Hi guys, wait until you see this attic that we inspected and later performed work. It had more things wrong with it that contributed to more energy loss, comfort problems, and frozen pipe headaches than just about any attic that I've ever seen before. Come along and take a look! Andy
We had most of these problems in our attic. No water pipes though. I would hire you in an instant if I lived there. Little by little, we are making these improvements to our attic here in Tennessee.
Haha! Yes Bubba was definitely there. It almost looked as if the home was flipped. The duct system wasn't more than 10 years old -- I don't think. And I was stunned by how poorly it had been put together. The improvement in comfort and energy efficiency that this homeowner saw from our attic upgrades there was stunning. Andy
Yes..the attic floor was extremely leaky. The homeowner said that he never had snow on his roof and when it was cold his furnace never shut off. It's not hard to see why!
Yes and yes. I'll add a link for the youtube short blower door test that we did here. The reduction was around 36% I think for the whole attic. The homeowner sent me a snap shot of their Dec energy bill and we lowered his gas usage (a FAR better metric than gas bill because gas prices fluctuate) by 46! AND that was with Nov/ Dec weather being colder this year than last year AND with him upper his thermostat settings from 66 degrees to 70 degrees. It was an incredibly effective upgrade. Oh man....not something to brag about, but my attic is/was orders of magnitude worse than this. - 22" at the highest point (between top of 'floor' joists to bottom of ridge beam) - Rockwool style insulation, compressed down to 1" in many areas from decades of Raccoon damage - no soffit vents and soffit area completely inaccessible from inside due to shallow roof pitch - poor air sealing to living space below - a gas furnace and associated air handling unit/plenums/ductwork installed right over literal Raccoon feces and damaged insulation by some clown-show of a contractor in the mid 1990's - leaking, crumbling, flexible air ducts that were never installed properly due to lack of room to even crawl around up there Sorry, just had to vent a little.....I still have nightmares of fixing all these issues. Furnace had to be completely removed from the attic and the house switched over to radiant heat $$$$😭
Ahhh man I hear ya that sounds rough. At least in this attic we did have room to move around in you're right. As soon as you have duct systems in attics you've usually got some bad issues (until they're fixed properly!) Glad to hear that you got your issues fixed...! Thanks for commenting. Andy

That's great to hear! It's always rewarding to fix those attic issues, no matter how slowly it happens.
Great video!! Looks like Bubba was hired once again to help another homeowner with their home issues. Bubba strikes again!!

Your videos are unbelievably sourceful ! Thank you .
I am so glad that you enjoy them!
That attic sucked all the air from the house.
Probably so much there was none left for the chimney!

Wish you lived closer, I would hire you in an instant!

Did you happen to do a before and after blower door? Any update from the homeowner on the change in their energy bills and comfort?
