I save the cups from laundry detergent. They make great scoops for fertilizer and measuring cups for garden liquids.
I bought a set of sturdy plastic measuring cups and spoons from the dollar store. Really come in handy.

Hi Laura 🌹 I always use two kneeling pads when I'm working on rows. You can move one forward and move right over to it without to much up and down. After you move just pick the other one up and move it ahead. This keeps my knees from getting to dirty. Thanks for the pruning tips. 🌹

I’m just astonished at how much HARD work you put in at one time! Over and over!
In about 6 days, I have become a Garden Answer shopaholic! Last Thursday, I ordered the Mesto sprayer, Felco 702 gloves, Felco grease and Felco harvesting snips. On Tuesday, I decided that I needed the Felco 2 to prune my hydrangeas, Felco sharpener and gloves, and then later that day, had to order your kneeling pads when your video came on with the pre-sale. Thanks for your excellent customer service. I received my Mesto sprayer today and am going to wear those great Felco 702 gloves for some prickly cleanup this afternoon in my country garden. I enjoyed today's video as usual!

I've given up on roses. But if you are struggling with large bags of fertilizer - the 32 lb bags fit perfectly in a 32 lb kitty litter tubs. Mine stack nicely for the off season or for the ones I use less often. Flip top lids that make it easy to scoop out what I need. Water proof. Dog proof. Mice proof.

60 roses cleaned and fertilized in one day ! I'd have needed 2 weeks to do all of that with my knees and back. Labor of love ❤️.
I moved my grandmothers mini carpet roses last fall. My mom had moved them from southern exposure, where Grams planted them, to the northern side probably 15 years ago. They got little to no sun and were constantly taken over by spider mites. They've looked like crap for over a decade. I put them in the front courtyard which is on the eastern side of the house. Hopefully they'll get enough sun now and start to grow like they are supposed to.
I take it I can prep them same as you did, pre-spring, but of course trim them down shorter as they are cute little shorties.

I still enjoy seeing the giant black cube pots with obelisks in that garden. Last year I found smaller similar ones for my yard, and daughter had given me two obelisks when she moved!!!
Laura, I was taught to clean my clippers after trimming each rose bush so that you do not transfer disease to the next bush. I learned from Joy Creek Nursery that using Lysol spray on the clippers and then wiping the excess spray off with a clean old hand towel.
I just dip mine in a plastic container of bleach water. I don't even bother with wiping the clippers off. I'm dealing with black spot pretty badly. Hoping all the extra love and clean out will keep them healthy this year.
Music 🎶 was delightful! I loved the throwback to the 1970’s type music. It reminded me of my youth. Roses remind me of my mom and grandmas.
Indont know why I feel this way, but roses are the sovereign of a garden. They stand graceful and steadfast,.servicing all the beneficials, whilst lifting up the entire landscape by just being there.
I can not wait to see how the second year of this bed comes alive, it’s going to be something.

This video really uplifted my spirit! After a very difficult year helping my sister through chemo, I had no time or energy to tuck my roses in for Winter. Seeing that you left your plants and just now pruning them makes me not beat myself up for my garden's current state... that everything is okay! This week's weather for February in Iowa has given me the opportunity to catch-up on/get ahead of maintenance. My roses will get cared for TODAY!

Great tutorial - I will revisit it when I’m ready to prune my roses. Love it when you turn your face up to the warm sunlight just like a flower bloom does and then the happy tunes start playing (and so do the kiddos 😊) . You should give us a little 2 second “sun dance” 💃 jig when that happens .

I just wanted to share with you how much I have enjoyed your utube. My husband(Pat) and I (Janis) have a few acres so our interests and love of flowers and gardening are similar. We have a greenhouse and a separate seeding room with lights . I have done a few projects you have shown such as the winter seeding method in milk jugs and the wisteria wreath from our very over grown plant. Did my roses yesterday. Was hesitant about feetilizer because it isn't even Spring yet but it was so warm ,sixty degrees so i added a little after i cleaned out from under each. So relieved to get it done. Now I'm ready for some annuals,but i know March can be contrary. Tho i live in Georgia,our largest snow storms when we do have one,has come in March. Our weather is so bipolar. We can have all four seasons in one week. .Rule on planting my vegetable garden is do it on Good Friday. My cousin wanted to get a jump on it, and planted in March. It came a freeze one or two nights in a row and she lost everything. Had to replant. We have a long griwing season,so April is the best month to start. Days are longer also. Which means the plants get more hours of sunshine. Happy gardening everyone. May this be a blessed year for everyone!

