I live in Italy and I swear by this app. I'm a college student so sometimes on a tight budget and this app makes me save a lot of money, the quantity of food is so huge that I tend to freeze the rest for the days to come.
Yep, my mother sells boxes sometimes when they have many leftovers and they get sold almost immediately I've been told the price is set so it always costs pretty much the same but the restaurant / shop owner is free to choose how much stuff to put in it
I used to work in a college cafeteria and at the end of the day there would be all this food that had to be discarded and remade the next day. The higher ups DEMANDED that all this food be thrown straight in the garbage but never gave a good reason. My boss thought that was absurd and would just let us take whatever we wanted or offer it to random kids that were walking past. As a college kid a random meal is basically a blessing.
I think for a lot of establishments, a concern is if someone were to get sick after eating the food and went back there to claim some sort of compensation. Usually by the time there’s leftover food it means that it’s very late in the day/the place has closed for the day already, which then means that the food is probably no longer as fresh as before. But personally I do find it very wasteful when I see all the food being thrown away :( And I also buy discounted sushi in the evening once in a while haha.
I worked at a small hospital and the night kitchen worker would pack up leftovers and give them to night shift people and when management found out they transferred her to day shift and acted like she was stealing the food that was going to be thrown in the trash anyway.
Our university literally has their own food pantry, I actually had classes with some students who wouldn't eat for a day or two because they couldn't afford it

In Italy, more supermarkets have created this section for food that is about to expire. Basically, you pay half of the price for things that expire in max 2 days. It's even better because you can pick what you like and take inspiration. I sometimes like to go there, choose some products and from that decide what to Cook with it the same day.
@@CarinaCoffeeThey do that in Australia also, mostly with meat, fruit & vegetables and dairy. I often buy up to 50% marked down foods that l can either freeze, cook and freeze or use within a day or two.

They're not even dry at all, you pop them in the microwave for a minute and they're as good as new, and you get 3 meals for less than 3€. Unbeatable.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but this app is cute if you want to help small bakeries and restaurants earn a bit more while you try discounted goods. Basically win win. But you're not helping food waste all that much with it. Most of the food waste comes from food production before it even reaches the stove/oven. Preparing food generates more waste than excess of it (since restaurants generally avoid having too much because it generates loss of profit through increased cost) Buffets are the absolute worst for food waste.
@@astronoteek1512 Grocery stores have the same problem buffets do. In order to be competitive they need large excess of food, and its usually premlade food which, again, produces majority of waste while its prepared.

Same 😀 I’ll pick up my order later today. Just for the fun of it since nothing looks healthy nearby. At least the one I order from has the potential to be a meal not the healthiest but better than just baked goods. I love TGTG, but unfortunately there's not a lot of restaurants and shops that offer healthier foods. A lot of the surplus is usually pastries, like here, and bread products. Great as an occasional treat, but not something I'd get every day :)
That's the unfortunate part about some areas. The only less than 5 miles away from is are mainly coffee shops and bakeries, but if I go further like 10 miles or less there's a lot more restaurants and stores with health options. I just don't like driving into the city for it. :/
Yeah, also it's not a cheap option to me as it can't beat the grocery store. Maybe it's cheap if you would be eating out/buying prepared food otherwise, but I can't afford that anyway, so it's of no use to me :(
I work at a store where i fill these evry afternoon and its so fun to do and just as an inside tip : stores with younger staff and smaller bussinesses tend to overfill them a bit cuz we dont want to throw any of it away
I work at a bakery that does this and donates a lot of food to food pantries and homeless shelters as well. Since most of it is sweets and we donate daily the people who collect for the homeless shelter often left stuff behind that they knew would end up in the trash, so doing too good to go as well allows even less food to go to waste ❤

Another tip for the app: Some restaurants want to stay hidden on the app. So if you walk into a restaurant, that is not shown on the app, look around if you find a sign with a link on it or something. Usually they do this, to get tgtg costumers that have already been to the restaurant.
Yep, been using this for months now and it's usually really helpful!! It really does depend on where you live, even for me in a big city centre there's not completely loads, but enough to suppliment the long-lasting stuff i buy on normal grocery runs, getting me fresh stuff, ready meals/snacks and inspiration for varied food i wouldn't have otherwise. I'd definitely recommend trying it, especially if you don't have allergies and don't rely too heavily on best-before dates to tell you if something's still good.

