As I age and watch content creators, I realize that contentment is so important in life. The amount of moves and must haves, I ask, when is it ever enough? Best wishes on whatever you decide. 💖

Kids grow up WAY too fast! We regret many weekends we spent working on our house rather than savoring every moment of family time. Your home is fantastic, you’ve put so much of yourselves in it & this next phase of parenting is a BUSY, crazy, fun one that passes too quickly. Encouraging you to enjoy a season of stillness in your home with those sweet girls. Ours just turned 21 & graduates from college next week - I swear she was just in preschool! 🥰

    • @asideofsweet

Yes when both parents work a full time job, like they do with remodeling and content creation, it definitely takes them away from time spent parenting. It's important they don't just do this for fun but it's actually a chosen career. :)

Oh I feel this! During our kids' childhoods, we undertook moving twice, finishing the basement, adding an addition, and a partial kitchen reno. While it wasn't as time consuming as some other projects, you're right - it goes by sooooo fast! Now that they're both grown, we're going to take on some bigger projects that I'm happy we waited on til our kiddos were out of the house. There's a season for everything including a time to be still.

STAY WHERE YOU ARE! Your home is stunning. It offers the stability that your children require. . A home on the water is not the way to go - mosquitoes, flooding, etc. And the two of you need to appreciate what you have and stop grasping for MORE.. Focus on your family and an attitude of gratitude would serve you well. A family that is calm, caring and free of chaos is priceless.

Moving for the sake of moving every two or so years? I agree with another poster's comment about 'contentment'. Without contentment, you will always be looking over your shoulder because someone else will always have a better house, boat or better-looking spouse. Always worth thinking about your kids and what this programmes in them.

    • @timinerie
      @timinerie 6 місяців тому +9

Agreed! What mentality does this create in the eyes of their kids. “We always need more”, “I need more to be happy”. Just admit it’s not a “dream home” and say it’s to leverage more subscribers. With that said, you have amazing design skills and talent.

There are people who love the challenge whether that means moving every two years, or dumping a business and restarting another, etc. It's the thrill of the hunt. It's not so much about contentment but more about being bored and needing/wanting the challenge. There are people I have met in my life that do this all the time. They will buy a home, fix it up beautifully and then sell it. They make. a ton of money doing it and their kids are fine with having a new room every couple of years. That wouldn't be the way I would want to live but it's not up to me to judge it. As long as I don't pay their bills, they can do what they want and it is not my business to call them out or tell them how to parent their children.

    • @mariel7964

As a daughter of a designer who flipped houses, it was not easy growing up and moving so many times. It seems your children are so happy in your beautiful home that fits your family perfectly. Also, in regards to having Hashimotos myself- I don't do well living next to water as I do now. Winters are colder. I think your health will benefit more living in your current digs. Just a hunch.

Moves can be hard on kids. Every few years going to a new school and having to find a new set of friends can be daunting. That needs to be considered, and I’m sure they will, but it’s about more than just having new content to film.

Look at but how many times will
You be in it? I bet your children would be heartbroken if you told them
You were thinking of moving. It’s harder on kids than you think. But I did enjoy seeing that house . I wasnt crazy about all the steps and levels and it just didn’t have the same incredible feel your house has. Well comparing the two. It has a lake but the curb appeal is much better with your current house. The back yard is better minus the road behind it. The grounds of your current house is more polished and beautiful.
Exterior they are very similar except the 3rd floor
I really like the ceiling height in your current house and your kitchen is so beautiful.
Ceilings seem taller in your current house and I like your living room better. Your house layout flows better and the rooms seem bigger

This was so neat, to feel like we’re all experiencing this along with you!! But as I was watching, I felt so heavy, my heart ached. And then, when Chris said he felt heavy as you walked through, I was just mind blown. It’s a gorgeous house, and a dream location, but the Modern Colonial feels like your home. I hope that makes sense. I’m sure you could make The House on the Lake feel like your home as well, but there was just something that felt, stressful or, maybe overwhelming is a better word, about that house. And when I watched your 2024 House Tour, I felt at peace watching you walk through it. As in, I could feel YOUR peace. That’s maybe a weird thing, and I may be in the minority here, but I love that you called it “the house that didn’t get away,” and are thinking you’ll stay in the MC. I know you don’t need any validation or need my two cents, but I just thought it was cool that I had the same exact feeling Chris and you both mentioned. Thanks for taking us along for the ride! Oh, and I am really enjoying your vlogs on UA-cam! It’s such cool bonus content, like your own tv show. Super impactful and fun, feels very “insider scoop,” the way stories do on Instagram, but somehow more as well! 💗

