Good tips, but I heard nothing specific to Ducati. This should be done with all bikes. I recently bought a 2012 848 EVO in pristine condition with just over 1000 miles. Great find, but it obviously was't ridden much and sat for over 6 months except for occasional starts. After only a few hundred miles, a fork seal started leaking. Had to send to Ohlins. Had to replace the rear tire too. It was still beefy but the contact spot where it sat got weak. It bubbled out about the same time as the leak. I don't regret my purchase, just beware of the used bikes (and cars) that weren't really used.
I have only bought used Ducati’s. Have owned 7 of them. And they have all been excellent bikes. A large majority of Duc owners are older men who take care of nice things so I have had very good luck. Most kids can’t afford these bikes so that’s something to watch for.
That's what I asume aswell with Ducati's. They are OFTEN taken more care of. I'm still pretty young, so I own a pretty old monster 600 (1993). But it's got low milage and seems to be taken care of, despite the oil filter leaking a tiny bit.
The one little thing that has kept me from buying one of these wonderful machines is the valve adjustment. I have a few friends that own more than one Ducati, one of them owns 5 of em… but none of these guys has ever had their valves adjusted. As a result, they end up, not riding the bike because they are overdue for that service. I was chatting with another motorcyclist that was millimeters away from buying a brand new Ducati. This was around 1994. This guy ended up buying a Yamaha 750 FZR or whatever it was called… The reason he Changed his mind in the closing room when signing papers just before buying the Ducati. The dealer said that he would do the first valve adjustment for only $4000. another sign of difficulty with the valves on Ducati’s I know a guy name Bill that worked at the same Yamaha dealership I worked at. Years past and he ended up working at a Ducati dealership. We bumped into each other at a bike gathering one night. He told me about a group of Ducati owners, just outside California, that hire him to fly from Pittsburgh PA out to San Francisco to service six Ducati’s that are privately owned.. they fly him and his tools first class round-trip, they rent a car for him, and he gets to stay at a gorgeous home on the coast. It is free to use the JetSki‘s. all expenses paid.. on top of that, they pay him to service these Ducati’s
I brought my 1st Ducati 2yrs ago.A 2012 848 with 6300km on clock. I've learned through my life that all ways go with gut instinst.Didn't even see the bike in person.the seller seemed good and honest, wasn't trying too hard to sell it....i got a good bike
thank you for taking the time to do this video. if I could give my opinion, I wasn't able to understand very well because of the background noise. but again thank you for what I did understand.
I have a chance at. 2001 Duc 600. The guy says he did all the maintenance himself and is an auto mechanic. He’s asking 1500.00 Is it worth taking a shot at it?
u say check this check that but how to check if something is wrong or not is the important thing how to check the steering ? how do i check the forks? also a almost all bikes have been dropped so that isn't really something to look for dropped bike doesn't really mean anything if the bike has a only minor scratches
yeah but how can you check them before purchasing the bike? Just got an 848 from a friend of mine, he assured me he did everything so I'm relaxed about it, but if you buy from an unknown seller you need a bit of luck I believe
capiarex got my 1098 last year and came with all maintenance records, had the 15,000 mile service done, with valve check, done, bike had around 16,900 miles on it. But having a complete maintenance record sold me on that particular bike
Awesome video. Thanks! I'm looking to buy a 2021 Ducati Monster 659 (LAMS), which only has 585km's on the Odometer. Any advice you can offer before I pull the trigger?
What specifically about mileage ? ..is a mid 2000s garage queen under 3k miles a good buy ?..which is better Low miles older bike or high miles newer bike? Thanks great vid
How to check over ANY motorcycle ever built, thought it might have been more about the engine ??? The Ducati needs TLC, advice about belt checks etc would be more appropriate for "Joe Public" !
I was wondering... I just retired and looking forward to using my Ducati 1198 more often. The bike has not been ridden very often in the last 5 years. The duc has only 11k but most of the miles were put on my several very long cross country rides. I was wondering what I should do to my bike to get it running strong again.
I can't hear you, the volume is so low. I'll just put in some earbuds! :-) And now that I can hear, what is a steering stop? Jesus Christ, guys! Couldn't you have done this when the workshop WASN'T being used??? LOL! No, sorry, I gave up after three minutes; it's just too noisy.
Why do his statements sound like questions? eg '' another thing to check is probably steering head bearings ? if they're worn out they'll be notchy ? '' apparently he's the expert so why is he asking the other bloke?
Its a characteristic of the Australian accent the technical name is a double dipthong basically the end of sentences slide up and it sounds like a question (I am Australian)
iam going to buy a used Ducati EVO 848. Please tell me How can I identify the body parts are original or duplicate......especially the front vaysor portion...please help me....
Sorry I am not a troll ....but is this Ducati inspection for people who ride horses? ....Does this only apply to Ducatis.. how do you check a Honda?... or even a KTM..? my god
Hopefully in the future this guy makes a video without the noise in the background. Yes we know the basics of the inspection process of a bike. Next time tell us something we would not know since it is a high end bike.
My yamaha's can take a pounding, pick right up and ride em home! Seems those Ducati's can't handle falling over, a motorcycle needs to handle more than that for me to ride it, happily!!
Duh, Cases. Get a fat guy to sit on it while you get out a flashlight and carefully inspect for hairline cracks between swing arm pivotal shift shaft. They used to leave the spider webs from forging them in the ferracci race bikes, to strengthen them. First year 999's had 996r rings in them to fix them from sucking oil out of crank and hydro locking heads. Of course don't expect perfect electronics, and most of the 916's came from balognia with 5 different shades of red. Different one each panel. First year 916's came with loose rear sprocket hub. Watch out for museum pieces, they may have original issues if not riden.
If you shoot video PLEASE eliminate the extra noise. I know it's a business and you're trying to do people a favor but it makes it near impossible to understand the person speaking. Good luck.
How many miles can I expect on a 1999 748r engine before rebuild? I ride daily...not your average Ducati owner who rides 50-100 mi/wk🤣 Heh bro I'm 3+m and 82kg! Look for hairline cracks on the tube frame.
Just use some common sense first. rule 1. Follow your heart then your balls will follow! Ok! Too much bla bla and not enough facts. If you plan to do an informative video aimed at guiding people on how make a an informed and good investment of a substantial amount of cash, shoot the video when the working day is over and work according a clearly laid out factual plan.3 minutes usually is all that is needed. This video is soul crunching to sit and watch. This video definitely did not offer any guidance on buying a duke. The topics touched here is basic at best. Besides this, how many replies to this video did you actually read after posting? Well, i dont see many replies from you to say the least proving you did and you value interaction with your viewers. This is my personal opinion. Do with it what you want. (no need to reply)

