I have a cousin that was a mechanic for almost 50 years before retiring and bought EVERYTHNG at Napa. The one thing I was disappointed about with Napa is the a/c (brand new) compressor he installed lasted 26 months. He replaced it (out of warranty) and I traded the vehicle in for a newer one shortly thereafter. After retiring, I started using a mechanic close to where I live and when my alternator went out, they told me I could provide the part with one exception, do "not" buy it from Autozone. Wouldn't have, regardless if she said to do so.
Well, I will tell you this much, Advanced wanted to sell me some Cv axels, and I researched the brand and the only reviews on them were 0*... I went to Autozone and checked up on the Duralast Gold and the reviews were all good, so... Duralast also sold me a pretty good voltage regulator for my alternator.
I buy parts depending on my needs and time. Sometimes i buy for autozone and advanced since they are very close to me. Also, i buy some from rockauto, some parts are cheaper and no issues and some might not be so great! important parts and hard to reach I like to buy OEM. It all depends on your needs and money
Hey bundy I finally finished up with the valve job, did both cylinder heads! Cleaned valves, polished them and change the valve seals, re-installed valves and rocker arms torque everything 2 spec! Also got the oil pan off and cleaned the pick oil pick up with super clean and hot water real nice! Going to be buying the lithium grease soon for the head bolts!! And toyota bond for oil pan as you said! Also changing the cam seals next and putting back cam gears on both heads before I place them back onto block! So far going good cleaned both intake runners and got new gaskets for water passage and intake and all. Just got back from AutoZone in Price, Utah. Found myself in an argument with Ben. Went in for a warranty on a toggle switch that malfunctioned. This was the third toggle switch I bought that malfunctioned. The one employee was going to exchange the bad toggle switch a higher amp toggle switch that was the same price ($8.39). Then Ben said he wasn't going to cover the warranty because I had been in there before and accused me of doing something to the toggle switches, asked me what have I been doing to the toggle switches. I responded back with I haven't been doing anything, then said it's the switch. It was obvious It was the switch. Then Marty Forrest jumped in there and said I was hitting the switch with my foot. Though it was obvious that it was the switch. Ben said I can't come back to AutoZone, threatened to call the cops on me. Went across the street to O'REILLY'S, purchased a toggle switch, heater is working again.

The only time I go to one of those places is to dump drained oil & buy light bulb. None of them carries OEM-grade parts and are mainly made in China. Few people pay attention to the country of origin. I get my parts from either online vendors (AcuraPartsForLess, Acurapartswarehouse, Acurapartsnow, Bernardi Acura parts, OEMAcuraParts, etc... some are run by the same company while others are dealers' parts department selling parts online) or a dealer that gives me deals. Yes, they are $$$ but I am not installing some cheap China parts on my Acura. Yes, on eBay I see a lot of counterfeit parts (almost all of them are made in China). Some of them even claim OEM, and have stickers similar to OEM (HONDA). However, they are easily recognizable, as they use distinct font on the labels. All genuine Honda parts also come with country of origin stamped (USA, JAPAN, CANADA, MEXICO & VIETNAM). Amazon tends to be expensive (about the same $$$ as the OEM or even higher).
My best commercial account is with AutoZone. They treat me well, delivery is fast and they stand behind the parts and me. Orielly has been a huge disappointment and the local mom and pop store went out of business during COVID.
I have an O'Reilly's and an Autozone within two blocks walk of me...that's important. I'll check both online and go to the one that has the best of what I want. But I've got a Car Quest a short drive away, and I'll check them too when I can. Between the three, they have enough well-known and respected parts lines that I haven't needed to go to the Napa much further away. But I think Napa is better for buying specialized tools for specific jobs. And then there is Rockauto, which I'll order from when I'm planning ahead for a major job.
I've got defective parts from all of them. I got rotors for a silverado recently that at least 1 of the 2 were warped out of the box but they replaced them both no questions asked and then it was fine. I've got a lot of bad electrical components and sensors from advance and auto zone. So none are perfect.
