Can STALKER 2 Live Up To Expectations...?

- STALKER 2 has been a long time coming. Like.. a LONG time. It's been cancelled at least twice, revived, then suffered all kinds of setbacks ranging from IP issues to the country GSC Gameworld is based in suffering from a military invasion. But despite these setbacks, what we've seen from Stalker 2 so far look amazing. Here's what I think about the expectations that have been set for the game, and why I am still excited for the sequel to my most beloved game franchises.

I think stalkers story was always about deep lore and searching for secrets, which is why the story is so light. You have to look for it as you do anything in the zone.
The storys gotta be good still though; people dont give SoC or CS enough credit. Its all quite intriguing the first time around and not everybody sees the twists coming
As long as they nail the sounds and lighting so we get some good athmosphere in the game i'm all good.
One thing you forgot to mention is that Stalker 2 is going to be a seamless open world, no more of those pesky loading screens between areas. That, above anything else, has got me so excited to just hop in and get lost.
Didn't even know that or really think of it. It'll be really interesting to see how they connect areas we're already familiar with. Imagine approaching the red forest or seeing Pripyat or the CNPP in the distance knowing that's your destination. I hope it's big enough to feel like a proper journey but not too big as to feel empty.
Really hoping fast travel isn't a requirement for making reasonable progress. Stalker is one of the few games I don't mind walking even though I've been through the same areas over and over. A proper open world will make that experience even better. If there is fast travel I wonder if it's gonna be more to the tune of Skyrim or if you'll need to use guides for a price like in the original games. Either way I intend to travel on foot my first playthrough. I'm gonna take every opportunity to savor this game so if I gotta pad it myself I will.
As much as I'm hopeful I think the rise of the Anomaly/GAMMA modpacks have given people a wrong impression about STALKER. I think this will be more similar to an updated ver. of the original games and not much past that. I see so many hardcore GAMMA players being hyped thinking it would have weapon parts and individual stuff to repair etc but I really dont think so at all. Luckily since they did say that they'll fully support Modders, The game over the courses of 1-2yrs will probably eventually turn into those hardcore GAMMA players wet dreams
I only played GAMMA but I am aware that it's more akin to tarkov than vanilla stalker.
Whatever the result im sure im gonna be surprised with how much they acomplished after losing so much
Hopefully Mod support will be as big as it is for the old titles.
Can't wait for a freeplay mod
It will be bigger.
@@natalialobo3766 very, very doubtful.
If company itself makes games like these then I'm not sure why you want any mod support.
@@subhajit1128 Mod Support increases X potentially the amount of time folks will be happy with the game for the further. Stalker without mods is no stalker, same goes for fallout.
I think the STALKER genre is another of those few, very original series of games that comes very close to making you almost believe it could be real. The early games were somewhat crude, yet the dealing with the anomalies and artifacts was very interesting and truly unique. Personally, I'm hoping for some great new lore and hopefully not another rehash of things done or explored before. Of course phenomenal graphics and sound are expected. That is after all, the modern standard, which recent games have set a very high bar. If we hope for the best, plan for something as buggy as Bethesda generates, and be patient and open-minded, we should be able to enjoy this game. Once the Modders get a hold of it, there will be new ways to play the game for another decade...
I'm hyped for this game i'm just worried it will need a lotta community patches.
Yah good old broken soc on launch 😀
Say goodbye to tarkov, hello stalker
Ik this is probably a joke but it depends on if the player want aliens in their realistic-ish world
@@alpheus_land true but i don't think eft can die easily
They have nothing in common with the exception of taking place in an exclusion zone and being inspired by Strugatsky brothers.
@@dogus4728 Since when do games have to be in the same genre to ditch one for the other? I've just about completely given up on Tarkov after this patch and I've been having way more fun with a similar feeling playing Stalker mods with some vanilla here or there. Finished my GAMMA playthrough and I'm back to vanilla to refresh on the story beginning with Clear Sky. Insurgency Sandstorm is my other Tarkov detox game and scratches the gunplay itch. Neither play like Tarkov yet both together have entirely replaced it for me.
@@MintyLime703 That's called giving up on the game not replacing it.
It can live up to it's expectations if the perspective is from someone who just finished Call of Pripyat. wish everyone would just discard the idea of it being Misery/Anomaly & GAMMA 2. what i think it definitely needs though is a good mod support like it's previous 3 games and it will satisfy both the old and new fans.
I dont know if its because ive been burnt so many times before now but i just cant get excited for stalker 2 or any game anymore and when i see anything being put out by developers i just feel really cynical and assume its all scripted gameplay and bullshots, stalker 2 just looks to be to good to be true hope im wrong.
