- Cambodia is still a great value country and, away from the tourist areas, you can get amazing value. I found a little gem of a restaurant not far from Pub Street. Let's take a look.

The quality of bread in Cambodia and Vietnam is a heritage of both having been part of the French Empire until the 1950s.
Lao bread is good for the same reason

Fantastic that you found this little restaurant, because I used to eat there all the time as well, when I stayed there several years ago.
Then I found a place that serves Khmer food straight from huge pots, for Khmers only ,which was delicious and super cheap.

When I lived in Siem Reap, this was my go to place. The food and drink are great value. They don't just do fried pork, fried eggs and chips....most Cambodian mains are just $2.50 and come with rice and a free bottle of water. I'd have fried noodles (with chicken/pork/beef), plus 3 generous gin and tonics, and still get change from $5. It's always busy, and for good reason.

Been lots of times gin and tonic 1 dollar good food too. Going to South east asia again for 3 months
In February my girlfriend & I stayed over the road in the Central residence suites....and like you Ed can highly recommend this place for good value meals. Also the hotel I mentioned is very nice...a very spacious suite for £50 a night now....and while it was significantly cheaper in February that still is good value I,d say given location.
How much was it in February?

The simple pleasures are the best.
I don't know if they still do this, but over in India-Asia they put a drop of glycerine in bottle beers(at production) to help them not go off in the heat. That could be why you're having a funny feel when drinking bottled beer.
Idk if they still do this but found that out 20-15years ago. Also could be people pulling my leg. The glycerine shouldn't hurt you in anyway.

And the French architecture but the price the French Indochina Countries paid was civil wars, genocide & communist rule. While Thailand was not Colonized & they built Victory Monument in 1941 in Bangkok in commemorate Thailand’s victory in the Franco-Thai though there is more to that history.

Nice to see you show this restaurant, I can highly recommend, his place. me & my wife loved this place, food is excellent, staff fantastic. out hotel just across, the road 2min walk. tuck tuck drivers used to park up out side ,hence the restaurant staff got us a driver, much cheaper than the rest to take us to Angkor wat. another place highly recommended if you visit SIEM REAP. Thats a great resturant Eddie. stayed at hotel nearby & often went there. Also was the Chill rooftop bar formally known as X bar. Remember it had a skateboard ramp on the roof.

Getting hungry just watching this Eddy, looks great and I totally agree with you. I have always found the best quality restaurants are not the the flashy ones on the main strip but the ones located on the quieter side streets.

It's a great place.🤘 Ganzberg is the best Cambodian beer.
If you go down Sok San, most of the little restaurants are fairly similar, with similar prices, many of them serve some mix of khmer and American food, at similar prices around $1.5 for eggs and toast, on up to $10 to $15 for seafood. All are ok, just pick and try each one.

What a bargain! Here in the US, I can't even get a regular cup of coffee with $4.5 at many cafes. A latte or mocha is like $6-7; a beer is $8-10.

The former French Colonisers taught the Khmer how to make nice bread. It's one of the simple things I remember about Cambodia.

You should check out the Wat Bo area of siem reap. Not far from pub street. It was voted 3rd in worlds " coolest / trendy" places to live.
Also, if you plan on coming to PP, check out the boat from Siem Reap. Just for something different instead of a bus.

I just had lunch in Bkk with my two sons @ Savelberg, michelin restaurtant, near 400 euros (four hundred euros) for the three of us, and we didnt even have a beer. For brekkie this morning, I had Kaow pad kai, egg fried rice, about 2 euros with a coffee.
$1 for rhe eggs and bread . That's my breakfast right there . Wow . The pork looks really nice . So less then $10 for me to eat . A few beers . That's $20 a day for me . Great . I have to get there . Thanks Eddy.
