  • Jon Pyzel explains the details of our new Twin Fin only version of the Mid Length Crisis, with some minor adjustments to the outline and rocker.
The Crisis Twin is a natural evolution from our Mid Length Crisis, which was typically ridden as a 2+1 set up.
We kept seeing people throwing twin keel fins into the forward boxes and realized that made the boards into a whole different thing, but the fin placement wasn’t optimal for control and performance. So eventually we built the Crisis Twin, a twin fin only version of the MLC with speed and flow as the main objectives.
The design was already well suited to being ridden as a twin, a semi-traditional, wide-point forward outline that is sleek and racey for fast, down-the-line drive, but full bodied enough to provide added stability and glide in weaker, slower waves, but we did make a few small tweaks to improve it, pulling in the nose outline a touch to add more curve for more carve, and also adding some nose rocker to free it up a bit in tighter pockets and late drops.
Easy paddling, responsive and loose, it has a beautiful foil from beaked nose to round tail, with a rolled deck that leaves the meat in the middle of the board to help with paddling and nicely thinned out rails for sensitivity and bite.
The outline is a long, clean curve, with no hip or wings, so it keeps a smooth flow on rail and through turns.
The rocker is a moderate, long, clean curve running from tip to tail without any radical changes or flip. It is designed for fast paddling and to easily generate speed, carry flow, and smooth turning at any speed.
The bottom contours are a mild vee with double concave built into it (the old school term is “Spiral Vee”). This basically means that the board has no problem tipping from rail to rail, making smooth transitions through turns an easy accomplishment for all levels of surfer.
The stock glassing is 4 bottom and 4+4 deck.
The bottom line is that the Crisis Twin is a fast paddling, fast surfing and super fun addition to our Velocity Project lineup. It might help you look at weaker, funky waves with a little more lust, and it will for sure let you have a blast at any long, lined up wave you can find!
We recommend you ride this board as short or as long as you want and wider than your daily driver. It works great as a little rip stick or a longer cruiser, whatever makes you happy.

That rocker is sooo sweet, good idea for a twin!

I am 5'8 75kg. I have a 6'0, it feels like a more good wave board if you aren't surfing Hawaii style waves. Wide point is far forward and tail is quite narrow so it needs big fins in weaker waves to get drive. I have been using BMT but they are still a bit small. I love Pyzel boards, I have a gremlin, phantom and ghost they all go amazing.

Thanks for the feedback. You are 100% right about bigger fins for drive and I have been using our Bobcat twin fin set myself.

Completely innocent question, but what will be the difference between this board and the wildcat other than having channel?
Like the board. ..both as matter of fact.

Hi-- The Wildcat is more towards a "performance" design. The Crisis is a mid-length style outline and has flatter nose rocker overall. Just basic thought is that the CT is more of a cruisey style board

Yet again these guys only shape for surfers up to 80kg, and then in good waves. All twins need a back box for a trailer fin if required (barrels on twins can be problematic). If you want more than 40 litres he's going up to 6'8" and so-on. This needs to be addressed. Plenty of bigger guys want litres but not heaps of length.

Pyzel makes performance boards for Hawaii-grade waves, nothing wrong with that. They‘ll make you a custom, too.

HI. When I am coming up with stock sizing for different models I have to go with kind of middle-of-the-road dimensions to make them best for largest section of surfers. We also make our most poplular designs in "XL" versions for larger/heavier surfers, but we only get limited rack space in shops so they are not going to have all the sizes we offer on hand in most places. If you are a smaller OR larger person you are going to have to order custom boards in order to get exactly what you want and we are happy to help make that happen for you. We build our boards in factories all around the world, so wherever you are you should be able to get a custom made and delivered to you pretty easily.
