- North Rockland senior Katelyn Tuohy digs deep to capture her third straight Nike Cross Nationals girls title. She covered the 5 km course in 17:18.4.
Beavercreek's Taylor Ewert claims 2nd in 17:19.1 while Sydney Thorvaldson takes 3rd in 17:19.4.

Low 17s on a 5K with rolling hills in MISERABLE conditions, that is tough!
I forgot how this race went......I did not remember it being this intense. I loved how Katelyn reached out to help the girl who came in fourth and fell right near her. And we know after Katelyn moves to College how good that fourth place finisher gets in the next season or seasons.....

She was only about 85% for this race, I think she had been battling an illness, but that's Katelyn, never give up!
I keep watching this over and over. This may be a greater XC race than the 2022 NCAA D1 champs. KT knew that she had a target on her back and that there were at least three or four who could win if she made a mistake. She decided to go full gas early, and it turned out that she was running on fumes on the last hill when Ewert and Thorvaldson seemingly made up five or six seconds in a matter of a few tens of meters. To see Katelyn dig and find the gear, then clearly red line, at the finish, to someone who has been following her since she joined the Wolfpack, is shocking. But, a race like this reveals the champion. This is like, Aspiring Champion 101. All XC teams, boys and girls, should see this on video day. This is the quintessential cross video. So now Katelyn has at least two monumental cross championships in her videography.

She tried some new races and was probably burned out from the track and cross country seasons but she’ll come back stronger

Yeah, I wouldn’t say tough year. More like tough finish. Setting 4 NCAA records, plus winning 4 NCAA Championships isn’t what I think of as a “tough” year. Lol

They ran their hearts out....I don't remember women in cross country in the late 1970's to early 1980's ever collapsing at the finish line and crawling.
These girls should all be proud of themselves, and I hope they are.

Young girl she was exceptional. She became a young woman and her morphology changed. It is noticed in the last videos. We see it making bodybuilding when it is the opposite for a runner of 3 or 5 km. You just have to see the Kenyan and Etiopian. It happens to lots of young athletes who disappear after their puberty

We see a crowd of girls in ecstasy. Exquisite exhaustion. I guess this is what the men are afraid of. While a coach of my daughter's middle school softball team where she was the star, I learned a few things about adolescent female psychology. We can appreciate how special cross is in the realm of athletic endeavors, by bringing together in the forge of competition the aspiration, striving, and essence of the concept of 'team', and... champion.

You could tell Tuohy was not feeling strong on this day, based on her constant looking over her shoulder early on and pained expression at the end. But she had grit and toughed it out for the close finish, a mark of a champion, to be the best even when not feeling their best.

Watching women just killing them self's is just amazing. Life is so much more than just looking pretty and hoping for a free ride in life.. Kill each other on the Track and help each other after is what life is about.

They’re all awesome! It takes a big heart and guts to run like that, especially when it’s cold. I was a runner myself. I can run all day long on a hot weather. But cold it’s tough for me. Congrats to all ladies. And two thumbs up for Touhy.
I love how NXN is always a mud fest. It was like that when I was there in 2007 and 2008

I would understand the collapsing after a marathon but for a three mile run ?
effort makes the difference, you don't easily run 3 miles in 17 minutes lol. marathoners and runners that focus on distance in general wouldnt have a 3 mile time remotely this fast
Tuohy........ when you finish...and you vomit......then you know you gave it your all ! She dont even attempt ! Rather sad ! But at least in this race........she worked !
