The hosay celebration is held yearly in the Month of Muharram in Cedros Southwest Trinidad. This festival came to this island by our ancestors the indentured labourers in 1845 when they came from India. The tadjah or hosay is a replica of the tomb of Husayn ibn Ali the grandson of MUHAMMED WHO WAS SLAIN IN 680 CE. It is paraded throughout the streets of Bonasse and then offered into the sea at Sunset. It is enjoyed by all in this community.

Imam Hussain's commemoration is worldwide. Hosay is an example of that.

Hosay might come to trinidad from Indian Culture but the main Hosay is commemorated every year in Muharram in Karabla Iraq. Hosay or Ashura is the commemoration of martyrdom Of Imam Hussain (Prophet Muhammad's grandson and son of Ali a.s). Shia muslims commemorate it every year.
