My heart says Polaroid (preferably a vintage SLR680) for a select number of photos but for everyday use the choice goes to the SQ6 (price and color science). I hope that the current Polaroid can improve their film to match the film of the Polaroid from before 2008 but I’m happy that we still can use our Polaroid cameras from the past.
I like al polaroid photos more .. they have this 80/90s vibe .. but the film is so expensive
Thanks for the video! Is it correct, that you had the flash turned on for the outdoor pictures?
The Sq6 is probably my favourite instant camera
Wow, of all the instant photography camera comparisons, these are the BEST I've found yet. Really really good work!
Thankyou much :):)
Agree with you
true
Great review!! Thanks
Great side by side comparison thank you very much 👌
There’s also double exposure option on Polaroid Now. Just click twice on timer button to activate it.
Excellent video. I have pics from the 60's on my album. My dad had a Polaroid that you'd press the button and then pull the pic from the side of the camera. It wasn't automatic extraction. Then in the 70's he bought a similar to these but it had a brightness rotating button and flash was to be inserted on the top and it was in 5 per unit disposable. I just ordered the I Type on amazon same day along with 2 films, one B&W and another Colored.
the one he had in the 70's sounds like the Polaroid Land Camera 1000, and yeah the iType Onestep 2 and also the 'Now' are both great options from my experience
Very interesting, many of the differences you mentioned are because of ISO 600 (Polaroid) vs ISO 800 film (Instax)
Excellent, balanced review.
Really useful video. My parents bought me the Polaroid Now as a present and the only thing i'm concerned about is the price of the film, i'm scared i'll end up not using the camera because of that. Do you have any idea if there's a low cost version of the film for Polaroid Now? Maybe from another brand that is compatible or something
There’s no low cost version of the film unfortunately. However what I will say is don’t be afraid to miss shots and have some wasted film. It’s actually part of
The charm and you end up enjoying the mistakes.
It’s a great camera that you should use as much as you possible can. Take as many pictures because each one is a memory you can hold :).
For the studio shot of the guy where the polaroid performed better, was that shot with the flash or without?
Without flash. We used off camera continuous lighting for that.
@@Sondercreative thank you! beautiful shot
Idk which one to get, one is too overexposed while the other is too blurry and dark
Hello, How did u scan those photos to your computer? Thank you ;)
I took photos of them with my camera using a macro Lens.
I used an Instax 70 until it stopped working. I thought the pictures I got were way too contrasty for the most part. I think I might give the Polaroid a go.
strange, mini 70 has best exposure system whit cr2 battery
Good video. I use fill flash or not depending what the subject is and nothing wrong with using flash to fill in shadows and to brighten up the image. I have both of those cameras and like them both. Please put your camera straps on. I was wondering when you will drop your cameras. Both cameras have centering circles in the viewfinder to center your subjects. The itype camera also takes the Polaroid 600 film. I find the 600 works better in the Itype camera than a 600 Polaroid camera.
No thank you, I don’t want to wear camera straps. I’m fine holding things with my hands. Thank you for watching.
I do personally feel Polaroid film is more warm streaks a little and I don’t like it too much I stick with instax they have brighter colder colors but of course size of film can be what people want more
Also the film cost in my opinion is better with instax
I own both. They are both great. :)
Polaroid frame is just bigger.
Hi thanks for the video it was helpful but I still don't know if I should get the SQ6 or the Polaroid. I am new to this kind of camera. So I think the instax might be the better choice just to get into it. What do you think? Thanks
Despite the fact that I prefer the Polaroid, I'm finding myself shooting with the Instax more often. The reason is that it's smaller, cheaper and does produce great results.
I think if you're leaning more towards the instax, you should definitely go for it.
@@Sondercreative ok thank you
Please do the Polaroid Now Plus VS the Instax SQ1
Results are the same, its exactly the same camera except it has bluetooth. Picture quality and usability in all areas is virtually identical though.
I like the vintage look of the polaroid more
Hii, is it true that the production of the Sq6 has been discontinued?
