It’s a respect level for the game that demonstrates your love for it. It’s no different than any other relationship. There’s times that you don’t want to talk to your mom/wife/husband/kids/friend but you respect and love them enough to not bring that negative energy to them. A job is no different. A sport is no different. Just because you are doing what you love doesn’t mean you’re always gonna love doing it. Love it enough to respect it enough to “fake it” when you need to get past your own feelings

    This was a great segment.
Made me think about the overtime that Al Horford puts in on the Celtics, who are a very, very young team. Like, sure, it's astonishing he can still show up and drop 10/12 with 4 assists and 3 stocks, off the bench, or starting, but having someone who knows how to be a player, how to live, how to eat, how to train for a LONG career - and who is obviously extremely invested in sharing that knowledge - is his probably greatest contribution to the team. Everyone in green for the last few years is a better pro, better for the league, bc of Horford. His value cant be overstated.

This was my favorite segment of this podcast. Grown men speaking about the importance of humility. Having ability to take off th veneer if the tough guy to become more approachable more marketable. Building bridges and creating relationships in order further ones own professional career. Taking the younger generation under the wing to hopefully protect them from themselves. The NBA is a microcosm of the macrocosm. These same behaviors need to be taught outside of basketball and implemented in regular life. The lack of these conversations is the reason for the disconnect between generations. This conversation shows the importance of men and the guidance that elders can bring to make the exof the youth easier. Yes the traps will always be there but at least someone that's already been down the road can tell what to look for.

Name recognition keeps fan bases too. No ones going to have any investment in a team that has all young dudes they never heard on it. PJ Brown and Sam Cassell were a big part of that 08 Celts teams playoff run. PJ came in and hit some huge shots, Sam ran the offense while Rondo was out.

It’s a byproduct of college simply being a rest stop to the pros. The market is flooded with young players so the older ones are inevitably pushed out. Jordan, Magic, Allen Iverson, Shaq all played multiple years in college. Even when Kobe & KG made the jump from high school they weren’t immediately required to be THE guy because there was a veteran presence.
