Unfortunately, this was mostly due to the fact that Carlson is squeaky clean. Watch Cenk's debate with Dinesh D'Souza. Cenk uses ad hominim attacks throughout the debate to try to argue against his reasoning, which is a logical fallacy and counter productive to civil discourse.
I just discovered these politico debates and they are fantastic. I watch The Young Turks everyday so you can imagine how I feel about Tucker Carlson, so imagine my surprise when I actually agreed with him a few times. It's awesome to here from both sides of the political spectrum and it's civil and educational.
Benis Brager I honestly don’t know why people keep peddling this as some kind of gotcha. The truth is that Sam Seder doesn’t have much fame, and therefore he won’t debate him. The reason being is because if he did, then he would have no choice to either debate everyone else, or be considered a coward for chickening out. Plain and simple.
What's up with all the hate? Tucker and Cenk agreed on most things in this debate. It makes you wonder if people even pay attention to what people are actually saying or if they're just listening to their guy's talking points.
Dustin Brown They're either agreeing with each other or talking past each other. They didn't talk about anything but their own talking points when they were discussing immigration, and a few other things. This debate did really go anywhere, unless you were listening for your own sides talking points. That's why I think the debate with Sam Seder and Charlie Kirk was much better than this one. Those two actually got into the issues, but they mostly talked about economics. I wanted to hear more about culture and policy from Tucker and Cenk since the right and the left rarely talk to each other about anything other than straw man arguments, but they either agreed with each other or talked past each other. Bottom line: no one won this debate. Anyone thinking there was a clear victor here suggests they grabbed onto either Cenk's or Tuker's talking points and missed the fact that this debate didn't go anywhere. One would throw out an issue and the other would say "I agree" or they would retreat into their cookie cutter positions and fail to address the other's position. No real conflict occurred. Now if someone wanted to make the assertion that Sam Seder won against Charlie Kirk, then we can talk. That actually would have some merit.
Please, don't try to tell Michael Alexander basic economic facts, he is a socialist NPC and already knows what he needs to know. Beep... boop... as you were.
This is where social democracy comes in. There will always be a disparity between how much value labor produces, and how much it's sold for. In pure economic terms, it is supply and demand. With zero labor laws, this disparity increases astronomically, where wages approach zero, yet the value of that labor to the company can remain high. If the wage/value disparity approaches zero, then entrepreneurs don't get the incentive to take on the risk of starting a company. The trick is finding the right balance between not letting people starve from lack of compensation to the value they create, and not killing the goose that lays the golden egg. In my opinion, this is foremost an economic structural problem, not an immigration one. Though, i think having completely open borders certainly wouldn't make things easier, so immigration should be at least some part of the debate.
That's why the unions have been decimated for the last 4 decades. It makes life easier for the top. Amazing how the gop has convinced people how good that is for them.
I have to say, this was really refreshing. Especially compared to Hassan's debate, this felt miles more civil and productive. It felt more like a discussion than a debate most of the time. You can still criticize Tucker for things he said, but to have some agreement between these two men who would normally have full detestment for each other is just great. We need more 1 on 1 conversations like this, otherwise the us vs them mentally always gets in the way of the real issues.
Its a case of younger more passionate debaters v more mature and passionate debaters. As well as having rules laid out that specifically stated "dont talk over each other". The Piker/Kirk debate stopped being a true debate the moment one started talking over the other turning it into a straight up argument as opposed to a debate such as this.

It's funny how many people are championing a winner. I'm a longtime TYT viewer and this was the most normal, measured, rational debate I've watched at a Politicon, and definitely the only one where it didn't quickly devolve into ad hominems or screaming. Was kind of a nice watch.
It was quite unusual seeing a debate like this. It seems like they made a decision behind the scenes to let each other have their time to shine, without too much talking over each other.
Did you see Kyle vs Scottie in the "Is Trump Winning" debate? I'd argue that that takes the #1 spot as most normal, measured, and rational debate. This one takes the #2 spot in my opinion.
SSky06 Idk what you are talking about. Tucker put his framing and opinion out there. Cenk pushed the whole "money in politics" line to try to win support despite the fact that he takes in a lot of political money like a superPAC. So he is an extreme hypocrite. He pushed the debate this direction twice by asking if Tucker believes in the 28th amendment, which is a bonkers idea because money in politics is largely by owning the news companies. He didnt want to talk about how he was getting absolutely hammered on the immigration front. The thin veil of pro-rich, cheap labor immigrants was pulled away and he was cornered
ArchesBro he didn’t bring up money in politics to ‘win support,’ he actually believes in ending it. He runs a pac designed to push legislation to end it. Cenk doesn’t take money from superpacs, he’s not a politician...? As for whatever other gibberish you’re spewing, save it. This was a rational debate about a few issues. If you’re saying someone got ‘owned’ or ‘destroyed’ then you’re just too blinded by hyper partisanship to have a conversation with. And that’s coming from me - a socialist.
Do you realize how much money TYT takes in from politicians to promote certain talking points? How is he different from a superPAC? If he was against superPAC entities and money in poltics, he would stop taking so much money from Buddy Roemer. If there was a law against superPACs, there would still be people like him taking in millions at TYT, paid for by Roemer, to spout a political ideology and promote candidates.
What I like about Cenk is that he is clear and concise when he answers a question. The moderator asks and he answers. He doesn’t beat around the bush or ramble until you forget what he was supposed to be answering, unlike other commentators and politicians.
This is the first debate I've seen where Cenk is truly trying to have a conversation in a debate. I had completely written him off over the past few years, but maybe he has come to the realization that you can't hide any views in 2018. I'd like to see more of this version of Cenk

