  • Hosay Commemoration in Trinidad - St. James
Spent some time this year going to Hosay and visiting different families to get more information on Trinidad Hosay in particular, St. James Hosay.
Generally, Hosay lasts for ten days and is observed in accordance with the Islamic lunar calendar and in line with ten days of Ashura commemorated by Shia Muslims throughout the world.
Every year, Hosay is observed with a parade full of colorful tadjahs (as shown in the pictures) in commemoration of the martyrdom of Hussain (Hussein), the grandson of Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam, in the year 680 AD.
    More infomation:

    Tadjah :
Colorful replicator of Mausoleums of the tombs of Hussain and Hassan.
    Moons:
The half-moons (one red and one green) symbolize the deaths of both Hussain and his brother Hassan; red for the blood of Hussain that was shed at Karbala and green for the poisoning of Hassan, 11 years earlier.
Thanks to all the speakers for taking the time to speak to me and share their knowledge.
Jameel Bisnath - Bis Ali Yard, Secretary of the St. James/Cocorite Hosay Associstaion.
Chris Cartar - Whaite Moon Yard
    Darryl Merani - Panchaiti Yard
Special Thanks to Ijaz Dookwah, he too the time to talk to me and introduce me to the speakers and carried me around to the different yards.
This video will not be possible without him.
Thanks to Devashish Ramdath - / devashishramdath
For allowing me to use his great footage form Little Hosay Night.
Please visit his channel and show him some support.

beautiful video! thank you so much for the depth and honesty. As a Muslim only familiar with Sunni traditions, I think this is an incredible take on Karbala and a great way to unite all people in general (not only those bound by religion). Also the Tessa drumming is so interesting too. Much love from South Africa!

This is an amazing video and u were able to get some amazing shots. We need more guys like u to keep showing the young people of social media these traditions. And u don't go to Guhlam Hussain yard. But this year it was great to go on the road after two years. I tell you I drummed my heart out on that bass

In Islam we are only allowed to celebrate the two Eids. The Eid Ul Fitr and Eid Ul Adha ❤️

    • @zayed105
      @zayed105 Рік тому +1

In the Shia portion of muslims, in some countries they do hosay 30 days after Eid Ul Adha, in trinidad we call it kurbani but other places its qurbani

@@zayed105 the beliefs the shia have are not from islam. that doesnt mean when i see a shia i immediately call them a disbeliever. because to make takfir there are conditions in place. most shias are twelvers and they belive in the 12 imams who to them are better than the Prophets of Allah. this is clear kufr. secondly, they pray to Ali may Allah be pleased with him. they ask him for help and of course again this is not from Islam. there are many things shias believe in like a lot of them not all but a lot of them curse the companions may Allah be pleased with them all. how can a God fearing muslim curse the companions?
so it doesnt matter if the shias do it. it doesnt belong to islam.

@@weshouldsaveourselves6780 The sadness is the Muslims snooker themselves like this polemic statement. Only the creator knows, Perhaps such accusers and detractors are Muslim haters out to create mischief. Ignore them since they are astray - I refer to the last line of Sura Fatiha

What you said is made up story to make people belive you, I am here you are liar, Shia Worship Alone Allah almighty, Imam Ali is human and human is not worthy of Worship, And All The top Shia scholar around the globe have not allowed us to curse anyone, Our narration of Hadith are from companion of Prophet Muhammad saww then why will we curse them? But Shia don't believe first three Caliph as right full successor of Prophet saww because he never appointed them but Prophet Muhammad saww appointed Ali as successor and declare it at many occasions including Ghadeer, Hajj, Battel of Ohad etc..
I think you are from far far island because I am from Pakistan here half the sunni say Ya Ali Madad so are they kaffir? Lol First learn meaning of YA Ali madad? It's not asking help its meaning asking Allah to help in the name of Ali (Wasilah of Ali), All Powere alone belong to Allah but he can give to any human if He want? For example In Quran Allah say that Isah bin mariyum used to kick grave and dead becomes alive but Isa used word By Will of Allah I ask you to become Alive so Imam Ali was rightful person Allah can grant anything to anyone even Imam Ali although he is human, And Again you sick minded said we Think 12 Imam are higher in rank than Prophet? We Belive 12 Imam after Prophet so shut up, It's Prophet Muhammad saww whose hadith asked us to follow 12 Imam we don't do it by ourselves