That's so genius! Saving food from being thrown out and they really give you so much. Is there a way in the app to inform them of allergies? Don't wanna order something random and then send someone to the hospital.
Most supermarkets in the Netherlands participate in TGTG! Most have surprise bags, which can contain anything, vegetarian bags, which are self-explanatory, and bread bags, which contain, you guessed it, bread. They're a great way to save money, explore new produce, and save food!
Hey Kylie, I'm a huge fan and I'm looking into becoming a dietitian myself. Can you do a video on where you went to school and any advice for people interested in majoring in this field. You're amazing BTW!
I’m from Australia and we have kinda something like this called Ozharvest. It was founded by Ronni Kahn and Ozharvest trucks go around to supermarkets, restaurants and cafes, hotels, retailers, airports, etc and they collect wasted fruits/veggies, meats, cooked meals, pre packed items, dried foods, baked sweets, dairy, eggs and drinks. Once they have collected them they deliver the foods to charities to help people in need of fresh food. According to a 2018 post made by Ozharvest they repurposed and rescued 180 tones of food a week from 3,000 food donors, then they delivered it directly to 1,300 charity agencies.
I didn’t want to write a whole short story so I am commenting on my first post anyways, when Ronni (the founder of Ozharvest) was younger she wasted tones of food. When she got older she lost her father after a car accident. Then when she got even older she started to host tones of parties and noticed how much food waste there was after. In 2004 she started up Ozharvest and it is still going today all over Australia.
Here in Switzerland, loads of grocery stores also offer these surprise bags through too good to go! Fruit and veggies that are easily still usable for days for a couple bucks is such a good deal!
I loooove too good to go. I'm Irish and it's so fab. The bakery ones are the best. I got one from a café that also sells organic veg and for €7 I got 3 small organic lettuces, an organic cucumber, loads of organic tenderstem broccoli and an organic cauliflower, as well as two massive pieces of foccacia, a liter of plant milk, and three pieces of goats milk gouda that were originally priced at €6-€7.50 each. Incredible value.
Companies are making money off of food they would’ve thrown away anyway. They could also supply this food to homeless shelters and survivor shelters as well.. but there’s no money in that. At least it didn’t go in the bin!
Ik there's SO many ppl in need hopefully in the future they'll set a program for the needy as well but the innovation 💖 I'm living 🤩 i would scream inside knowing so many restaurants throw away good food because they weren't able to sell it all that day😩 🤧 this is so exciting ‼️
I know in the states it's different but where i live there aren't any permanent shelter to donate it to, so it would just get thrown away At least like this people who are living in different conditions can buy a meal (often more) for the price of three water bottles
This is the perfect app for when you're having friends over for brunch. I order 2 from Tim Hortons and it saves me having to pick options + there's always a great variety ❤
I'm sooo happy seeing that too good to go gets attention! ♥️Although I have the app, I don't really use it because most of the offers are to far away or can only be purchased when I'm busy 😭 None the less it helps with surplus foods and I'm already actively rescuing food with the organization 'foodsharing' So thank you so much for giving attention to and sharing about saving food ♥️❤️😍🙏
I absolutely love this concept!! Thanks for sharing! I had no idea this was a thing. It's always bummed me out how much food restaurants throw away, so I'm happy this exists! Downloading it asap
I had never heard of this app. I just signed up and was pleasantly surprised that the choices range from 3 Italian restaurants, 1 Indian, 1 vegetarian and 2 bakeries, within walking distance from my place. More choices if I feel like driving. I will be using this app soon. Thanks for doing this video.
i love this app! there's this really nice pastry shop/bakery near where i live but the food is a bit expensive (think £4-5 per little pastry, idk if this is cheap though i have no sense of money 😭😭) but i got a bag of around 6 or 7 cakes and things for about £5 and they were still pretty good :D
We have an app like that in Norway too, but I don’t think I’ve used it for maybe 5 years by now. You choose the restaurant you want and then you either choose a mystery bag or you can choose what you want, it will say what they have as surplus that day so you can choose the specific things you want too.
Great idea! Sadly my area in PA, USA has nowhere that does it. Bummer! Hope more people catch on and it expands. Would love to do this to reduce waste.
My old work (a bakery) used to do those bags. They were 5 bucks and we would back basically… 30-50 bucks worth of bread, donuts, cream puffs, everything we couldn’t keep. It was wonderful
We have a similar app in my country but you can choose what you'll buy. Personally i think not choosing/knowing what you're getting ISNT helpful for food waste as ppl may get food they either can't eat for whatever health reason or simply bcs they don't like it. The food you get is usually in a bad condition (dry, stale, close to expiring) and was going to get thrown out anyways so letting ppl choose is the least you can do.
Apps like this are being more and more popular and I’m so happy about it. Sometimes if I have time before work I’ll pick up a box of assorted donuts from Tim’s for 6$ off Too Good To Go. 12 donuts for 6$, all because they only sell baked goods the DAY they were made
Deff be careful before eating! I have seen people upload to review or just try the app and end up with moldy or otherwise less than edible foods. Reducing food waste is great but not at the expense of your health 🩵 one youtube video that comes to mind is Andrew Lowes video on it!
This is genius!!! I’m so excited about this. It breaks my heart to know how much goes in the trash. Quick question: any of it ever stale??? I just downloaded. I’m excited. Good food at a discount with less waste?!? Win-win-win
i'm a german college student and i love too good to go so much. i get to have really affordable breakfasts, lunches, and dinners all at once for an amazing price. the only downside imo is that there's no option to select dietary restrictions 🤧 i'm vegetarian, and more often than not half of the bags consist of meaty things

