A Video-version of a Catholic POEM

This Catholic Filmmaking Breakdown is extra special because it showcases the fruits of one of Spirit Juice Studios’ unique opportunities. Elyse Hupp, an aspiring filmmaker, spent the summer participating in the Spirit Juice internship program and completed her “passion project”-a short film entitled “Holy Blessing.”
The passion project gives interns the opportunity to pitch an idea and use the resources, equipment, staff, and expertise of Spirit Juice Studios to bring their project to life in the production of their own film. Elyse decided to produce a video version of a Catholic poem, with b-roll to present the imagery in the words of the poem. Through the internship program and particularly her passion project, Elyse was able to get a true sense of everything that goes into the process of high-quality filmmaking and video production.
The greatest takeaway from Elyse’s experience was the necessity of advance planning when embarking on a shoot. She also learned the importance of shooting as much footage as possible, so that you have more options and material to work with when you begin to edit the piece. Elyse was grateful for the multiple rounds of editing from Spirit Juice staff that resulted in some tweaks and changes that ultimately made her piece more concise and compelling.