Yeah all the new games lately seem pretty mediocre at best like mw2 or the new battlefield. If stalker 2 is really as good as it looks then it has the potential to be a very good game
It's just going to be metro 3
I’m not a fan of the multiplayer mode but what could spice it up is a horde defence mode where you have to defend against mutants, and regular team deathmatch with anomalies and random emissions happening that force you to change the way you play.
really excited for this game bro i played all of the stalkers + anomaly a few times and this will be a breath of fresh air for me
Yes
EDIT: Going deeper into this video, being a fan of Shadow of Chernobyl as that is one of my favorite games of all time and something I've played a lot over the years, you can definitely one shot most human enemies and sometimes even mutants. Headshots on humans and shotguns on mutants work wonders!
as long as its faithful to the originals i will be happy. dont want a rip off tarkov, far cry, or metro
Tarkov and Stalker complement each other beautifully. They both inspire each other, and that can only be good for both games.
@@jonesdan85 no it itsnt. not everyone likes tarkov rip off mods like gamma and anomoly. the original games are not hardcore and stalker 2 shouldnt be either. how about actually going back and playing the originals to remember what stalker truly is since a lot of you people seem to think anomoly or gamma is what stalker is
@@reethardio6432 Are you saying tarkov hasn't been inspired by Stalker? Go back and check your facts first. Everything about Tarkov is Stalker all over without the anomalies. Tell me I'm wrong. I will wait.
@icewall oakum And yes I have played the original Stalkers, and Anomaly. I'm currently playing GAMMA right now. And I play EFT.
@@jonesdan85 stalker is a story focused shooter with a cosmic horror element to it and realism isnt even close to its focus. tarkov is realistic. and is an exteaction shooter. they are very fucking different lmao
The real question is "Can you live up to your promise to finish your "complete" STALKER lore video and actually do one about Clear Sky?"
That is what i want to know an answer to.
I hope the movement and aiming isn’t as clunky as Metro. This will be the first stalker I will be playing on console.
As someone who has been waiting for STALKER 2 I can't wait for it's release but at the same time kinda sad that one of the devs won't be with us to witness it.
He wasn't involved in STALKER 2.
Great video, are you going to make a Dealers of Tarkov on Lightkeeper? That would be awesome.
Yes
The story is one thing, I just hope the mechanics work well. That’s what mainly draws me to STALKER (obviously I enjoy the story too).
Small correction; in the screenshot at 2:28, the gun held was not the Springfield M1A, although it does look pretty similar. I’m relatively sure it’s an SDM M25 with a few changes
I played the first Stalker the day the DVD was on the store shelves, I went to the shop closer to release date to check if It came to the store already, I asked the sales guy to call me as soon as he will know the date when they will receive It.
I don’t care about a couple of glitches here and there, every game has It. Mainly I’m interested in the atmosphere of the zone, also the story, but I think It’ll be tough to bring something unexpected or exclusive to the story considering how many mods there are, how many fanfic stories and theories there were even before the old Stalker 2 was cancelled.
I played call of Prypiat maybe 4 years ago and was surprised of how much they achieved with a game engine that was built maybe at the same time the first Cryengine was built. Writing all those stories, all those dialogues for the npcs is a lot of work, It’s surprised me how good the lighting was and I found out they tried to implement something like ray trancing for shadows with their X-Ray engine.
In the gameplay trailers the ui in bottom left looks oddly familiar, isnt it the same as the tarkovs healt menu?
YES!!!
I hope they do and if they need more time i hope they will take it. I only recently began exploring the stalker iceberg with GAMMA so my expactations are pretty high. And yes I am aware that it's nowhere near vanilla stalker gameplay feel wise.
I wish you are right mate, because i saw intels talking about december '23
Yeah the bolt carrier on the left was thought to give games a more "cinematic" feel with casings flying about and the carrier slamming back and forth. Personally I don't care for it but I honestly don't hate it. It's interesting at the least and for me it's one of the defining features of vanilla gunplay. I won't miss it in Stalker 2 though. We've been spoiled by all the incredibly detailed models and animations we've gotten in recent years with mods and other games.
I'm sure weapon damage will scale with difficulty setting.
i relly hope enemies dont become sponges
It never has before so I don't know why they'd start now. That myth has been dead and buried for a while now.
i have over 400 hours on old stalkers and i gone trough anomaly fully like 3times and i can say that i enjoy a lot more anomaly gunplay then that of old games
Curious what makes you think the game may come earlier than Dec 2023? I really hope it does.
I really hope my device will be able to run it atleast at minimum :D
I really hope the game doesn't get delayed again
Idc of they need more time I am more than willing to give it to them I just can't deal with a stupid rushed and buggy mess again. I rather have the most complete stalker they can provide.
I think absolutely that it can. GSC Game World is such a good dev studio.