Unfortunately yes that is correct. Fuji confirmed that the SQ1 is its replacement.
@@Sondercreative Thanks for the info. Then I am lucky that I bought an SQ6 in December last year. I already had the Lomo'Instant Square Glass with many features but not really easy to use however with very sharp photos.
would you recommend that over the sq6? @@TheLeiPol
@@vw3005 The build quality of the SQ6 is better and it is easier to use.
I just love your pronunciation… its peeerf
How did you upload the photos to lightroom?
The images were scanned and then those jpegs were imported into Lightroom.
You can use a scanner or use a camera with a macro lens to achieve what I think are better results.
@@Sondercreative thanks for the reply!
Actualy polaroid now has exposure settings(he didn’t mention that)
Mostly because it’s really not worth mentioning. The setting only allows you compensate by half a stop.
You could have still showed us the flash even if you don't like it!
Fair point, apologies.
he doesnt mention but the polaroid now actually has double exposure
Not this camera, that’s the plus model.
@@Sondercreative according to the polaroid website the standard now has the double exposure mode
@@zachsabel5466 ahh yes just looked it up and you’re right. Thank you for that info.
Both do
Everyone has old Polaroids from the 80s and 90s. It is the original classic format of instant film, therefore Polaroid will always get my vote. The film could be improved on, but i do actually prefer the look of Polaroid to Instax, despite the inaccuracies. It has that vintage look.
Modern I-type film looks nothing like the classic film, not even close.
@@michaelbell75 I do have to agree. It’s possible to get good results, but it’s very inconsistent and unreliable, and that’s not good when it’s £18 for 8 shots.
@@michaelbell75 Then again, I don’t believe even Instax comes close to the Kodak instant film from the 80s. That was the best instant film ever made.
@@teleaddict23 Depends on the look you like. Instax film is sharper with better color accuracy and dynamic range. Its even more evident when using a higher end camera like a MINT TL70 or RF70
this is yet another prime example of how badly Instax cameras tend to overexpose literally everything and makes the sky white and all the contrasting is so aggressive. I Sold my Polaroid Now for the SQ1 because the film was cheaper but what I didn't know is that although the SQ1 is more expensive it lacks a timer, exposure settings, no tripod or flash control.... The photos are almost ALWAYS overexposed or underexposed because the automatic light sensor is just terrible. I've gone BACK to Polaroid and I'm so happy I did because the photos are just so much nicer...if only it wasn't a fortune for just 8 shots. I'm keeping my SQ1 so I at least have the option to shoot instax square as it's benecitial for being so affordable, but Polaroid is once again going to remain my go-to for capturing memories
Yea the SQ1 lacks allot of features that’s why the older SQ6 is soo in demand. Shame they discontinued it.
low dynamic range of instax film, polaroid is better;i see all instax squares cameras, hybrid sq 10 and sq 20,mint tl 70 plus, mint instantkon sf70,fuji sq 6 and sq 1 but better is always my lomo instax square;but after 2 years also my sensor go crazy in exposure, totally white or black pictures whit colors film; nothing,;months after bought black white instax square film and camera works perfectly,i don t kow is double pack of color film was faulty,x rayed or if i cover light sensors in the moment of shots,or if i bought faulty cr2 battery or other;but i never done faith to square camera for important photos in public only impulse af or slr 680 always works good and reliable also if color accuracy not exist, polaroid film is always colors shifed on the pink/purple or green;slr 680 and lomo square both whit glass lens make real difference vs plastic
I have tried 3 different newer Polaroids and not only does the modern film suck compared to the classic film, no one who sells it stores it properly. It needs to be refrigerated and especially when you live in a warmer climate and stores have had it just sitting on a shelf for who knows how many months, your results will be garbage. Not only that but Polaroid film needs to be babied and hidden away from the sun etc....Instax is much better IMO. Its sharper, much more color accurate, its cheaper and and you have many more choices for cameras.
I agree about the way retailers store the film. Annoys me too.