What an amazing opportunity! Thank you for saving these incredible pastries, I would hate to see them thrown away.
And a lot of this you can freeze to enjoy later!
I saw this video at the beginning of 2023 and i love TGTG.
Thank you ❤
I wish I could do these kinds of things but my allergies just don't make it safe 😢
Everything looks so delicious 😋 😍
Do they give you an expiration date for the food and how long it’s been prepared?
It’s good for that day, and usually the day after.
AMAZING!! Wish we had this in my country
They dont have participating locations near me😢
Me neither 🥲
hope more stores participate because the only options i have within a 50 miles radius are coffee beans and coffee beans only
If you don't have dietary restrictions it's a good train to hop on.
I know in the states it's different but where i live there aren't any permanent shelter to donate it to, so it would just get thrown away
At least like this people who are living in different conditions can buy a meal (often more) for the price of three water bottles
I'm so happy they finally added USA locations, I remember when there was one location and in New York
So you're telling me you're gonna eat all those pastries
Ahihihihihihihi
I would
This is the perfect app for when you're having friends over for brunch.
I order 2 from Tim Hortons and it saves me having to pick options + there's always a great variety ❤
AMAZING DEAL!!!
This is so great! Fun way to try new food and limits food waste! Please try your best never waste food and help the environment! Xx
This is amazing!!!!!! Love this idea.
Watching you make a car to go over that lava was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen😂😂😂😂
In France, some supermarkets do it too so you can get meat, veggies and other stuff for much cheaper than normal groceries
I'm sooo happy seeing that too good to go gets attention! ♥️Although I have the app, I don't really use it because most of the offers are to far away or can only be purchased when I'm busy 😭
None the less it helps with surplus foods and I'm already actively rescuing food with the organization 'foodsharing'
So thank you so much for giving attention to and sharing about saving food ♥️❤️😍🙏
Fun fact, it was started in denmark in 2016, it’s quite a few european countries. Glad to see it finally reaching america 🤗
In love with the way she said T’gödt’go
This works very well in larger urban centres. Out in the sticks, not so much.
I absolutely love this concept!! Thanks for sharing! I had no idea this was a thing. It's always bummed me out how much food restaurants throw away, so I'm happy this exists! Downloading it asap
Its actually really good, i use it in wales and its a good deal with students.
I had never heard of this app. I just signed up and was pleasantly surprised that the choices range from 3 Italian restaurants, 1 Indian, 1 vegetarian and 2 bakeries, within walking distance from my place. More choices if I feel like driving. I will be using this app soon. Thanks for doing this video.
i love this app! there's this really nice pastry shop/bakery near where i live but the food is a bit expensive (think £4-5 per little pastry, idk if this is cheap though i have no sense of money 😭😭) but i got a bag of around 6 or 7 cakes and things for about £5 and they were still pretty good :D
love this app!!!
We have an app like that in Norway too, but I don’t think I’ve used it for maybe 5 years by now. You choose the restaurant you want and then you either choose a mystery bag or you can choose what you want, it will say what they have as surplus that day so you can choose the specific things you want too.
We need more like this snd minimize food waste
Great idea! Sadly my area in PA, USA has nowhere that does it. Bummer! Hope more people catch on and it expands. Would love to do this to reduce waste.
Can I say this woman is gorgeous
My old work (a bakery) used to do those bags. They were 5 bucks and we would back basically… 30-50 bucks worth of bread, donuts, cream puffs, everything we couldn’t keep. It was wonderful
Wow!!! I immediately went to this app (never heard of this before). So many options at a discount. Thanks for the tip!!!
Thanks for sharing. Good deal for people in big cities. Have to save wherever we can. Rent is out of control
Apps like this are being more and more popular and I’m so happy about it.
Sometimes if I have time before work I’ll pick up a box of assorted donuts from Tim’s for 6$ off Too Good To Go. 12 donuts for 6$, all because they only sell baked goods the DAY they were made
Never heard of this until today. Thank you for sharing!
This sounds like something that could seriously help people from low income environments, or homeless individuals.
Deff be careful before eating! I have seen people upload to review or just try the app and end up with moldy or otherwise less than edible foods. Reducing food waste is great but not at the expense of your health 🩵 one youtube video that comes to mind is Andrew Lowes video on it!
This is my first concern upon seeing this video
That brownie took me right back to the middle school cafeteria 🥲
I loved these!!!!! They helped me fill the gaps in my meal prepping back in college. You can freeze most pastries easily, or share with friends :)
Wow that is a great deal. Def going to check out that app. Thank you for your vids.
I love your hair all the time ❤
I'm saving this when the quarter starts up again, this sounds promising!!
I just ordered for pickup tomorrow, so excited!! Love this idea
thanks for teaching me about this! Found something similar in my country and I'll pick up some discount snacks this afternoon
I just placed my first order today!!! Super elated to see what I get. Thanks for sharing. ❤️ you freaking rock !!