If your worried about how much a valve adjustment costs on a Ducati sport bike then you should not own one, same goes to anyone else!!
I brought my 1st Ducati 2yrs ago.A 2012 848 with 6300km on clock.

These checks go for any bike!
thank you for taking the time to do this video. if I could give my opinion, I wasn't able to understand very well because of the background noise. but again thank you for what I did understand.
Some might say first check the foot pegs, me, I'd go service history.
suereed service history means nothing if your bikes been crashed.
First thing you should check is whether the owner has all the keys (red, green, and black) and code card.
I appreciate you making this video, looking forward to seeing more videos
We need you in Melbourne fantastic man great interview
Thank you, George from the northern hemisphere.
I have a chance at. 2001 Duc 600. The guy says he did all the maintenance himself and is an auto mechanic. He’s asking 1500.00 Is it worth taking a shot at it?
Love the way Australian talks...good information
I think the point is more than just checking the obvious service history
Thanks to George for being so helpful.
Should redo this video wearing microphone, good content, just really hard to hear with the shop air compressor turning on a lot in the background
I like this guy.
Good questions.
Good answers and seems and honest chap. 👍

hmmm nothing on desmo valves?? probably the single most particular item on ducatis and key to motor lifespan
you mean the rockers?
Pillokun yea basically rocker arm flaking timing belt and valve adjustments, which I need to check on my 748.
yeah but how can you check them before purchasing the bike? Just got an 848 from a friend of mine, he assured me he did everything so I'm relaxed about it, but if you buy from an unknown seller you need a bit of luck I believe

"Stuff like that" seems to be the method of inspection in Australia.
GOOD JOB WHAT ABOUT ELECTRONIC ISUES AND RECALLS
How to check over ANY motorcycle ever built, thought it might have been more about the engine ??? The Ducati needs TLC, advice about belt checks etc would be more appropriate for "Joe Public" !
What about belt history.....?
24,000 km or 2 year, form replacement. its about 100us.
These guys are veterans of Ducati i take my bikes with them for routine maintainance. pricey but quality. :D
Good video but next time try to make it when there are no disturbing noises around the garage.
I was wondering... I just retired and looking forward to using my Ducati 1198 more often. The bike has not been ridden very often in the last 5 years. george sanchez timing belts, all fluids, possibly tires!
Buy a Honda 🤣
@@Hinchy1a I have one.
Run injector cleaner through it (as in ride it enough to run through a whole tank), timing belts, fluids, tires, FUEL FILTER is a big one
Fresh post guys - TY. :)
Two words for you: lapel microphone.
lol, agreed. Just use the cc button, it captured most of what he said when it wasn't clear. 3Y too late, but hopefully that helps.
And turn off the damn compressor
Volume?
what about a 2007 1098?
I can't hear you, the volume is so low. I'll just put in some earbuds! :-)
And now that I can hear, what is a steering stop?

Barry Francis lmao, my girlfriend talks like this sometimes. I just make noises in my head and nod, just to get her to the end.
up speak

Come on, checking forks and tires? I expected something specific. Thanks.
I need him to go over mine. I'm too far unfortunately.
Awesome video! Thank you much
i'm considering an '80 Indiana or a '90 Paso, do you have any tips for those?
My mate Phil stripped a 906paso on the side of the motorway spaghetti electrics gremlin
Which ducati model is that?
gabriel alejandro lopez girón think it's an 848 without the fairings
Old
Thanks for great video....

woo hoo, I'm in the 'light weight' range!

For all Ducati owners, important notice: carefully look under bike; if there is no oil under, there is no in machine neither 🤣
The only thing more expensive than a new Ducati is a used one.
Vero
Not really, there's an 08 for just under 8k locally. It's a sweet & well kept ride

91 octane?!..... does this guy have any idea what he's talking about?!
91 is regular in Australia. You NEVER use regular in a high performance motor like this.
Nah! I use Diesel in mine.
Smokes the opposition.
