  • When it comes to fly fishing this is dry and dropper combo fly that works. If you're fly fishing for river fish then you need this in your locker.
Do you like fishing the DUO / New Zealand Style, but you don't want the hassle of having to re-tie your leader set up each time that you want your nymph to fish deeper or shallower?
In this video, I'll help you create an adjustable Dry Fly, to use in conjunction with your nymph. This is a fish catching pattern that can be slid up and down the leader to suit the fishing situation you're faced with.
    Simple, fuss-free, and a total game-changer!

Good variation of one designed by a UA-cam fisher guy. FLY ALL SZN For this design, I’d use a hook with an up-eye and run tippet thru the eye to make the connection more secure.
    Great concept

i use a couple of drennan float stops, one markered black for going over the head and another red/green for pushing the hook through to the butt. this way i can change flies.

You could use any dry fly and 2 float stops.. Just thread the tippet through the eye and slide it up and down.. The float stops look like eyes. You could then go full length of the tippet for your depth.

float stops, you mean coarse fishing? :)

Float stops.. The small ones fit 0.15 - 0.25 tippet line.. Put one either side of the hook eye, you can then have a buzzer on the point and a foam daddy above.. You just set the depth by sliding the daddy up or down.. You don't tie the daddy onto the line at all.. Just slide it up to what ever depth you want.. A fish takes the daddy its locked in place by the float stops.

Hi great idea, what size tippet ring is it please??

Class fly Steve it seems to solve a lot of the problems using the duo, what’s the largest size tungsten bead the dry can support?

I like the idea since I regularly fish dry dropper, but have a couple of questions. 1. If you hook a good fish on the dry is the tension enough to hold a decent fish while it slides down to the tippet ring and 2. how strong is the dry, will it fall apart if you hook a big fish? Being in NZ I often hook fish in the 5-8lb range and 2-5lb is average so I am wondering if it were to take the dry would it last the fight or the day? Would it be better to have the tippet run through the hook eye in case the fly falls apart?

Steve, does the tippet threaded through the foam not stop fish from taking the dry fly? I can't see how they could get their mouths round it with the tippet there.

What happens when a fish takes the dry? You wouldn't be able to set nicely until the fly ran down to the tippet ring and then the ring would bust through the foam no? Maybe Im not seeing it.

This is the exact problem I see too. How can you set a hook on a non-fixed fly?!! There's another dude in the US (his channel - FLY ALL SZN) that has a slightly different slider system, I asked him the same question but didn't really get a solid answer.
I think the whole thing is kinda gimmicky.

That dude in the USA has caught TONS of fish on his version. Definitely not a gimmic. He actually shows it in his videos.

What if a fish takes the dry fly? It's not actually tied on so would probably get ripped off would it not?

    • @donaldburleyson3099
      @donaldburleyson3099 4 роки тому

The way it's tied on it would have to be a pretty big fish to take the fly off. It goes thru the foam and has everything tied on top of it. It may actually be hard to break off. The only real problem I see would be the hook set.

If you threaded the tippet through the eye before tying on the top tippet ring would it still fish ok? Just thinking it would be added insurance if a big fish took the dry. Great tutorial, like the idea!😉

What length of leader would you use steve? And would it just be a straight piece of say 6 or 7lb mono so it's tapered?