Damn I really had more faith in this comment section.....if you insulted either Cenk or Tucker than you are part of the problem. The people that are calling Cenk a beta because they disagree with him are incapable of discussion and have wasted their time watching this video. For those that are saying, "All tucker did was ramble..." you are either deaf or put no effort into interpreting his viewpoint. I really thought a video like this would draw a civil audience, but most of y'all seem to think an exchanging of ideas is some sort of football game.
The sad reality is that politics as entertainment isn't just the model that mainstream news has adapted. It was adapted for monetary benefit, because the members of our society prefer politics as entertainment over politics as civic duty. Few people even try to inform themselves on politics and even fewer can break through the "entertainment barrier" and consume information in a way that doesn't allow them to slip into a cycle of entertainment that reinforces their beliefs. I realize that even I am guilty of this, but people really don't go into these debates with an open mind, usually they just want to watch their one political avatar crush the enemy political avatar. Yes, it is just like football. But the tragedy is that in football, there is a scoreboard that everyone agrees is valid, and everyone knows who won in the end. The abstract nature of political debate means everyone goes in with a different set of rules in their head to determine the winner, and their biases and beliefs mean they have a different angle as they view every play, and thus at the end of the game, nobody can agree on who even won the game, and so there's no progress or unity achieved, only deeper divides as everyone believes their team is undefeated.

