This video helped me fix my own wiper problem! The silver tab was actually bent outward too far past 90 degrees so the hook missed it completely. Some elbow grease, cursing, and hammering pushed it back into place. Thanks again for such a detailed and helpful video!
The down to earth video made me chuckle a few times "hillbilly way of doing things", but it was also a helpful video. Thanks for taking the time to video this in crap weather!
you sir, are my hero. I spent time researching this issue and saw the link you provided to this video. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to share this; I can't imagine having the patience to film this while fixing it as well. Your video is stellar and the step by step way you put it together is brilliant. Thanks much for sharing, can't thank you enough
chraged almost $300 to fic it. When it broke again we were not about to drop another $300. I am no mechanic and I fixed it in about 20 minutes thanks to this video. I also plan to write a nice letter to the dealer that hosed us.
Thank you!! I feel quite accomplished since I was able to follow your instructions and video. Took me about 20 minutes to correct this issue, and you saved me a trip to the local Firestone.
I am so gonna try this!! Its annoying having the wipers up. . And the people at the shop are trying to say its my "wiper motor" and they didnt even look at it..
I had the same problem with my 02 crown vic, I thought it was going have to be taken to a car place to be fix. Thanks for the video upload to help! I saw it was snowing.. and you still made this, Thanks!
I recently replaced the wiper motor also but since i have the right windshield wiper will unloosen and stop wiping but the driver one is working fine. Do you possibly have a solution?
any ideas on how to fix wipers that stop wherever they are when I shut them off? I think a better way of putting that is the auto-return isn't doing anything?
Does anyone know how to set the tension on your wiper arm? There is a spring under the arm itself and I remember way back as a youngun that they used to have a devise that you put under the wiper blade and it actually measured the downward tentions from the arm itself.
Just got to do this today on my 04 monte carlo ss, the other day half asleep I brushed it off and hit the wiper, it was froze which I didn't know until I heard it pop up so it mucked up the tab, today it decided to park in the up position. I got it fixed, put it all back together for it to decide it would do it again, most of the time it parks just fine, once in a while it goes back up. Hoping it'll hold until its warmer out, did it in -8 degrees, what a pain in the ass. Need to fine tune my tab I'm guessing, unless it decides to behave then I'll leave it. I'm just afraid of the tab breaking off and having to go through replacing that whole assembly, praying that doesn't happen.
I've actually been wondering how the park works on My Impala. It was driving me crazy lol. Pretty neat, but as usual, the more complicated you make something, the bigger chance for something to break. Now, I have to worry about this, too...
I haven't had that problem. You could always take the windshield wiper fuse out when it is dry but that sucks if it starts to rain. FROM A WEBSITE I GOOGLED THIS for starters. Why Windshield Wiper Blades Won’t Turn Off There is a possibility that the fuse in your car is malfunctioning. The fuse is the safety device that breaks the electric circuit if it exceeds the safe level. If your fuse blows then there will be no way to stop the electricity from reaching the windshield wipers. This will cause your wipers to constantly keep going. You will need to install a completely new fuse because there is no way to repair a blown fuse. If this does not stop your windshield wipers from going your park switch may be failing. This device is located in the wiper motor. When the park switch fails the car’s battery does not recognize that the car is off and not running. This is the reason a current is still sent to the wipers and they keep running. The replacement piece for this should cost about $80. In some cases the negative cable could have come loose at the post. You can easily tighten it and the wiper problem should be resolved. If any wires in the wiper system have become loose or have a bad connection, then your wipers will immediately react. You should examine the entire wiring system to make sure nothing is wrong.
Your problem is the wheel inside your wiper (blinker) switch. It's a no cost fix, but a little bit of a pain in the ass. you gotta tear apart your steering column, and take the base of your switch apart. It just splits in two. Kinda plugs in together. Two little screws hold it together. Very simple concept once you see it all. When it's apart, you'll see the wheels. Turn your switch to the off position, turn your car on and move the little wheel on the base of the switch ( the other piece still attached to the column that will still control your wipers) and make sure your wipers are off. Then reassemble.
Simply turn the key off or in a worse case scenario disconnect the battery while the wiper is in mid position, lower the hood and remove or reinstall the wiper arm as needed to avoid all the scratching and prying.
We are going to try this this weekend. I have been driving with my wipers in the up position for over a year now...very embarassing. The repair man wants to charge $480 to replace the park lever.
So I fix mines one time now they back to the middle again I open it n found put that the little thing that holds the wipers down is loose wat can I do help please :( !!!!!
Go to reply 52 in teh links I gave you. It may be possible to just replace the bracket from your local junkyard if you can find a way to lossen it from your car.

Is your fix still holding up? This happened to me before and I took it too a mechanic. I am going to fix it myself this time. Thanks!

Is there a simple way to synchronize your wind shield wipers and motor
I think what you are talking about is shown at 13:40 of the video. But I could be wrong.
Simply turn the key off or in a worse case scenario disconnect the battery while the wiper is in mid position, lower the hood and remove or reinstall the wiper arm as needed to avoid all the scratching and prying.
