    Thanks for the detailed explanation, great work. I've been working on soft 9 ball break and liking it, 10 ball will be next. Been breaking hard for so long it's hard to dial it back and just do it controlled like this. I don't think this would have been possible back in the day of opponents loose racking you with those cheap plastic or wooden racks at every small tournament. Plus if your dog (2:29) is like mine it'll love the softer sound of break practice time. Mine no longer run to a different room and hide from it.

    Love it. They're talking about needing to drive 2 balls past side pockets while they're looking at 4 balls past it.

    My 2nd and 3rd racked balls keep coming up short from their respective side pockets. Why?

    Out of 25 breaks, I only pocketed a ball on 2 breaks. And if you discard the breaks I didn't hit them square, the percentage is still horrible. 9' GC table. Worn Simonis 860.

    • @TheBilliardCorner
      @TheBilliardCorner  4 роки тому +1

      Try hitting it as square as you can. This breaking technique only allows for small margin of error. I practiced this break for 2 days before I could get it consistent.

    Guys move the video to 0:55 and put it on the minimum video speed, then watch the break and how insanely symmetrical the balls pathways are, I must say that is the most visually beautiful break shot I have ever seen! For showing me this my friend you have my sub, because this is just beautiful!

    It works for 8-ball too. I was doing this the other day, but not soft (maybe I'm just a weak breaker, lol), and I was pocketing the two balls behind the head ball a lot into the two side pockets. I actually place the cue ball about 1/2 inch to the side from the head spot and aim straight at the head ball. I will have to try softer to see if I can better control the cue ball and still make the two balls in the side.

  • @mattmason1694
    @mattmason1694 4 роки тому +1

    Great vid thanks. I've never understood why the cue ball would bounce back off the rack so much with a hard break - a shockwave? I am even more surprised that you need top spin with this soft break!

    • @TheBilliardCorner
      @TheBilliardCorner  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah I was surprised too! I initially thought that putting slight draw would squat the cue ball in the center perfectly. However, when I did slight draw the two target balls wouldn’t head towards the side pocket.
      My understanding is that it has to do with Newton’s law where “for every action, there is an equal and opposite re-action”. Exactly what you’re saying, kind of like a shockwave after striking the rack.
      Thanks for the support Matt!

    • @nigelwebb5574
      @nigelwebb5574 4 роки тому +1

      The reason you need top spin is due to weight. If you rack the balls all touching it acts as one object. So therefore it weighs 10 times more than the cueball. So the cueball will just bounce back off the rack. so applied topspin prevents the cueball going back up the table.
