I grew up in Highland Park, ca in the 90s.We never went down to the tunnels because that was gang territory. I always wanted to see them myself. It does trip me out a bit knowing Huell was so close to my house that year, and I can't help wonder what I was doing that day in 1994.Thank you Huell for all your great educational programs R.I.P - you are truly missed!

Im from the UK and part of my vacation in 2002 was a tour around LA. gotta admit that the sight of these channels interested me more than hollywood. why? because of the terminator 2 chase sequence down these channels

California's a great state to live in. Trouble is, most people here stay indoors with their a/c and don't bother exploring!

I remember when I was a child growing up in Temple City Los Angeles during the rainy season and we would look inside of that square wash way during a heavy rain and it was filled up about 2/3, maybe one half and it would really be flowing with brown water and the interesting thing was there were waves. They would come in increments. About every 30 seconds or so another wave would come. They were roughly 12 in high, all white water. A perfect line going across the entire wash. We used to jump over the safety fence so we could throw things inside and watch it float down the river. I remember once we found an old piece of plywood with a hole in it and we tied a rope to it and threw it in and held on to the Rope just to feel the power of that pool. We were wild kids. We have no business so close to that wash way. Once We snuck down there during the dry season and walked around. It was kind of spooky.

+toosexyforthenwo you're right about that second part. we are rather self-centered. however in defense of California's awesomeness- the storm drain system, as well as the freeways, and many other CA innovations, were major achievements of architecture and engineering. it may not be all that interesting to everybody, but the modern world owes a lot to those who built these wonders of the modern world.

Wow, I had no idea Huell Howser was a real person. I saw the guy doing him on Comedy Bang Bang and thought it was an original character.

Storm drains construction........ .uggghh......in Culver City ............OMG.....such a problem for our every day life and commute ..isn't there another way to do this?.....such a profound lack of community outreach or notification.....residents aren't informed or updated....our streets and alleys are torn up for months at a time ....very hazardous!!!

Styrofoam and urban waterways go hand in hand, unfortunately.