Never had a problem AutoZone or O'Reilly's but I've been through six slave cylinder.. Master cylinder for 86 Chevy truck clutch that been defective..... Trying napa tomorrow
It honestly all depends on what Im buying. I’ve heard from people that they get a faulty starter/alternator off of the shelf. I honestly think some of that falls on you as the consumer. AutoZone is always my first choice and whenever Im buying an alternator or starter I have them test it right then and there before I even pay for it. You have to do your own due diligence. Parts get damaged in transit to the store or just get dropped and something comes loose. Always test those components before purchasing. I had to buy a timing belt tensioner for a J35 and AutoZone didnt have any quality brands available and I wouldnt go cheap on an important part like that. So I went to O’Reilly’s to get a GATES Brand Tensioner, it was twice as much as all the other brands that both stores offered so for me it was a no brainer. I’ve always bought all my parts from AutoZone but theres always 1 or 2 things you must go to a competing store for. Whenever I buy alternators I get the Gold, not the remanufactured ones. The brand new ones out the box. They’ve always worked and one of them I installed about 3 years ago and is still going strong
I had an Auto Zone alternator blow out my headlights out of the box. Luckily that was the only damage. They didn't have another one and had to drive fifty miles to another store for a replacement.
Yeah, lots of the bad rap comes from people buying the budget grade remanufactured stuff. That’s for flippers and the desperate. I buy the best stuff from autozone and don’t have bad experiences. I get funny looks from the parts guys because they almost never sell a $200 alternator-just the $65 ones.
In Montana Napa and O Rileys has the highest prices. Probably the highest quality also. Followed by Car quest and autozone. Batteries from autozone are great as is their oil filters. If I had to choose 1, it would be napa because their stuff is top quality, and a lot is American made, so you pay for it.
@@7KingCobra7 bs lots of Napa stuff is including oil and air filters along with a lot of engine parts. But what part store does have all made in USA ??? None of them
as a shop owner in Akron Ohio Oreillys is the best for me, they seem to take care of the pro guys more, I was a big napa guy for a long time(over 35 years) recently made them a past memory, it could be just my local store but they would not honor warranties and they are selling some crap parts I do not like Autozone just because of the things they did to good parts makers like Johnson controls (interstate batteries), yes we will sell your stuff but you have to make it cheap so now an interstate battery is no better than a duralast, and timkin bearing, they told them we will sell your parts but we they need to be made in china
Can confirm as an Oreillys employee. These commercial/shop workers are our main priority. These guys are buying parts daily if not weekly. And as a delivery associate it’s super nice to be able to talk to them and have a laugh sometimes.
yep first call has to meet the professional cusomter needs with in guide lines. They even will do labor claims for parts that go bad. They will send a driver to pick up all cores and returns. makes life easier.
FYI R/T ADVANCE AUTO PARTS: they are pulling out of California. ADVANCE brought out the Pep Boys in Covina and El Monte about two years ago and they will be closing permanently by March of this year, along with the others, not too far behind them. NAPA is the old days used to be way better than everybody but now they’re just a slightly above O’Reilly’s and a lot more above Autozone .
Hey bundy when I get to takeing off the oil pan and expose the crankshaft after I guess I take off the baffle is it ok to clean the bottom end I guess that's the piston rods and crankshaft. Can I clean it with just brake parts cleaner 🤔 all of that and whats the best way to clean the oil pick up tube also? I'm almost there got all the bolts cracked but that darn exhaust that covers that oil pan is a bit**.. if u know what I mean cuz the nuts are rusted down there so yeah lmk what u think and the best way to get all that done.
The thing I like about napa/AZ/O's, is that it's down the road. If I need something and/or I need to return something, it's right there. No repackaging and mailing it back.
For battery i only go to autozone because of the warranty on the duralast gold and because they do last ! But any other parts i go to NAPA, better premium quality parts
My preference in order is Auto Zone, Napa, Advanced Auto, O’Reilly. I put Auto Zone first because I’ve had good luck with their parts and tools and their staff is generally pretty friendly. Napa second because of quality but in my area the employees don’t seem to have the first clue about anything, Advanced third because of their staff, O’Reilly last because of very rude staff. Only reason I go to O’Reilly is my friend works there he is the only one I’ll deal with. And they have good tools too. I know the experiences are based on area and certain stores. O’Reilly and Advanced are closest to me but I’ll happily go to the other end of town for Auto Zone or Napa. I’m a professional mechanic at a dealership so that’s where I source most of my parts as we can get parts for any brand from any store or other dealerships. I always tell them to get me Auto Zone or Auto Plus stuff. Auto Plus has a lot of name brands.
If I need a part then and there, I head down to either O or AZ and let them bend me over for nearly double for a part this is usually Chinese. But it’s close and I can finish the job. If I’m planning a job, it’s rock auto 99% of the time. Occasionally Amazon or Walmart.
