    Beautiful design the facts just make me hesitant to risk buying one unless i have a good mechanic.

    I had the 7500 mile Desmo service performed on my 848 evo, 2 years ago. Had it done at my local Ducati shop. Turned out the valves were all still in spec. It cost me around 1500 for the whole service. Wish I had the courage to perform the service on my own, as the belts are due for a change. I have no problem turning wrenches on my car, but my bike is my baby, lol.

      You need to invest in some specialty tools for the 4V Duc’s. I was trained by a factory tech

      Its not a bad job when you have the cam lock tool. For me, taking all the cladding off, raising the tank and moving the rad forward, all just to gain access was a far bigger hassle than actually swapping the belts and tightening to spec.
      Its a good feeling getting it done on your own

    I went through the same, biught it on ebay and the person that was saling the bike wasn't very transparent nor honest! The worst part is finding someone qualified that can or will work on it.

    Can you do a video on adjusting the valves?

    • @emppowersportsandmarine6270

      I plan to make a video of a valve adjustment at some point. The heads had to go to a machine shop and were damaged by UPS. We found this client a used motor and he decided to proceed with the project himself. We plan to service the 900SS/SP and Alazzurra 650 at some point and my personal 916/996SPS is due for a 12k

    Despite it’s touchy engine, i love my 748R 00‘ just for it‘s mean sound. Cough’s and hollers as if it is about to throw up 😂
    Nice video - you know your stuff! Cheers!

    Thank you for this. Looking at a 2001 996 tomorrow. 17.9k mi on it. Red, five spoke silver frame. $9k asking. You helped me with what to look for. I subscribed in case I come home on it, might need to pick your brain later! Happy New Year from Tampa!

    Beautiful, but the way the Italians designed these bikes, when tiny things go wrong it causes catastrophic consequences... still even that can't stop you wanting one!

      That is all classic vehicles, I have my Ford 351 for u Bronco being rebuilt but a well known (local shop, which is swamped so asked not to be mentioned) and a BBC 468 give them next. Both of my USA motors have problems, just like my Italians. The trick is to find the right guy, to correct those problems and you will have a golden motor. People like what they like, and just need to find that “guy” to fix them.

    I have a 94 monster 900.. it has a broken cylinder bolt on the front cylinder. I gave been thinking about swapping motors with a 900SS. I was wondering what the difference is between the standard m900 and the 900SS motors.

    Do you offer phone consultations? A coworker is the original owner of a 2001 996S EU and he's offering to sell it (hasn't rode it in 3 years, garage kept) I'd appreciate gleaning any specific info/advice from you on how and what to inspect on the bike to determine a fair price and understand what maintenance actions will be required.

    Great review. Does the 748 have the same issue with rockers? Looking for a modded bike with the issues improved, as opposed to a stock bike as I actually plan to ride it. If you have any worthy 998s or 916s worth a look, please feel free to send me a link. Thanks again for your video.

    • @emppowersportsandmarine6270
      @emppowersportsandmarine6270  10 місяців тому

      Yes, all Desmo Quattro’s are effected with the flaking rocker issue. These bikes being the 851/888/916/996/748. I prefer stock bikes with some miles, which have been sorted or known issues. That stated, I built my personal bikes 15-20 years ago and most of the aftermarket performance parts are now hens teeth so a modded bike, which was built right and not ridden to hard would be preferable. I do not have any available at the moment, but am planning to re-open the shop just outside of Asheville NC next fall.

      @@Rgh71fish anything over 20,000 miles on a sport bike is considered high mileage. That stated, these are classic motorcycles now so mileage may vary. Side note, deleting your comment was an accident, apologies.

    • @emppowersportsandmarine6270
      @emppowersportsandmarine6270  Рік тому

      This bike was a cluster fu$k and the owner ended up junking it. Most will have these issues and are worth sorting. Not a worrier, just know what goes wrong with them and want to give those interested in them a heads up on what they can expect. Thus started, 1/2 of these bikes are sorted by now
