos to Yamaha about this and waiting for an outcome.
    Yamaha are going to need to fix the key action on the CK61. Other forums are filling up with people complaining about the key action.

    • @toshivibe
      @toshivibe Рік тому +1

      I have it and have no issues with key action. It's feels like more or less standard synth action. I guess it's subjective.

    Your SECOND fifteen minutes - trying to figure our WHERE TO STORE THE MUSIC REST! it is w6" long and the $449 case will NOT hold it! HOW am I supposed to read music on a gig - this piece of plastic cost $99 and there is NO CASE ON THE MARKET that has a pocket large enough to carry it. Great keyboard, terrible aftermarket.

      Will it slide into the pocket on the back of the CK61 case (Yamaha SC-DE61). The pocket that is meant for the backpack straps?
