Let me tell you a story you may find interesting about Detroit in 1959. I remember a man named Berry Gordy who opened up a recording studio at his home, rock&roll was new to young adults. Berry brought in all the blues and soul singers to the area. We would park out front and move to the sounds. All the local groups male and female would come to perform. We would dance in the streets. What a time to grow up.I know the history of rock and soul music.

I met Archie Bell in Munich in 1968 when he was stationed in Germany in the Army and I was an exchange student. He was on a weekend leave and performing at a disco called Blow Up. He sat with me and talked for quite awhile. He seemed homesick and lonely. A very nice guy and a talent.

I love it too, I was born in 1961 , so this was awesome I saw all of them on Ed Sullivan and the party was definitely on - I was buying and picking out my own records at 3 years old - true story, on one of my record buying trips I met John Kennedy’ Secretary at the record store in Dc and I got invited to the White House !!

Motown is what I call music. We used to get down and dance and have clean fun. There was a lot of love and good times. Bring back the good days when people got along. There wasn't violence and hate. It was good times.
What's sad is that Motown as well as many musicians left the church for the offerings of fame and Fortune.
They went from being worshipers in church to be an enticed away from God. There's a reason Jesus Christ said what's the profit a man to gain the whole world to lose their own soul

I remember being a little toddler living on 'Grand Blvd W.' (in the heart of Detroit), and hearing my parents, uncles/aunts, and older cousins playing these great Motown Sound classics. I have to admit, the 80's was my favorite sound. But, I just started to appreciate my Motown heritage more recently.

Am I the only You Tuber, that misses this, forsooth, R&B sound? The back-in-the-day, R&B touches a person's soul. Especially, when you hear the songs via the score of a tear-jerking movie: (i.e., "Collie High")!

I was about 10 when heard Supremes. I ordered albums from the club where you get ‘free’ albums. I did not realize you needed to commit to buying & ‘paying’ for certain amount. My dad sent them back, but when got a job at 14, I bought all my Motown favorites!!! Nothing like it!! NOTHING! ❤️💕❤️

My mom's English wasn't that great when i was a kid but this is what she brought me up on all the greatest music of all time ..I can remember all the people dancing in the living room as well as still harmonizing at the corner of my street . so by that time i was probably 11 i knew every word of every song that came on .. i just past it down the line to my kids lol so when they anything from the past comes on the radio and they start singing my friends are like what wait you guys know these songs lol

I agree with you Vince Kuznicki. I grew up listening to this music and I grew up in the far corner of the United States; the Pacific Northwest (an hour south of Seattle). This music is the "foundation" for a lot of artists. Those who gave this music a thumbs down, truly have no clue what "real music" is all about.

I am so pleased with this mix...I was 19-20 years old when Motown took off and was newly living in Washington D.C. where I met thousands of young men going to Vietnam. We listened and danced to early rock-n-roll and blues which helped our young men build their courage to face their fate. Of course we grew with the music industry to include hard metal rock which epitomized the war, but Motown was our background and solace. Thanks for the memories.😊❤