Auto Zone and NAPA brake pads seem to just fit, Advanced I always seem to need to file the ears down to get them to fit. NAPA pads seem to last the longest in the same price range. I avoid O'Reilly's due to rude, clueless staff.
I was a big Autozone fan for years but if i can buy the same part for cheaper im going to. For example a Battery. I can get one for $100 cheaper at walmart, and the oil is cheaper at walmart. If i can buy a set of front rotors for $120 instead of $112 for one rotor then im going to buy online
Very true, but keep in mind, different auto parts brand's have better quality than others. I would take a Denso or Hitachi Ignition Coil over an AZ coil any day!
Between autozone and oreillys, autozone offers better rewards, but they're parts are generally the same quality. It's just who has their parts available that particulat day, just my $0.02. :)
I love to mess with Auto Zone love to through a list of correct part numbers on the counter watch them stand there trying to debate putting it in the computer then wait a month and walk in and look at me and tell them did you learn anything new today
75% of the time I normally buy OEM parts online. for "emergence" or "unforseen" events, I'll take Autozone 1st, Napa 2nd, Oreillys 3rd. Advance/Carquest last.
NAPA sucks. Sucked for at least 20 years. People been claiming NAPA sense forever they have higher quality parts I don't believe and never will sense they sold me 3 bad brake calipers in a row.Went to Autozone I didn't have any problems out of them. I think people think sense NAPA cost more it must be better quality. I trust parts more from Autozone, O'reilly, Advanced Auto parts or parts from Amazon,Walmart,Ebay or even Aliexpress more. Heck I'd trust parts more from Pull A Part than NAPA.
A old school, experienced parts guy is worth his weight in gold. I'd rather deal with the older, experienced guys at Napa than some 18yr old kid at the Zone thats never heard of a Chevy K5 and has no clue what I'm talking about. Sure, the older guys at Napa are a tad salty sometimes, but if youre a busy shop owner who would you rather deal with if you have questions or installation problems?. 18yr old Kyle is friendly and all, thats great but he doesnt know dick about working in a shop
Napa was the only one with enough sense and experience not to sell me a crappy reman transmission with a terrible warranty whereas you must have a high dollar trans shop charge you to check out thier faulty trans before you can make a claim.
All considerations depends upon local business culture, and with the culture itself. There are NO dependable, reliable auto parts stores in Southern Oregon since the quality of worker is abysmal. Neither the clerk nor manager give a zuck about potential bad parts. In SoOregon, Autozone and NAPA are the worst of the worst.
As a do it yourself guy mostly, I have had to return stuff from all of them, Rock Auto is the worst IMHO, purchase a brake master cylinder from them, which is critical and it is leaking after a couple months, and I did not buy the cheap one.
They're all the same. It just comes down to who has the best price. I had more than one case, over the years where I've bought parts from one store, had issues later and chose another store to get the "BETTER" quality part. Paid more for it, and discovered I got the same exact part, just a later production date.Spoke to a fellow who was a District manager for one of the "Better Quality" parts stores and he told me that a lot of the parts they all sale only come from a very small group of producers. So, you can go to one store, get the part for $20-30 less, with a lifetime warranty. Or, you can spend more money and buy the same part, but only get a 90day - 5 year warranty... Let your pocket decide.
Yes! If you have time... I have had great success with Amazon also! I did buy 2 A/C blower modules from Ebay for 100 each! This is for a home A/c unit. The parts stores wanted 1200-1500 for the complete motor assembly which included motor and module! Thats just for one! You have to be careful though, some parts have to be programmed, before you can use them.
@@charlesbrown8008 Hate to break it to you but, twice: once with an AC blower motor(Discount Auto to Napa change on my Dodge Ram), and 2nd with a Water Pump(Orielly to Napa on Ford Bronco) and I was holding the same part, made in the same factory, just a different year date stamped on the parts. Difference was Napa had either a 90day or 1 yr warranty, Discount had a Lifetime warranty and I paid at least twice as much for the Napa part. Then got conformation of parts source from friend I helped coach Little league with, who was the district manager for the Napa stores in the area.
I go to autozone or Advance Auto or even quick odds and ends, but factory approved parts or chemical NAPA is #1. NAPA usually has even specialize 3m products. When Mopar didn't have my belt for my car, NAPA had the Mopar approved water pump in stock. We also needed the Mopar 3m adhesive and they had it ready the next morning.
