    Amazing how fast you can create things nowadays with 3d printers and laser cutters. Scratch building will sore to another level.
    And there are amazing scratch builders out there using scissors to cut aluminium foil making intricate and highly accurate models, can't imagine what will come next.
    Great build!

    Hello :) That's really nice ! But I am very surprised that we can cut foam and steel with a diode laser cutter. I was told by the builder of mine that steel would simply reflect the laser beam into the lenses system and damage it. And regarding the foam, I thought it would give toxic fumes, but I saw your previous comment saying "Don't quote me on this, but if the foam is safe for a hot wire cutter it should be safe for a lazer" and it makes sense ... ;) Anyway, Merry Christmas for you, if it's relevant for you, and have a nice day in all cases ! Cheers ! :)

      Never thought of that, but they said it can cut 0.05mm stainless steel, and it can. I've cut quite a lot now and everything's fine. As to the foam, I saw lots of channels cutting it without a problem. The big no no is plasticard or ABS, which is a shame.

      @@dodgydioramas yeah I imagine. There's been a few things on Etsy I would have gotten if I'd had one of these. I would need to sort out the Workshop/"that will be useful one day" storage place at the end of the garden though.
      I also want the K1 Max as well, lol

    I’ve got a Creality on order and want to hit the ground running (or at least not falling too often). This video provides information I haven’t seen in the zillion others I’ve watched, thanks.

    Love it! and completed so quickly. The windows came out perfectly 👍I haven't cut metal on my laser cutter yet, you have inspired me to give it a go, many thanks 😀

    • @dodgydioramas
      @dodgydioramas  10 місяців тому +1

      It's not as thick as etched brass, so it won't have quite the structural strength, but there are so many uses it could be put to.

      @@dodgydioramas It looks pretty flimsy, but perfect for the scale. I have used wood or even craft foam for mini windows, especially if I want to curve them around something. Will definitely give the metal a go, cheers. 😀

    Oh, wow! First of all, congrats on getting PR, that’s super exciting for your channel!! Secondly, this was very useful to me since I just got a laser cutter and I had literally NO idea I could use it on foam, so thank you!

    Laser cutters are fast becoming the ultimate crafting and diorama tool, being able to cut all these different materials changes everything. But I won't be getting one any time soon, alas.

      When I was first interested in 3D Printers, they were all around the £2000 mark. Mass adoption has slashed that price, so give it time.

    Very nicely done. Do you think that by painting the blue foam with a black paint you might be able to reduce the reflection and cut thicker foam?

    • @dodgydioramas
      @dodgydioramas  10 місяців тому

      Not sure but I'd guess it won't make much difference as it still has to cut through the blue core

    Great job! Loved watching this. What settings did you use to cut the stainless steel and brass? And it was 0.05 mm?

    • @dodgydioramas
      @dodgydioramas  10 місяців тому +1

      100% power 12mm per second for stainless steel and 5mm per second for the brass, both 0.05mm thick. I do think the stainless could go thicker

    Can it cut a sheet of paper and cardboard? Or does it catch on fire? Cause I want this one for building DnD craftings 😅

      Sorry, I almost forgot to do the testing. So... no problem. I even massively overdid it and set the laser to cut 10mm plywood, and it still didn't catch on fire. It made beautiful clean cuts.

      If you watch my last video, 'What happens next? A Medieval Diorama build' at about 13 mins in it has cardboard being cut on the laser.
