Randy, You must feel a lot better than you sound... I am loving it, "Shop Sounds to sleep by" I am feeling for you, my friend. Gary 76-Year-Old Home-Shop-Machinist in North West Arkansas
Blanchard grinders are way cool, but even cooler is having a friend who will do it for you. The local grinding shop here (Vancouver USA) has a minimum charge of $150. So far, it's been worth it, but I still need a surface grinder of my own. I used to run a 72x18 machine, but that big one in their shop is crazy big!
Almost forgot - Nice fixture table!! Rob did a great job centering that spiral pattern. You remember that 13-1/2" diameter ring on my mill, well I needed to tap 64 - 8-32 holes in it and even using a Tapmatic tapping head I started out breaking 2 taps in the first 4 holes with the 'fancy' blind hole taps and I'm like WTF? So i picked up some thread forming taps and was able to finish the other 60 holes using only one tap without a break.
Looks like taking grinding to a whole new level - expensive equipment for sure. The job on the plate looks amazing. Nice idea with the mount/base etc. Love that optical center punch - super useful.
You got an awesome fixture plate.. Just make sure you keep it protected from the elements. 👍We had a 54" chuck blanchard grinder with the segment head. Ground several hundred hours on it. Slung a part off if once, door hit me in the face busted my lip and put a 2" long gash over my eye. Got stitches and back at work in 2 hours finished my grinding job. Just got to aggressive with the down feed with the way we had to set up the odd cut die shoe... Have a bless day Randy also got the stickers today thanks
I love it Randy! Now the anxiety of that first scratch or spatter burn kicks in...... I also have a truck drum for my table (manhole sewer cover) and a wheel hub so that it can spin around.
Precision welding table, the day you need to stick or mig weld something on that beauty, don't forget to use lots of anti spatter, or the precision will fade quickly... Brian and Baily need to watch those shops with bigger stuff, that could give them ideas... 😎😉👍
Until compressor manufacturing ceased at Trane, Inc at the Tyler, TX plant, there were two Blanchard grinders making valves for the compressors. I remember the tables being 3 or 4 feet in diameter.
It was great to see those huge grinding machines, my problem is that every time I see something new like your table and vise, I want one even though I have no use for it I still want one!
This base is a Wilton Jr. base I found it on Ebay. I also made one of these setups for my son and used a PanaVise 400 base, there is a link in the description. It worked out great also. Check out the Playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLkVYuSKafn3EJZhClUmHp4jM-l9RO1Nq6Thanks.html John.
I watched you going through the painstaking beginning of when you got your plate, to edging to drilling etc. and now grinding to a great looking finish with a universal type vice setup. when you were filing the edges that ring coming off the steel, shows it is a good quality steel. Don't know about a Lullaby song, but it LOL might attract a few Wales ... LOL If it's ok to ask, how many hours have you spent on it to get it to this place of operation. AND ..... I hope you are going to cover the table when you weld on it. LOL Looks to good to weld on it. HHmmm .... Coat it with Clear Liquid Varnish then put a couple of Bourbons or beer on it .. LOL
Probably about 6 hr, edges, holes, stand, vise. Not counting the all day with the grinding 6 hr of driving etc. But yes it maybe better than A36, seems to be harder than that. i am going to pick up a welding cloth to cover. I like the bourbon idea. Thanks Ted.
I am lucky Larry it is very dry here. But I will keep in inside and just have to keep clean and maybe coated. Maybe a treated cloth cover. Thanks Larry.
You and James Kilroy need to stop with the lounge lizard music. I don't know about others, but I watch to learn and be impressed with all of the UA-cam community. The music is irritating.

Beautiful job on the welding table/fixture plate, Randy! Nice work.
It is so nice. Great work surface. Thanks Bob. I hope you are doing well.
Wow Looks great.....And thanks for that shop tour.....Hope you feel better
Fun time seeing both shops.
enjoyed...great upgrade to the plate and the shop! I had the same voice to two weeks...ugh! Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks Chuck, way better now. Have a smooth holiday.
Nice plate Randy.
Thanks Doug.
Nice table, love that vise setup.
Thanks RC. The vise works great.
Really nice. Getting ready to update my welding table.
Check out the Fireball Tools, He has some new great welding table stuff and great pricing. Thanks Tom.
@@RRINTHESHOP will do.
Glad to see the vice off the morgue table... doesn't look like you are working on Frankenstein's monster.
Morgue table is a great surface. The new welding table is also great. Thanks Nick.
Plate turned out good. Should be very useful 👊👊
Thank you Bill. Used a few times already.
Very nice. The angle plate i made, was Blanchard ground on all sides . Wd40 and a stone did a nice job cleaning it up.
Thanks Doug. Yep I will protect it.

Very nice RandyThanks for taking us along for the ride.Gary
Thank you Old Iron.
Sweet plate .... enjoy
Very nice. Thanks Alan.
Great thing fixture plate for the mill Randy, use to do Blanchard grinding in Detroit, myself too does a magnificient job.
Sure is a great way to make something flat, came out great. Thanks Troy.
Thanks Randy for the video and shout our.
I wouldn't need your album of shop sounds they're already playing in my head.

I am going to get a couple of the thread forming ones now. Were you doing 75% threads?
Looks like taking grinding to a whole new level - expensive equipment for sure. The job on the plate looks amazing.
Nice idea with the mount/base etc.
Love that optical center punch - super useful.
For sure Chris, very nice to work on. Thanks Chris.

