    I just turned his "record pitch up, play pitch down" technique upside down on my microsampler: I recorded pitched and tempo'd down beats on very low resolution (6 to 12khz) and set them to "BPM pitch change". When the beats are played back at their original BPM, there is a bit less of the original harmonic content, but I save up a bunch of memory on my little toy with some cute lo-fi artifacting! Moments like that make me feel like I belong to a tradition of cool tinkerers. Much love to this guy and all the hardware sampleurs out there!

    The 3630 is so good. People tend to focus on things that are "perfect", clean, and easy to use. Look at the Juno synths, they're very basic, it's hard to do wrong with them or get a bad sound, and people go fucking nuts for them. I don't like Juno's because of that, there's no grit, it's all to samey, it lacks character and it's boring. That's why I like the 3630, it's a pice of shit, any other compressor is better at compressing than it, but you got to look outside of the box, don't use it like you would any other compressor, treat it as it's own unique thing. Embrase it's flaws, make the bad qualities about it work to your advantage, use it's uniqueness to bring something different. Take that logic and apply it to whatever you want, it make everything more fun

      @Patrick-pv9pe 6 місяців тому

      The Emu SP-1200 only has a 10 second maximum sample time. So by sampling at a higher speed and pitching it down, you save memory for more samples. The side-effect of this is the "crunchy" clock noise that this produces in the samples that is part of what makes the Emu SP-1200 so special.
