River Tay. Dunkeld and Birnham Trout Permit. - A total waste of money

- What is advertised as a trout fishery is actually a largely inancessible stretch of water between two salmon beats. If the water hadn't been so low, practially none of it would be fishable.
There's about a miles walk to the jubilee bridge, the start of the upper part of the beat, and I'm guessing that most people don't make the effort and stick to the tiny stretch in town. If you were thinking of trying your hand here, I would advise against it.
It seems to be getting harder to find good trout water on The Tay. I used to fish The Braan years ago but the main issue there was parking and access. Farther up river there was some nutter who used to threaten anglers with extreme violence. I'm not sure if the cops found the time to investigate or if they were too busy with more important stuff like chasing people on Twitter for miss-gendering. 😁
I fished the Braan years ago when I was forced, quite against my will to spend a week on a caravan site. It was full of salmon parr and tiny little trout. There were a few decent fish below the road bridge where it met the tay, but the bailiffs had no sense of humour about it at all.
@@thetattooedangler i spent most of my childhood fishing off that caravan park, seen a few salmon come off that stretch and also caught a good few decent sized trout up at the hermitage falls, but like you said it’s full of small parr and trout.

Well, if you go to the Taybank Hotel like I did, you will get one. £6.50 a go!
@@Graham-1888 I was fucking tempted mate. I had an hour to kill when i'd finished it, but I walked to the train station and sat on my tod rather than pay that again. it was a good pint, but not that good.
Had the same experience there…. 🤯 Made a retreat further up A9 into Pitlochry to get some lunch them spent another 6hrs on the Tummel, £10 ticket online from Pitlochry Angling Club, great day had fishing for trout and will certainly be back there. Really do enjoy your videos 👍

@@thetattooedangler Booking done online, simple and a decent map shows stretch of river to fish.. Pitlochry Angling Club has a good detailed website, also spoke with a club member who was very helpful and willing to help a couple of non-members… 👍

Hi pal,used to be free fishing in the olden days IE in the 1970’s when I fished at Newtyle for the Salmon,cheers.
Thought about trying this spot myself mate but went down for a look and thought against it, seems I made the right choice! Very annoying when angling clubs advertise a stretch as a trout beat but they’re not suitable, or even worse don’t have any trout present! Cheers, Niall
Aye, I would steer well clear of it. I saw maybe two fish rise, probably silver, but the water is so deep and fast that its bloody dangerous to wade out. theres no way that trout live in that stretch.

My pal has a lodge at Erigmore in Birnam and I was excited about fishing that beat but as you say it’s not worth the money and I spent more time working out where you couldn’t fish on the map from where you could .
aye, those big Xs dont help. do they go all the way to the bridge, or can you fish the pool below it? its a load of old shite. the tummel at pitlochry is a much better deal, and only 20 minutes further up the road

Doesn't look like an easy stretch to fish for trout, far more suitable for a 15' Salmon set up. £12 and the beat map "looks like it was drawn by an inmate with crayons "😂😂
Honestly chris, it tells you nothing at all, not even how to get to the damn place. i suspect it was done on purpose. they had the nerve to email me and remind me that I had to fill out a catch return.
