Russ Tamblyn is one of the main reasons why I can never put War of the Gargantuas over Frankenstein conquers the world. Nick Adams had such a a strong presence in Frankenstein and whenever him and kumi were together it felt they just wanted to stick each other's tongues down their throats. Those two had such great chemistry together. In Gargantuas Russ is radiating both 'I'm gay' and 'I don't care' vibes all over the place. I swear a wooden board would have been more enthralling to watch. The human characters may seem superficial sometimes but a great cast does help make a good Kaiju film into a great Kaiju film. It's one of the reasons why Godzilla vs Gigan is so loved. That one has one of the best human cast in the series.
Frankly, de-sequelfying it was for the best. There are details that don't add up when they're considered sequels. Kumi Mizuno doesn't play the same character she did in the last one, if you need a red flag for what to expect from an analysis.
@@ZaGorudan Yeah I always thought that was odd but sequel world building wasn't too tight and common back then. Maybe that's one of the reasons Honda wasn't too happy with the film
Honnestly perfer the US Dub, but Gargantuas isnt the Only Toho Monster Movie to have Alternate dubs. Son of G, G vs the Sea Monster, DAM have different Dubs
"The Words Get Stuck in my Throat" is, unfortunately, present in every version of the movie.
AYOOOO
Beginning to wonder what an actual Toho Frankenstein movie would look like - one with the actual doctor
Its a shame since the original us cut is actually the best version of the film

I'm glad I still own the old Classic Media DVD.
I love that original dub since I grew up with it. Would've been neat if they used that dub team with the original story of Frankenstein though

The US dub showed up on the Svengoolie show this year.

How would like take a remake of a cheap rerun movie.
The new American version is much better than the original export dub.
For sure. iirc they make some much needed cuts for pacing reasons too.
War of the English Dubs.
Russ Tamblyn reportedly hated working on this movie.
It shows! He later admitted he was only doing it because he had a brief interest in being in weird foreign movies but it quickly wore out.
He looks like He doesn't want to be there at all
And everyone returned the favor. US producer Henry G. Saperstein called him a "Royal pain in the ass".
He was reluctantly phoning in just performance. Probably upset because he could only get work over sea
