It tells you how perfect the Steam Deck was on arrival when a lot of other companies are scrambling to get their own iteration out to try and take a slice of the pie, but Valve have done SUCH a good job with the Deck, that none of the other alternatives come close.
I think rog ally and Lenovo comes the closest in term of alternative if people wanted to
Tho I'm still sticking to get steam deck instead
@@boodesultan12 custom OS built with the hardware in mind will always be superior to just slapping Windows on a device and hoping for the best. Really love that Valve allows things like EmuDeck and the Decky plug-in to exist too!
@Videogamer96 not that they really could stop it, steamOS is based on linux, making locking it down, even if Valve wanted to, a very difficult thing to do

Valve doing marketing? Shocking!
Jokes aside really cool video. Wish I had one
yea, if they did marketing properly some of their games like Dota: Underlords wont fail so miserably.
@@evertchinThey probably just lost interest in developing it at some point honestly. Valve employees afai understand it can work on pretty much whatever they want.
@@bingobanginithat's how it's supposed to work, but it's common knowledge now that the company has a social hierarchy, and the higher-ups can, and will, dock your pay or outright fire you if they don't see any returns from what you're working on. So most employees are quietly encouraged to only work on what's bound to be a good investment for them and that's one of the reasons a lot of projects fail.
dude buy it i own it and its my freaking baby i fell in love with games again ive been to busy working but now i get excited for my breaks so i can play i love the sleep mode i start a mission and when my breaks over i can pick up where i left off same goes for when i get home i can lay down and play or dock it and use my mouse and keyboard or elite controller its so freaking universal plus hook it up my bluetooth soundbar and its a freaking powerhouse with all that bass gaming
You will have one eventually trust me. Its going to replace the entire gaming market in time. Ive been playing Marrowind on it and Dead Rising 2, beat Dead Rising 1 on it too. It was a smooth experience. This thing has been a complete blessing and I use it almost as much as I play on my 5000$ gaming setup.
Totally worth it fasting for a month to get this thing.
A truly amazing computer capable of many things you throw at it
Even a rock?
Just don't throw the thing itself.
My pindus hurts
Bro it plays Nintendo Switch games better than Nintendo Switch plays Nintendo Switch games. WHERE MY FPUS AT NINTENDO?
I love stutters.
My favorite part of the Steam Deck is that it's a PC. I can mod it, install windows on it, emulate on it or just play Vampire Survivors. It truly Is a handheld PC. Props, Valve. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this tech.
A device I can punch in to work, export a csv file and import to a vendor, punch out, play old school Microsoft Pinball, watch an episode of Doctor Who, then watch a Futurama loading screen to bring up games, play Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast synced with achievements, then jump to Factorio for 12 hours, and move to Open Morrowind with working mods
The bring to the library, plug into the TV, turn on four 8bitdo controllers and play Overcooked .
But it can't print very easily. Close enough to a masterpiece
Valve in a nutshell, everyone cares that they are gone for years, almost to the point of being irrelavant, and then "HELLO Y'ALL WE'RE EFFING BACK WITH MORE MAGIC!!!!" was my favourite studio 1999 and still is today. Thank you for HL, CS,TF, Steam, Deck and Index.
What I love the most from this device is the fact that Valve actually give consumers a lot of options to upgrade the performance experience. My Deck is the 64Gb version running with a WD NVMe M.2 SSD with 2Tb inside, as a custom installation, part of my purchase.
Never before I've been so satisfied with the gaming experience. While the setting up can be time consuming at times, the capacity to run games at the end is very rewarding, nonetheless
it's cheapest to get the first level, and upgrade the drive, the cheapest won't run slower than the highest
for me its the small things that really make it shine. like being able to replace the ssd fairly easily or them making it easier to change the boot vids or just letting community fixes stand until a proper patch is rolled out. other companies might make it easy to add storage but the rest i cant think of another company that would. and its great because it shows they are listening and trust us and the product.