Advance's new exclusionary dei policies ensure that I will never buy from this company again. Maybe they didn't hear what the consumer told Bud Lite, Harley Davidson, or Tractor Supply... They chose poorly.
Oreilly and Napa have the same suspension and sensors made by Monroe mevotech and standard that is why you see almost the same quality you said your a Napa care center Oreilly has the same thing called certified instead of Oreilly painting your shop looking like a Napa store they don’t do that because they want you to show off your shop name because you are promoting your shop same nationwide warranty for your customers
Autozone is good for common things with no questions about your car. NAPA has slight educated people but, their hours suck. They close too early. O'Reilly's is the best...people and hours.
I have to return a vacuum pump today to NAPA. It lasted only months. Let's see how it goes. Why can't anyone provide the pulley on the pump? I looked into six different mnfrs! All six are separated. Is it the same one or two making for everyone? It's a real bitch to get the pulley on there. I freeze the pump for a few days and heat the pulley just before installing. Then, still have to press it on after its started well. It's a V-belt. Serpentine is available but, not for my truck.
when you need the part put the truck back on the road, all matter is who has the part in stock, if i can wait rockauto is way to go. Autozone has good brake pad lol
Agree with brake pads and replace old ones with the same each time, take back the old ones and you will get your money back... FREE PADS! I always get their best brake pads when I change them for the first time on a new vehicle. It will cost more upfront but will generally last longer because it is better quality BUT I know that going forward I will replace them at no cost. 🎉🎉🎉
Just started off lying for no reason there is no way you got 4 bad starters matter of fact you didn’t get 4 of anything from Autozone and they all didn’t work sounds like you were changing the wrong part atleast be 100 dude come on
No they don't. AZ and AA are bottom of the barrel in my opinion. I would rather shop at O'Reilly's, why, better customer service, better selection and higher quality parts. You go into an Autozone and the 17 year old covered in zits is going to ask you for year, make and model when you ask for 14 inch wiper blades or 2 feet of 1/2 inch coolant hose.
@@bundysgarage it's the complete opposite to for me where am I at and every part I get from O'Reilly's specially their fuel pumps I always have to take it off and and take it back I never have to worry about that with AutoZone or advanced I don't shop at O'Reilly's Auto farts
@@bundysgarageas an autozoner myself we need to know because different wiper blades fit differently on a vehicle. it’s not always the same size for every vehicle. If you don’t know the year make and model then you shouldn’t own a car
@silentagony1019 too funny. I know that agony. But most auto guys already. Know the size wiper blade they need. The point is autozoner, when asking for easy stuff like wiper blades, coolant hose, or fuses, most kids at AZ want a year make model when us car guys already know what we are looking for.
If you’re working on old stuff….ask for the older employee. No offense to the younger generation, but they are only computer literate….unable to handle problem solving 101. And….if you’re not sure why online parts are so cheap, it’s because they don’t have the building, the employees, or the costs of running the stores. Buy local when possible, and save the online for odd stuff they don’t have or can’t get easy.
I just bought O'Reilly's platinum AGM battery ($250+tax). Put it my truck, and the battery was down to 25%. Took it straight back to O Riley's and they would not exchange it. They offered to charge it for me if I wanted to wait in the store for an hr or more. They even said I could borrow their tools to get it out and bring it into the store for them. Never again! O'Reilly's will never get another dime from me!
Oreilly’s battery/alternator tester is wrong on my cars half the time. Finally started using my own multimeter to figure it out and started buying $100 batteries from Walmart.
@bundysgarage tried to get orange brake grease Permatex. 1/4 wits argued and fought purple is the same as orange. And 3 trips later got it from NAPA. What a waste. Also corporate agreed with them.
@bundysgarage counter people don't know the difference between orange and purple. Then argue, then cry because I called him am idiot and Corporate backed it up. Phuck No Reileys
Autozone always takes back a part that doesnt work. No questions asked. Never have they once even questioned why the part is brought back. Thats far better than Oreilly
I bought parts from them before the company claims they are high quality parts but they are of the poorest quality I've then just stuck with AutoZone or O'Reilly's they have the best lifetime warranties can't go wrong with that

Where are you in MT? I'm in Helena
Nothings made in America anymore. Go back to your NAPA and take a look at some boxes for a starter or a alternator, not made in America.
Basically NONE of Napas stuff is made in USA lol

I just bought a brand new power steering pump that makes NOISE even after bleeding it correctly. Probably gonna go back and try and return it
From napa
But its a duralast brand. Goo figure lol
Having a good warehouse system helps as well!