Carlson seemed to agree with Cenk on almost everything and then proceeded to give out more talking points... this wasnt even a debate. The guy needs to leave Fox news, they’re damaging his brain lol.
people who say “tucker DESTROYED cenk” or vice versa are missing the point. tucker is not that kind of guy. he actually goes into it with an open mind and defends his points with actual reasoning instead of sophistry and fast talking to intimidate and appear more intelligent (gee who could i possibly be referring to). tucker doesn’t set out to destroy his opponent. he sets out to understand and learn while explaining his own side. people focus to much on “winning” or appearing to win than on actually having a productive conversation that accomplishes something.
This is very true, however I think people supporting to notion of Cenk being “destroyed” by Tucker is a good thing. While I’d rather have civil disagreement which can barely be had nowadays, Cenk and his organization are truly a sickness and a plague that needs to be stomped out. They add nothing beneficial to society. Nothing at all. While I respect Tucker, and all those who act the way he does, and while I believe in civil discussion with organizations such as these, I find it hard not to just being it down by any means. Hence why people say “Cenk got destroyed”. I try not to lower myself to that type of insult that doesn’t benefit any side, I truly find it difficult.
So Cenk was very civil with Tucker. I never once heard him call Tucker racist or accuse him of racism. But yet Tucker keeps whining about being called racist. Cenk didn’t attack or accuse at all yet Tucker keeps going off on these tirades just so he can have them included in the debate!
Conservatives assume that every person on the left will automatically go to racism as a critique which is simply not true. They build the strawman into their world ideology and attack the left as a whole on that strawman. It's ridiculous.
If u ask me, Tucker AND Cenk are BOTH RACIST. Lately, Cenk is EXTREMELY disrespectful to Black ppl. Like on this show, he named the groups that "built this country." But he COMPLETELY left out BLACK PEOPLE. So we had ZERO to do w/ building this country??? Very disrespectful. And dishonest.
But he really wanted to shout racist at Tucker so he kept going back to demographic transformation. The reason is Tucker's obviously more skillful orator than Cenk.
Tucker's first response: We need to follow the law and not let these people in. Cenk: The law actually states that we are supposed to hear people seeking asylum out and give them a fair hearing instead of rejecting them out of hand. Tucker afterwards: Here are the reasons we should not follow the law and not let these people in.
So what. Tucker is perfectly consistent. He is saying: A) Laws on immigration need to be enforced (we have approximately 20 million illegal aliens already here) B) Laws against unchecked immigration are not some irrational, "racist" positions, here is why we need to control our borders... Did you actually listen to his reasoning behind why we need to severely restrict immigration compared to our current situation or is that beyond your capacity for a pre-programmed NPC?
Based on the clip I watched, both men talk sense and allowed one another to complete their thoughts. Both had good points and neither destroyed the other.
As an Italian American, and I have entirely embraced my Italian heritage, I take personal offense to this guy Cenk trying to win over Italians by talking so much about Italian immigrants of the early 20th century. I know exactly how and why my family came to the USA and I can say with 100% fact that they wanted to be Americans in every way possible. My Great Great Grandfather was denied citizenship 3 times only he was tenacious about acquiring USA citizenship legally and finally did on the 4th time after 21 years. And that was after he fought for the USA in WWI and WWII. That does not happen today by any immigrants and everyone knows it. And what Italians were escaping around 1900 was the clear onslaught of big government after the unification of the localized Italian kingdoms in 1865, after that centralized and bloated government encroached into every aspect of life of the Italian people. Just like what is happening today in the USA.
im mostly italian also and would not want italians coming across the border illegally or legally seeking bullshit asylum cases either. you cannot compare a country that was looking for cheap labor a century ago to modern times usa. its just not a valid arguement. it was less popualated and less modern and we had far less problems. and our latino population is actually very high so for idiots to say its a racist thing is simpy not true and we in fact have a huge percentage of latinos that we let in legally over the years. you simply cease to have a country when you let hoards of people come rushign over your border. we have one of the most desirable countries in the world and simply wanting a better life is not a case for asylum..nor is being in a poor country. sorry people but you cannot make laws with your hearts.
@@jamesmax6303 Amen brother. I have been saying the same thing for years now. They way I say it is- You can't compare an era when a country needed immigrants to grow and build to an era when the country no longer needs resources from the outside to build and grow.
Don't pay too much attention or take to heart what Cenk says. He's a blowhard that likes to spew "liberal" talking points for the sake of it. I grew up with first and second generation Italians in New Jersey, and I loved their culture, work ethic and family unity. Not one of them came here illegally and every one of them worked hard and prospered.
This was actually a pretty civil debate between different opposing views. All of the people obsessed with who destroyed who are either missing the point of the debate or don’t care what the other side has to say at all.
But is it true? Are you even allowed to ask whether it's true, being the neo-Marxist zombie you are? Did Tucker's obvious point about the value of labor plummeting (and its only going to get worse) sink into your little brain at all?
@@curiaregis9479 wow slow down there buddy. I actually disagree with the statement (and with Cenk & the young Turks), I just recognize how well said his point was. Don't be so toxic
Cenk replies direct, thorough, and to the point hitting core issues with facts. Carlson's replies were mostly baseless ramblings that often began with "I guess"..."Well maybe"..."I don't know". And when Cenk walks him back to challenge what he previously said he goes "Uh, well maybe I spoke too fast". Much respect Cenk 💯
I noticed that Carlson rambled a lot. While that's not necessarily an issue, a lot of those ramblings were assertions that it several cases were not based on evidence or historical reality. Two that I remember straight off, the C19th immigration topic and the shared cultural identity topic. Both could've been ripped to shreds by someone who understands the history and socio-economic geography of the USA and Europe over the last three centuries. The fact that this didn't happen just reinforces that events such as these are little more than grandstanding opportunities for those involved and not genuine intellectual forums.

My single greatest concern over this debate comes from the majority of the comments I see. These gentlemen were able to have a healthy debate. It's scary just how much people had decided which way they were going to lean before ever even listening to them talk. Open your minds. Neither side has all of the answers. Once you have closed yourself to the possibility that you might be wrong you are no better than sheep.
The problem with Tucker Carlson is that he doesn't have the balls (or financial incentive) to stay true to himself. Deep down he may have a reasonable belief system but that's not what he espouses on Fox 95% of the time
@Surfdude12 1 He spews propaganda for conservative agendas every night too. He disregards facts on many topics, misrepresents the opposing side by presenting the craziest basket cases, and supports misinformation. That was amazing. Tucker Carlson can't make a coherent argument to save his life but Cenk got him to publicly agree with him a lot. Cenk asked him a lot of really great tough questions and did it in a way that the lay person could understand. if anyone's mind changed from that debate it would have been a republicans.
It turns out that Tucker is a progressive. This was not a debate. He (Tucker) kept close to his opponent's ideology instead of his hollow news show's constant frown.