Please more EFT , the gun guide was awesome I love the lore videos too
Game that has my most attention. My expectations are still low though because the footage I am seeing of STALKER 2 is by far the highest fidelity of any game ever released. There simply is an abundance of detail and attention to every aspect. It seems a long stretch to accept that any game can achieve this level of polish for an open world. It's really something else.
"STALKER 2 is by far the highest fidelity of any game ever released". Yea.... No. Not even close. Maybe if the last game you've played was over a decade ago.
@@Tixbomber Give me an example of something that is higher technical fidelity, this game offers a full blown raytraced simulation.
@@AdiusOmega Bahahahaha! YOU don't even have an example to state your case! You've seen some video clips from a game that hasn't even released yet. YOU CLAIM (not them) a "full blown raytraced simulation". Too bad there isn't any hardware in existence, that could handle that. You'd be getting 30fps (maybe) at 1080p with a 4090, using DLSS to help. So just stop. It's not gonna be some graphical masterpiece. The Forest already blows it away visually. Just by using "super accurate and representative" video clips as my argument (like you do apparently).
Btw, GSC games has NEVER stated, nor even implied, "it's a full blown raytraced simulation". It's not, lol. The game SUPPORTS raytracing. DXR at that. Which isn't even "raytracing", and can't even be compared to tensor core based raytracing (aka REAL ray tracing. Since it's doing ACTUAL pathtracing computation). GTFOH with your fanboy nonsense.
Red dead redemption 2, maybe.
If they dont have a difficulty mode that has realistic damage thats a deal breaker for me.(at least until it gets modded out) They don't need to have limb health or anything like that but If they don't take a couple of the lessons learned an anomaly and implement them I'm going to be deeply disappointed.
People need to temper expectations here. I don't doubt it'll be an amazing game, but sometimes people just expect a fantasy. Also, most are used to ANOMALY by now and when heading back to a vanilla version of STALKER things will be more casual in a sense. From previous dev blogs they did mention they looked at popular mods for inspiration, so will just have to wait and see. Best way to think about it is to go play the original STALKERS and you'll get a very rough idea. Whatever it turns out to be it'll be a great game no doubt, and will be my main game for a very long time, but again people need to temper expectations.
as long as they take a page from tarkov and have weapon customization. im in. event the original stalker i was just exploring and shooting stuff.
i hope they make it so you have to figure things out by yourself and not force you into story missions or tutorials like modern AAA titles do.
Wow 😳
Probably not, everyone downloads mods for the original trilogy to make it their own.
It’ll be good enough, but people will always want something more, even if the devs incorporate a lot of these mod pack features into the game.
stalker 2 has to live up to the standered it set, it must have amazing ai, Alife system, good gunplay and a zone that makes you feel like your just a ant that isn't worth a damn, its the only way it will be considered truly stalker, because the thing that made stalker pop so far is its ability to not care about the player and make them feel like they are just another ant in a giant ant colony and that if they died no one would even notice.
3:15 the more realistic the better.
Would be so cool if mp was like tarkov
dude most people who play video games, even the hardcore, wont care about little changes in detail in guns, long as it looks overall realistic and performs as so..
most people don't like when others speak for them and make assumptions based on nothing
extraction gamemode in stalker 2 with tarkov gun modding and hunt showdown pvpve with human and mutant bosses. throw in quests and traders and you've got a recipe for success
Good review of the game. I believe that Stalker 2 will be a masterpiece and will become the game of the year.
Yeah its a real shame they aren't doing coop. I'd love to play this game with my friend.
Before I even start to watch this, Im gonna try to answer the question: probably not, but thats what the modding community is for.
An Escape From Tarkov like or even Dayz like multyplayer mod would have been so good for Stalker 2.
I'm already sad thinking about it will just be a good SP game but a mediocre MP game like every casual arena game out here.
I hope they take a big cut out of Escape from Tarkov. The realism, tense atmosphere and approach to guns.
Somehow i feel like STALKER 2 will be MORE linear than the other ones. Like Metro Exodus.
Are the devs who made Chernobylite the same who are making stalker 2?
I expect it'll be underdeveloped and unfinished, like every other game of the last few years.
👍
yay Czechia my country
1:31 which I fucking hate. I modded the ever loving piss out of CS 1.3 and 1.6 along with Condition Zero to unfuck all the models, animations, and sounds.
To this day I've never finished CoP because I can't find mods to correct the weapons. CS and CoP have said mods and they're playable. CS, with a few light mods, make that the best one in the original trilogy for me.
if on day it doesn't have bug, it's not a stalker game.
/j
STALKER 2 could not ever match the expectation of "real" gamers, because the comparison will be done with Anomaly (or even +GAMMA or +EFP etc). Those mods are realistically the equivalent of 20-30 man/years, where hundreds of dedicated developers invested all their time and passion. What it SHOULD do is - instead of focusing on monetization, bling-bling and presentation (voice acting, models and crap) - to create strong foundations in the engine itself. Anomaly always was held back by the "monolith" engine.