The pressure of a copycat. We will see how long Asus' breath holds stand (how long they are willing to invest).
@@-_ch40s_ Consider it a copycat if you want, but that ASUS's "deck" will be sold out very quickly :)
I was a PC gamer for years, now I'm "too old" for games, at 33 I don't have time for them anymore. I'm buying games as a form of appreciation, I don't play them. I even bought original Steam Controller and one was never turned on, other one I just turned on for 10 minutes testing. When there was a sale recently I bought Steam Deck, just to try it out and put on the shelve.
GOD DAMN I was SO AMAZED when I tried it. It was so seamless and smooth experience. I don't know if I'm more amazed by hardware (not performance, I'm talking about these touchpads, how it fits in my hands) or the software (on Steam OS it run every single game I tried, even when it was marked as unsupported, the UI is handy, the controls customization is out of this world).
Finally I'm somehow finding some time to play again. It's so fast to just grab it, continue where I left off day before and pause it again anytime I want it.
I was skeptical and now I'm a total fanboy on an unhealthy level!
How does it run AAA games? Do you think it will run fighting games like tekken 8 when it comes out?
@@b-41subject57 I cannot answer with 100% certainty. Not every game works on Steam OS, you can always install Windows, but some things are unsupported there, games often have worse performance and you loose the awesome UI.
Fighting games aren't probably that demanding so personally I'd think it will be all right. Tekken 7 works flawlessly on high and ultra settings according to ProtonDB (page that lists games compatibility with Proton, thing that Steam OS uses to run Windows soft on Linux).
@@varez1 ok. Is the proton thing already in the default settings i can toggle off or on? I'm not really a computer guy unfortunately. I should be getting my steam deck in about 10 days
@@b-41subject57 Yes, Proton is a default thing, there is no need to toggle it off. Steam Deck was made to be easy to use, so most of the things "just works". You can tweak stuff to get more of the console than it offers by default, but that's optional.
I already replied to you, but either I forgot to submit or my comment got removed so I'm not mentioning any tweak names now in case somebody didn't like it :)

@@moister3727 So many reasons, low on resources, complete privacy, robustness, doesn't make hardware obsolete every other year, total control and monitoring of what it exactly does. I begun in 2000 and it's really nice seeing it come together so nicely nowadays, peripherals not working is the oddity in 2023, not the norm. Whereas back then you had to chose carefully. In that sense I've never been bothered that a few games don't work. I chose freedom and control, and gladly accept a few constraints personally. But I understand people who like it the other way around, at the end of the day, whatever makes people happy.
@@pranze3484 Just started in 2018 supporting and giving reports to ProtonDB. Updates actually make the OS better.
Somehow I haven’t seen enough people fully realize the impact Valve has had on desktop Linux. Although Windows users weren’t smirking and mocking us Linux users as much as they used to ten years ago or so, the Steam Deck has ramped up acceptance and interest in Linux (at least online). It was nigh unheard of for PC owners to talk positively and straight up demand Linux in new computers outside of Linux groups. Yes it’s mostly gamers asking for SteamOS in new PC handhelds but that alone is big I’d say. If Valve’s push to spread Linux doesn’t lose steam (heh) then we might see more migrate the rest of their computers to Linux.

Are you using SteamOS? How well does it work for you?
I unironically use this for work more than I do for gaming (most days I just play games on my home desktop), but I love that I can just undock it and still get access to my Steam library while on the road to another meeting. This piece of tech is exactly what I've been waiting for all these years.
I'm considering it for this specific reason, would you write some feedback how good it is as a working machine?
@@sne4ky647 I should probably add a disclaimer that it really depends on what your job is. Personally everything I need is through web apps so it's just a matter of getting a browser installed (a Firefox installer is included) and getting comfortable with Linux as an OS. Coming from a Windows background it took a little bit of googling to do what I wanted but the transition really isn't that bad. I think as long as the stuff you need is installable on Linux without your company's IT department kicking up a fuss it should be good to go.
Outside of image editing software which might make things slightly choppy, the Deck shouldn't have any issues running the software you need/want. In terms of input, I got myself the most compact Bluetooth keyboard + mouse just for the device since it helps with portability, along with a third party dock, but every little inclusion means you're carrying a heavier, bulkier load no matter what so you'll need to account for that if you're really bringing it on the go.
The screen size can be somewhat small especially if you're working with word processing or even general browsing, but I knew that going in and to be honest it feels substantially bigger than my phone so I'm quite OK with it. I prefer hooking it up with an external monitor whenever possible, though.
All that aside, one neat bonus with desktop mode is that as long as you've got your keyboard and mouse connected, the gaming experience is almost exactly the same as playing on a standard PC. I'd say the majority of your Steam library is likely fine to play as well.
Pack that all away and you still get your handheld Steam Deck experience just as Lord Gaben intended.
I think the only real drawback is the lack of a camera which is why I still keep my work laptop around. You can probably get a Bluetooth one as a workaround though, but I don't see much need for one personally.
i've had mine for nearly a year now and it still continues to impress me. I've even gotten may "Unsupported" games to run just fine! So flexi-able, so fun!
