    This one.
    This one is this generation's Vai or Van Halen. Just a whole new thing perfectly formed out the gates.
    This is clearly post glitch, post Dubstep live guitar work that has been influenced by those movements.
    Incredible.
    Not a thing I would have predicted.

    Thank you Tim Henson. I used to get discouraged watching Tosin Abasi when he first showed up on the scene, after playing guitar for around 13 years or so when I first saw Tosin, I felt like I'd never be good enough to bother with playing professionally, but I never could quit playing because I love music too much. I've grown a lot since then, and after hearing you talk about Tosin being an inspiration that helped you get where you are today, and then seeing this video, it has made me want to try harder to get better. Now I'm around 19 years of playing and can only keep growing, learning these different styles from epic guitarists like you that love playing so much you can't stop. Keep up the phenomenal work. 🙏🏼

    • @joshjams1978
      @joshjams1978 2 роки тому +6

      Hard agree with you, however Yngwie’s absolutely not the guy that popularized the harmonic minor, that scale has been the most common minor scale since Bach. When the blues/rock started, African influences meant that guitarists mostly played pentatonic scales, but ever since the 1920s guitarists have been using the natural minor and harmonic minor indiscriminately. Jimi (probably without knowing) played harmonic minor a lot, Ritchie Blackmore (definitely knowing what he was doing, he studied classical after all) used it all the time, the solo on « Wind of Change » is the most bluesy harmonic minor thing ever, with that high major third on top of the minor V near the end of the solo, and that song had more influence than all of Yngwie career. Anyway, Mr. Malmsteen mostly played in Phrygian dominant or in harmonic minor using Andalusian cadences to get that « exotic » sound.
      Edit: spelling, I’m French, feel free to correct mistakes I could’ve missed

      @@joshjams1978 true but not many guitarists really applied the scales until yngwie made it famous. Just like how tapping existed way before but became famous after eddie van halens eruption, harmonic minor and phrygian dominant became famous because of yngwie. Both tapping and the h. Minor scales existed and played but did not become an important part of guitar playing for the next generation untill the 2 players made it popular.

      @@madmax_4917 i get what you mean and of course Yngwie was influential, but his influence was mostly « playing h. minor in the same style/harmony as Yngwie ». Harmonic minor is incredibly versatile, and even forgetting all its use in classical or jazz, lots of rock/metal/blues players were using it before he did and having a lot more mainstream influence than Yngwie. Ritchie Blackmore, Randy Rhoads, Mattias Jabs (Scorpions) and even Jimi were using it before Malmsteen and all had a lot more influence than him (no disrespect to Yngwie, he just didn’t impact the world and sell as much as these artists). Maybe he was the first to name/explain it to a variety of guitarists and thus popularized « knowing you’re playing the harmonic minor », but the scale in itself is a guitar trope in rock since the 60s.

      @@joshjams1978 ooo not sure about yngwies influence being less than the other players you mentioned. There is a reason why he is called an innovator. But whatever it is, i am just gnna say play those scales in front of most players and yngwies name will come out most of the time. Regardless of who played it before

    Saw you on Rick Beato's channel the other day. I hadn't heard your music until just now, I saw a metal guitarist critique your music. Holy Sh@t.
    I can only try to emulate you; I never would have thought to make this kind of music on my own. Beautiful choice of notes.
