Yeah, I was upset at first, but the condition is super nice, it's hard to be upset. The next video, probably upload tomorrow will show it broken down in greater detail.
@@The_Casual_Collector Even if it's in very good shape for 170$ it's still kinda annoying that they cannot get a simple job done... But you are happy and that's what matters !!
I used to own an M954 in 30.06 that I purchased from a fellow who was originally from Paraguay and brought it with him when he moved to Canada. The only thing I did was having it drilled and tapped for scope mounts. She loved 150 grain jhp, deer not so much.
Looks like a good rifle all the same, but always frustrating when you don't get what you payed for. Touch base with them and hopefully they work something out so you're happy.
I'd be willing to gamble on buying from them (even considering all the negatives) if they didn't have such an archaic ordering system which doesn't provide a lot of consumer protection. At least you got a decent rifle.
Well you woke me up to what can happen! I just quite literally started collecting. I would be quite upset if i paid to have e a hand select rifle and not get it!?! I would be calling them strait away! Damn
Yeah, but it certainly is in really good shape, so it was hard for me to be upset with it. On the plus side it's another 30-60 variant. Recently I did pick up a Colombian Model 1950 that was numbers matching, so now I have two different South American 30-06 mausers, which is cool.
@@The_Casual_Collector Yea i have a VZ24 built in 1926 that my grandfather took off a german solder during the war. Its what got me started, just recently into milsurp collecting. Casual hello.. You know that rifle looks like its in good shape.. that stock and a good scrubbing with some DAWN soap will clean up well. Did you say the numbers were matching or not ? How was the bore? Sorry you didn't get the 1950 M. I am gonna order one this week a 1950 M and we will see what i get.. i do like the turn down bolt and its in 30-06. Lets see what it looks like under the wood. Looks like George in shipping is taking the bolt out and the packing is getting better. Cant wait to see the part 2 of this one !

@@The_Casual_Collector Ya i am going to order one on Monday.. we will see what i get. the condition was OK 30-06 gotta use the PPU M1 Garand ammo in that i guess. gonna be a few week till i get it back. More than likely they never had the 1950 to begin with. Never pay for "hand select". They will lie to you, for the price, it's part of collecting. Looks good
Yes, to some degree, but there is really only small info repeated across all forums. The problem is I have no way to verify that info. I think the safest thing to do is not shoot the modern over pressure 30-06 rounds and just start by checking headspace and then re-check every few hundred rounds or so. If it has a soft receiver there should be headspace creep. There just isn’t much "verified" info on them unfortunately from what I've been able to dig up.
You can do one of two things. 1 Say I have learned a lesson and send it back. 2. I'll keep the sow's ear and make the best silk purse the freakin world has ever seen.
I have not known of anyone getting anything decent from Hunter's Lodge. I had to call the Sheriff to get them to send what I ordered. I would not do business with them.
@@Will_ONeill I needed to know this as well, but from everything I read it is not an option (someone chime in if I'm wrong). I would make the drive across four states if that were the case...a little stop off in TN as I head to the CMP store sounds like a fun road trip.
I wish I could have, but they must have stopped that long before I started collecting. I did drive by one time, it's definitely not open to the public, lol.
You assume he was cheated. The ad says "brazilian", which is what he got. Let's say the Colombian 1950's they had were all dog-eared, mis-matched, cracked wood, parts missing 170 buck rifles. Even "hand select" from such a pile will be pretty lousy. Instead, he got a decent shape, pretty much complete example of what was advertised. Is that really being cheated?
@@ludditeneaderthalI get your point, but he specifically talked to someone at the company and told him he wanted a matching Columbian M1950. At the very least, the company should, one would think, call him to inform him that he was not getting what he asked for. The M954s were not of the same quality as the M1950.
I learned a long time ago, it’s better to pay a little more and get a complete rifle bs not getting all the parts and having not only pay for them but find them… sorry you had to deal with the wrong rifle…
That is actually what I do, depending on the rifle, some I will only buy complete like an M1 Garand or an SKS, but others like the old mausers, I do enjoy tinkering with to some degree.
True, the consolation is that it's in really nice shape...that being said I did just buy a Colombian Model 1950 Mauser on Proxibid. I should get it in a week or two and I'll do an unboxing on it.
Awesome ! You specifically asked for a model 1950 and payed for it, and you got a model 954 !! Thanks a lot hunters lodge ;)

Some times I think they do this hoping you throw your hands up in the air and say, "oh what the hell... I'll keep it."
Lol, I don't know, that may be true
Barrel is threaded for grenade launcher or flash suppressor and has a cap to protect the threads.
I was thinking of remembering my 8mm to 30-06 but this might be the way to go for me