I wanted to applaud BOTH participants in this very vigorous, impassioned but RESPECTFUL and largely articulate debate. In general I do not count myself as a particular fan of either Cenk or Tucker as I consider them to both be more inflammatory than informative but I was extremely impressed with the respect each demonstrated and will most certainly give them more attention going forward. While I wasn't moved to change my position on anything immediately, they both gave me some areas to reconsider my own perspectives, such as immigration and campaign finance. Thank you gentlemen ... this is what free speech and Unites States Democracy is all about.

Who won this debate? The American people. Great conversation. Neoliberalism is the problem. Worker co-ops are the solution.
Whoa, that's actually socialism and not welfarism. Most Americans get the two confused.
Alan Watts Audio Collection Worker co-ops, consumer co-ops (more credit unions and breaking up the big banks), and volunteer work. That’s what will build our economic morale.
That's what a debate looks like when done by adults. Take notes children.
It was a very respectable debate and both people did well. Tucker won in my opinion.

I just discovered these politico debates and they are fantastic. I watch The Young Turks everyday so you can imagine how I feel about Tucker Carlson, so imagine my surprise when I actually agreed with him a few times. It's awesome to here from both sides of the political spectrum and it's civil and educational.
They had a discussion, not the usual political name-calling, gaslighting cat fight, that's why I posted it..
You should watch Tucker Carlsons show…. Not just what his enemies say about him.
Note to Politicon... 1st thing I recognized immediately: Please get a better sound operator to tweak the sound correctly for clarity.
Tucker makes sense like always.
Tucker: “So maybe you can Change My Mind” Cenk: *PTSD of every time Steven Crowder has approached him*

Yet Steven Crowded is scared of Sam Seder and keeps running away last minute from debates
@@johnwhitaker3371 So Crowder is a little bitch.

What's up with all the hate? Tucker and Cenk agreed on most things in this debate. It makes you wonder if people even pay attention to what people are actually saying or if they're just listening to their guy's talking points.
We know the other point of view that's WHY we oppose it! Really?
I'm listening to like 30 minutes of them disagreeing on immigration. The hell are you on about?
Annette Elbaz what?
"Wages have been stagnant, productivity is not. If you're looking to see who took your wages, don't look down look up."
Cenk, I'm an audio engineer looking for work... just sayin'
I don't know if that was tyt or politicon but damn was it bad.
That was politicon's fault.
*AMEN*

Idk what you are talking about.

Everybody on Fox News plays a character! when you put them in a setting like this one forcing them to have an intelligent conversation with somebody on the other side they are totally different human beings! I'm watching this like wait is this really Tucker Carlson from Fox News! Lol
He might think he does but his viewers don't and he doesn't admit it on his show. It's deeply reckless
Most of what he says on fox is just too insane to be real, I was surprised that he wasn’t that bad on this
In this debate he seems more human. But on fox he says what ever the right wants to hear to get more rating which proves he just like a lot of greedy people he'll sell out just for money. Which is the problem with some people they will say and do whatever that puts more money in their pockets with disregard of it being the wrong thing to do. Better to be poor and honest than rich and going against what you believe to be the right thing to do in disregard of your fellow human being
Tucker is right, and the argument on the other side is so condescending!
Young Turks founder is a twisted leftist political hack
Some great points on both sides actually.... and that is the important thing to take from this. Don't blindly give your loyalty to the left or the right, give your loyalty to the best ideas.
Some people cant see past their bias. It really is a mental illness

people who say “tucker DESTROYED cenk” or vice versa are missing the point. tucker is not that kind of guy. he actually goes into it with an open mind and defends his points with actual reasoning instead of sophistry and fast talking to intimidate and appear more intelligent (gee who could i possibly be referring to). tucker doesn’t set out to destroy his opponent. he sets out to understand and learn while explaining his own side. people focus to much on “winning” or appearing to win than on actually having a productive conversation that accomplishes something.
Yes
What he said
Great point!
"The point of a debate is not to win."
I believe Tucker is mocking Cenk at times.
No, he didn't call him racist. He just implied he was racist and that what he was doing is the same thing that the Nazi's did. Totally different.
They have done segments in the pass, that they outright implied he was racist.
But he really wanted to shout racist at Tucker so he kept going back to demographic transformation. The reason is Tucker's obviously more skillful orator than Cenk.
Cenk takes a total L, as usual.
He is saying:
A) Laws on immigration need to be enforced (we have approximately 20 million illegal aliens already here)
B) Laws against unchecked immigration are not some irrational, "racist" positions, here is why we need to control our borders...
Did you actually listen to his reasoning behind why we need to severely restrict immigration compared to our current situation or is that beyond your capacity for a pre-programmed NPC?
You just said that "following the law" and "here's why we shouldn't follow the law" are consistent positions, and I am pre-programmed. Kay.
