I'd really love to see the reverse of this! Let the North Korean come up with things they want to ask Americans and have the American answer. This is SO true! I've heard that the NK government spreads strange propaganda about westernized countries like the U.S. or U.K. This girl clarified that many people don't have as much trust in the government anymore, so I'm sure she realizes some of the information she had is false but it's hard to know everything when you've never met an American before.

It hurts really hearing this from them but I want to hear more. Honestly, from what she said. People back then from the previous rulers are truly loyal and they do not suffer, which means that North Korea seems prosperous back in the day but now, it seems like the people there are now just living in fear and doing what they can to survive.

    • @alexeirichards416

Oh yeah, for a couple decades after the war came to a stalemate North Korea was actually more prosperous and wealthy than the South. It took a while for the South to get on it's own two feet and become a major economy. Then the famines hit NK and the black markets there were they only reason the country didnt completely collapse, but they still havent fully recovered from that.

They were prosperous because their economy benefited tremendously from the Soviet Union. Once the Soviet Union collapsed and could no longer subsidize North Korea everything started to go downhill. This lead to a period of famine in the 90s. Personally if I had to choose between a totalitarian government with a high standard of living vs. a country with freedom that has a low standard of living I'd rather live in the country with freedom any time. Whatever prosperity they had was artificial. Living in North Korea would be the closest thing to hell on Earth.

I'd be remiss if I didn't comment on how nice the Korean girl was, let alone how beautiful I found her to be.
I was in the U.S. Army, and my first duty station after training was at Camp Carrol, Waegwan, from 1986 to 1987. I enjoyed my time in Korea, but being in the Army put a damper on what I was able to see. :-(
When I left, I had been learning Korean, but it was nowhere near how well Emily spoke it. I've lost most of it in the decades since I left, but I try to think in the little bit that I remember, when I can.

Both these ladies are SO wonderful, I hope they really do hang out and become good friends! It is heartbreaking how the North Korean people have to live, but also fascinating to hear that under the surface the North Korean people are perhaps not to loyal to the Kim family as many people assume. I hope that in the future they can be liberated peacefully and integrate themselves into the modern world.
Also I have to say that, as an American (I even live in her hometown!), I am so proud of how Emily represented us. She speaks Korean so well and has Korean mannerisms and etiquette down so well. And she was so kind, and respectful, and asked good questions that really told how the real people live. Great video!

This is what we need in life. I used Korean to talk to elderly patient & she was so happy 💕🌸. That was a great feeling !

I absolutely love this. I think it's so important for Americans to get to know people of other cultures so they can learn that there is really nothing special about Americans; that no matter what culture, people are people and are all basically good and want the same things out of life that we do. This was really refreshing to watch.

I love hearing from North Koreans who escaped that slavery prison camp. As an American, I love watching Americans and Koreans interacting and learning from each other. I want to see more of that, and I want to see more Americans and your regular South Koreans together. Perhaps a reaction video where an American and a South Korean reacts to American movies (pick the genre) versus Korean movies. It would be interesting to see how they react to each other while they're each reacting to the movies. Which style each prefers and why, and the shocks each has to the other's reactions.

This is a really interesting topic for a video. However the sound of their voices is a little quiet, especially in the introduction. Perhaps it might be worth subtitling what they say too. Maybe in the future the background music could be lowered and the voices raised in volume a bit.