Hello Garden Answer friends..from Traverse City. MI. I am excited to see how these rosebushes reflush back for Laura..Seemingly, anything she cuts back comes back loving life even more. I bought 4 roses end of season a few years ago, I thought I better get them out of their containers & in the ground, as Laura has repeated numerous times.. So that is what I did. Dont you know the deer feasted. The deer never bothered them on the deck, , but as soon as they were in the ground they were meals . I was so sad...they never really reflushed for me..even with rose tone...if they don't come back this year I will yank them...they were so pretty, makes me sad to know what they were & now have become. Hello! Hopefully your roses reemerge this yr! Here in Grand Rapids, MI we have so many beautiful deer as well. With 100 acres behind our house and a nature park up the Rd it's inevitable. I've tried many plants & shrubs thinking they won't notice.. haaa!. Now it's only deer resistant for us, and my veg garden is fenced in.
The deer are feasting in Northport, too. I’ve had good luck using a number of deer repellents, Milorganite and an Orbit motion-activated sprinkler, they do NOT like that! Best price for Milorganite has been at McGough’s
I feel your pain. I garden in southeast Michigan out in the country. There is so much deer pressure nothing is safe. I wrap some in burlap but on five acres I can’t do everything. We just have to pick our battles.
Hey Michigan neighbors from little old Ravenna! Deer, rabbits, and a woodchuck family last year. They ate all my hostas on the parameter of our property. They stayed out of the yard because of the dogs but those dogs are their own kind of special.
I find that to be such an interesting fact! We can plant or pot things in certain areas of our garden but then, if we plant or pot them only a few feet away… They get munched on!
I had the same exact thing happened to my hydrangeas, Heucheras, among other plants…
When I begin to notice munching occurring, I have uproot them, move them to a less covered area and they are fine.

I’m sorry that this happened to you maybe size up the pots and keep them on your porch or purchase a deer zapper and place some next to your landscapes roses

I can't believe you pruned 60 roses in one day! I pruned 5 today (with my new Felco gloves and #2 from Garden Answer) and have about 20 more to go! Boy do those gloves ever work like you say. Not one stick from a thorn today. Good job. Do the trimmings go in your compost pile? I would think rose canes don't easily compost.

I don’t have any roses in my hot, humid eastern NC garden yet. Between the fungal issues and Japanese beetles I’ve been hesitant. But they’re so gorgeous! After watching this I’m super tempted to plant at least one and see how it goes. I know all gardeners lose plants from time to time but it’s hard to knowingly plant something that will test the limits. But I believe this is the year! Here’s hoping it goes well! 🙏🏻

I felt exactly the same about my roses! Just cut them WAY back and fertilized them. I almost pulled mine out last year, but I read up more on them and decided to really pour some love into them. Mine are drift roses in a somewhat inhospitable area, so they’re honestly perfect for the area, they just get unruly. Hoping I can make them more beautiful this year! Can’t wait to see how they turn out! LOVE all of your advice!

I grow over 100 roses in a formal rose garden. I left 5' between each rose so I could
get around them to cut flowers, fertilize, and prune all season.
Those pruned bushes look so nice and neat!
I have a lovely yellow Floribunda that I love. Unfortunately, the Japanese Beetles do too. We are in Missouri.
I don't know if this info will be of use, but I have Virginia creeper just on the other side of a fence where my roses are. I won't say I never get the Japanese beetles in my roses, because I do, but the damage is minimal. Instead, they just decimate the creeper which is not as bad because I can cut that right back to the ground as soon as their season is over (and it gives me a place to concentrate my BT spray regimen--I'm crossing my fingers that I'll have less of a population this year as a result).
Can we see a video showcasing the rose blooms from last year in one compilation ? I only remember seeing few blooms 😊
Another great video. We are planting 7 white roses in our front yard in March so this was very timely. Our Gardner lady has promised they will survive Scottsdale AZ heat of 115 degrees. We shall see. Lol

Roses are my jam! It's so important to sterilize your pruners before you start to cut on a new bush. Disease spreads so quickly people. Especially when you see a rose or plant that isn't looking too healthy. Also you shouldn't prune 1st year plants. You wait until they've been in the ground over a full calendar year before pruning.

I live in zone 14, northern, east bay, California. It's been so windy and wet the last two weeks, i haven't been able to care for any of my plants. All are in pots. Yesterday was nice and sunny, went out to pick up plants that the storms had moved. My rose had already started to bud. Didnt want to cut it back, just cleaned it up. We'll see how it does this season.