I started following you at the same time as I started pursuing my doctorate. At that time, I bought a house that I thought would be easy to renovate. unfortunately, we got scammed and we were deceived and I was unable to focus on my home and my doctorate, so I decided to stop the renovation project in order to finish the thesis. by the end of this month, in three weeks from now, I will defend my dissertation. I spent 4 years waiting for the time I can resume my dream home reno. I lived with your videos and photos on UA-cam and Instagram for long nights, reading about phenomenology and philosophy and peeking at your videos and photos. I was in love with the Black House very much and was sad when you left it, but I also enjoyed all the details you shared in this house, especially the pool and backyard. I learned a lot from you and gained useful ideas. I will implement a number of them later when I resume work on renovating my home. Although I am sad that it will be sold, but I feel that this coincidence between your decision and the completion of my doctoral thesis is iconic, as if I was on a journey with your family. Thank you for sharing beautiful details and moments. I can't wait to see your future project. Good luck

Congratulations! In 1998 I we shared this exact experience in buying my dream home. Totally was just looking at real estate to gather ideas for building a new construction. We walked into the main foyer and when I first saw the original floors of dark green and white marble tiles I knew I was home. Our dreams can be attainable. We even drove the exact same Jeep Wagoneer, same color. We only live this life once on this earth. The years pass by quickly. Dreams do come true just believe in your feeling. Our home was a Southern Plantation Home with lake and cattle. I slept with pictures under my pillow until we closed sixty days later. Enjoy 🫶

This may be a crazy idea, but if you love your current home and it feels like home, but what your heart seems to need is the tranquility of water… maybe you find a small property on an unknown lake. You can rehab it without disrupting your life and then rent it when not in use? You surely can easily market it w the following you have and others could really enjoy it too, while having a respite space. We do this, but sadly our lake house (hunting shack) is over 1,000 miles away for where we live now so really hard to rehab, especially w five young kids. Maybe pick one just far enough away ❤

The author Dan Sullivan addresses this pitfall all the time. He says "high achievers often fall into the trap of pursuing ideals...which is a constantly moving horizon. They measure themselves forward, against what they think they should have, instead of backwards against what they were. If you focus on what you lack, you lose what you have. If you focus on what you have, you gain what you lack.
Happiness is where we start, not where we finish."
His books contain some of the most incredible, liberating revelations out there.

We're in the same boat. Do we trade out big renovated home for a a home k. 80 acres that needs work? Or be happy where we are with our 3% interest rate and pool etc. it's a hard call

If you have the desire of a new project for a new home than go for it. I think you should modernise this house, modern furniture, bold art and bright colours. It could be gorgeous, but I think it needs a lot of work. It would love to see the process 😊

Hey Julia (& Chris of course)...you are assuredly spoiled for choice, though the main issue seems to be Julia's compulsive creativity 😂
If I may, I would suggest that you stay in and enjoy your current home, and perhaps look at other places as 'spec' investments.
Midlife crises is no joke, but it passes, ask me how I know ....enjoy your family and your charmed life together🌹

I wanted you to purchase it only for the thrill of seeing what you would do with the interior. However, being how rare these types of lots are, I kind of wanted you to do a tear down and have your contractor build something amazing. Btw, I love the beautiful dynamic between you two.

No! Just no! Only thing is it has the lake…we have a huge house and a huge garden with forest and incredible views in the heart of rural Scotland that folk say is to die for. It was so hard with all the impractical space with the kids growing up, I would have given anything to have the back yard you have now, whereas what I have is like the lake house and the not being able to see my kids and where they are, especially with water! I’d be constantly worried…or I would have to spend a fortune on landscaping to make a flatter more enclosed space for my younger kids. What you have is perfect 😍

I’ve always loved window shopping houses too but, nope, nope…the house with the front office?! I mean firstly super cool. Leaving that sweeping staircase entry?! I mean the lake isn’t that cool. What mostly was great was the view but I’d prefer a much, much smaller lake house…in my opinion.

Agreed. They will do with their $ what they want. But you can buy, renovate and sell. Don't need to move their family to live in it. Moving every two years because "life is short" is just bizarre!

@@champion4000 bizarre to one person may not be bizarre to another. Good idea that they might want to renovate and sell it and not necessarily live there. I’m just thinking about that view. It would be worth it to me to have the view.

I feel sorry for this couple. There is no perfection in something beautiful. You can keep looking for perfection but nothing is ever going to be perfect. There will always be a dream home somewhere and u can keep looking for it because a dream is a dream, distant and something un-reachable.
You can make a house a home full of memories and dreams, and that is where all the joy lies. Not searching and keeping on searching for something that can never exist.

That home is 🔥, but so is yours. Is there a place in your home where you can put bookshelves above a doorway like there was here? I really loved that, too. The sitting area off the kitchen, is that called a keeping room? I’ve always wanted a home with that. It’s the perfect place for a family to hang out together, or even a couple of people, really.