Ouch. Thanks Anthony.
Great video Randy, Awesome shope tours and now I know where to go for large plate grinding!
Thanks Ray. Great grinding shop, very cool to see.
I can't wait to see you moving that new big grinder into your shop!
Yeah wouldn't that be nice. You could use it. You could grind lathe beds all day long. Thanks Brian.
Sux being sick, get well soon Randy!
Sure does. All good now.
Incredible! I have a 18”x34”x2 piece of plate slated for the same thing, great motivation.
This is a great table, i love it. Thanks and Merry Christmas richharr.
Nice fixture plate Randy...it will suck to have to weld on that thing....make another one for welding...lol
No welding to it, and protection when welding over it.
The table looks like art now! Love the optical center punch, it's one of those tools that is just fun to use! Thanks Randy!!!!
It is beautiful, hardly want to use it. The optical CP worked great, being magnetic is slick. Thanks John.
That is a Rolls Royce quality welding table. Great build there.
Thank you Harold, Very nice table.
4:06 whoa! That's a lot of money there...
Thanks Jochem. Came out great.
Very nice !
Thanks Mike.
Really nice plate! Wish I had it...
Thanks Dave. It is a great work surface.
That's a really nice fixture plate. With all the hand filing sounds, was that song titled "A Tribute to Tom Lipton"?
We will need more of a whiney sound to add. Thanks Mike.
can't wait for that album to come out!... will it make the top ten??
Soon Soon. Thanks Mike.
Top ten for some to be divorced machinists
I love it Randy! Now the anxiety of that first scratch or spatter burn kicks in...... I also have a truck drum for my table (manhole sewer cover) and a wheel hub so that it can spin around.
Nice. The heavy drum is perfect. Thanks Anthony.
Nicest welding table I ever seen. Might be to nice.
Pretty nice. Thanks Randy.

i am going to use a cover of some sort to protect it Pierre. Thanks stay warm.
Love the spiral surface finish you get with a Blanchard grinder.
Came out beautiful. Thanks Steven.
That came out REALLY nice.
Super nice. Thanks Greg. Check out Fireball Tools new fixture plate, very good value and pricing, excellent product.

Cool, it is a great way to quickly make something flat. Thanks Roy.
The plate looked good before but a thing of beauty after the Blanchard worked it over. Nice Randy...
Real nice John, best looking tool in the shop.
It was great to see those huge grinding machines, my problem is that every time I see something new like your table and vise, I want one even though I have no use for it I still want one!
It is ok to want, I have that problem all the time. Thanks Glyn.
Great quality videos as usual Randy. Ill sure have some of those clamps, they are quite nice. And that table is a pretty addition to your shop
Thank you Nelo, These clamps are great.
great to have friends in the right places
Worked out great, very lucky. Thanks Ray.
Nice plate!
For your new album, be sure to include a couple of tracks of fingernails on a chalkboard and a dentist's drill....
New members to the band now. Thanks Joe.
Great video. Where did you get that swivel base for the vise ?

Blanchard work tables are great. Wondering how flat it is? Did thay give any specs? Mine is .0007. Use for setup and scribe. Close enough.
I did not check it, the operator who ground it checked and said it was with in 0.001". Good enough. Thanks Tom.
Oi nossa você tem 3 brigtport .😁 que bom eu tô tentando ter uma fresadora

Fixed yer plate..... nice job👍🏻 I like the mag optical center punch. Unlike mine, you can let go of it to change over to the punch.
First time I used it worked great, the magnetic feature is perfect. Thanks CR.
Yuchol, from Woods Creek Workshop. He's got a real nice channel.
Yes he does I enjoy his channel. Thanks Michel.
Rustinox I love you bro 😁
Don't be a hogging RR now Yuchol !
Yuchol is great. Love his humor. Thanks Don, Happy New Year.
I recommend Boeshield T-9; thick on the bottom, thin on top. IMHO it's "good stuff".
I will check that out. Thanks Herbert.
That sure would make a pretty coffee table, as long as you didn't run into it. :-)
Yes it would. We have a granite one now i made many years ago. Thanks Pat.
You made a mistake by telling me that you were filming. 🤷🏻♂️ I wish I had a friend that would grind a plate for me. Heck, I wish I had a friend 😆

how much does blanchard grinding cost?
I do not know currently. ypu will have to check in your area. Thanks.
nice plate but now you are going to be paranoid about weld splatter😤
No not at all. I just wont weld on it. Thanks Chris.

Morning Randy! Great video but now you're going to get phone calls from Brian Block wanting to buy that 4' x 16' grinder.
Morning Craig. That grinder is huge.
My first time seeing that ball/socket 'thing' lol.
Where to get it and how it works (that lever pushes the ball) ?
Works Great. Ebay. Thanks you.
Nice, Just don't drop it on your toe'
No dropping, heavy.
Hey Randy, I would really like to have one of your coffee cups. If you don't have any new ones send me the one you are using.
Hopefully everyone wants one. Thanks Pat.
How are you going to protect the plate from rusting?
PS: shameless plug: my son and I enjoy your personalized scribes!
I am lucky Larry it is very dry here. But I will keep in inside and just have to keep clean and maybe coated. Maybe a treated cloth cover. Thanks Larry.