You do know you can find alot of this parts on rock auto or car parts or even ebay or amazon for cheaper
@@riqhteall made in China
@@RJ42997it’s made In china regardless
You shouldn't have to have luck with parts.
If I need a part then and there, I head down to either O or AZ and let them bend me over for nearly double for a part this is usually Chinese. But it’s close and I can finish the job. If I’m planning a job, it’s rock auto 99% of the time. Occasionally Amazon or Walmart.
I shop all over amazon, rock auto, and the part stores
The dollar store has the best deals.

The dumpster usually have the best deals $0.00
@bundysgarage True if I had the money I would. But I live on a strict budget and can't afford quality parts
Never had any problems with any parts from O'Reilly's given that I'm dedicated.
Yeah I’ve never had any problems with O’Reilly’s either, that’s why I’m a die hard fan of theirs.
I’m fan of Auto Zone. Had bad experiences with Oreilly. Stop shopping at Oreilly for 2 years now even they’re just 3 blocks from my home.
Advance is best overall. They cater to mechanics with the speed perks program whereas the others cater to diy. Why is advance not even on your list?
They are afraid of the south. And The Middle East democracy
75% of the time I normally buy OEM parts online. for "emergence" or "unforseen" events, I'll take Autozone 1st, Napa 2nd, Oreillys 3rd. Advance/Carquest last.
1st OE 2nd rockauto.com 3rd O'reilly 4th NAPA 5th Advance 6th Pep Boys 7th a HOMELESS DUDE 8th Autozone
Autozone duradontlast is junk
I try to stick with o Reilly but you could not go wrong with Napa their parts are always on call
Warranty doesnt sell me. Its the right part, perfect fit and funtion. Warranty generally means its cheap. And usually the fit and quality Are issues
I'm Checker Auto Parts old 🤣
Napa was the only one with enough sense and experience not to sell me a crappy reman transmission with a terrible warranty whereas you must have a high dollar trans shop charge you to check out thier faulty trans before you can make a claim.
You have to be careful though, some parts have to be programmed, before you can use them.
you are qrong napa has better unquestioned warrantys and sell better parts made by oem manufactered factorys with napa branding being the only change
Napa has way better customer service. Will make custom lines if they don't sell a part
@@sategllib2191 not sure what custom lines are you're refering to.
Oreilly is open later every day.
Advance's new exclusionary dei policies ensure that I will never buy from this company again.
Maybe they didn't hear what the consumer told Bud Lite, Harley Davidson, or Tractor Supply...
They chose poorly.
Napa always was an will always be the best
Oreilly and Napa have the same suspension and sensors made by Monroe mevotech and standard that is why you see almost the same quality you said your a Napa care center Oreilly has the same thing called certified instead of Oreilly painting your shop looking like a Napa store they don’t do that because they want you to show off your shop name because you are promoting your shop same nationwide warranty for your customers
Depends who hads my OE parts, they all carry same products, O'Reilly's lil cheaper
What's the difference between auto parts and O'reilly's? Don't take it all from the same
Autozone is good for common things with no questions about your car.

Napa is a joke. Mom & Pop stores with no inventory and the stores are filthy.
Still getting car quest parts through advanced for the daily driver. I've never needed to use a warranty. Napa is for tractors.
Just started off lying for no reason there is no way you got 4 bad starters matter of fact you didn’t get 4 of anything from Autozone and they all didn’t work sounds like you were changing the wrong part atleast be 100 dude come on
O'Reilly's SUCKS! My first experience with them was horrible. I like NAPA,
Advance and AutoZone have quality parts. O'Reilly's has very poor quality parts
@@bundysgarage I prefer Rockauto if I don't mind waiting a week for parts or Napa if I need them right away.
Right!!!
NAPA
Napa hands down
If you buy autozone you WILL be stranded. I'm literally on the side of the road on my 2nd alternator from them. AZ is absolutely the worst
Also always look at the date on the battery before buying the battery.
@@bundysgarage Yeah, the battery was 5 months old. Lesson's learned! Next time I'm bringing my multimeter also. Lol
The same thing happens at autozone as well and it’s common. This is coming from an autozoner themselves
Oreilly’s battery/alternator tester is wrong on my cars half the time. Finally started using my own multimeter to figure it out and started buying $100 batteries from Walmart.