Imagine if all of these trailers are genuine, and when the game finally releases, it's optimized and polished. Imagine what fools AAA companies will feel like. A small team based in Ukraine made a fully functional game that looks amazing and runs great, during a fcking war in their own backyard no less!
Mhh we will see...if it sucks i'll stay with tarkov
Of course it's gonna be good. All the stalker games are fantastic..
I already want to spend all my time following other stalkers.
These trailers are showing a very concerning affinity towards scripting and in-game cinematics. That is antithetical to what this game is. STALKER is so great precisely because the Zone is the star of the game. When you start, your player is a scrub who can be killed just by stepping in the wrong direction. You’re not held by the hand by the developers and led through a linear, scripted, cinematically-infused journey. The Zone is so immersive because it never ceases and is always emergent. You can be at a merchant and hear a gunfight break out behind you simply because a pack of mutants or a hostile squad (following their own A-Life) has wandered in. When I watch the trailers, are the in-engine cinematic scripted scenes “pausing” the Zone so the developers can play out their little motion captured skits? Can they be interrupted so the A-Life can do its thing? It doesn’t look like it, and if that’s the case, it will fundamentally destroy what makes STALKER so incredible: the fact that the world doesn’t revolve around you. It doesn’t stop for you. It doesn’t care about you. It is going on all around you at all times, indifferent to your plights or status, and it is always a threat and unpredictable. Remove that, whether it be through cinematics or other, and you destroy that experience.
From what I’m seeing, STALKER 2 is being designed as a player-centric, power-fantasy, cinematically-driven experience (aka Metro) instead of a world-driven one that creates an immersive, emergent, atmospheric game world afforded by the interplay of many independent game systems playing off one another. That’s a fundamental shift in game design philosophy, and one that I suspect is being done to make the product more commercially viable and appealing for the masses. The former is what the market wants, not the latter. The original STALKER is niche in its appeal, and the majority of gamers aren’t interested in playing a game that doesn’t treat them like the center of attention.
Unfortunately, that’s _exactly_ what makes STALKER such a brilliant gem that has shined brightly above all other games so many years after its release. I’m just thankful we have the original three games with a passionate modding community behind it. I suspect after STALKER 2 releases and people recognize how inferior the game philosophy is compared to the original (and that no amount of mods can fix it), the original will continue to be modded upon for years more to come.
it will never come out
Absolutely Stalker 2 can live up to expectations 🙂🙂🙂
you clearly have no idea what made stalker, stalker
No
3:40 EFT style gunplay and mechanics in the new STALKER would be... As close to perfect as we can get (along with possibility of co-op of course).
mate. your channel is only tarkov you just gotten into doing stalker and what i'm hearing is just a bit of posing as a old stalker. SoC explained everything right the fuck away and you didn't get the lore til a few years later?
no
Just give us the game 😂 modders will do the rest
Not only an invasion of their country, but one of the main game developer falling in combat on the front lines defending Ukraine.
This is a game I will buy at full price!
I just bought the ultimate edition yesterday, got to show some support!
In 2021, on my birthday I made the decision to pre-order collector's edition of STALKER 2
And seeing as it went as it went... I do not regret it one bit
Just hoping I'll actually receive that Pre-order
im pretty sure the reason for the flipped gun models in the og games is that the modeler and or animator was left handed, so thats how he made them. but since right handed is more popular, the just flipped it
This game is gonna be #1 survival fps game
01:45 STALKER weapons are not meant to be realistic, in fact even the names are different
And GSC confirmed that there won't be co-op mode
This game looks so damn good.
simple answer - no
go back to tarkov
pls
I hope that we will be able to continue doing hour life in the zone also after finished the main quest. Because the real power in this game is simply the fact you are not the main hero of the story your are just another guy trying his luck in this wasteland.
High spectations that Stalker 2 will be a big fail and here's why:
Stalker 2 will basically be an Stalker Anomaly with Open World (no loading), multiplayer, and a slight change in history (we won't need to pick the tons of documents as in Stalker Anomaly, but we will have to return to the center of the zone). Stalker will commit the same mistake that Old games made when they came back:
1- Have heavy and "amazing" graphics, but that will make most of the players impossible to play, since their computers are not fit to run it;
2- Having amazing details but maybe a bad plot and history;
3- Being very expensive.
It would be easier if GSC bought Stalker Anomaly, and modified it to be open world, multiplayer, and have a slightly different history, having also graphics that fit for low-end PCs and a fair price (like 30$ as the original games first did).
I am DEFINTLY buying stalker 2. And i agree, look forward to it, but temper your expectations and give GSC game world as slight pass on small imperfections, as they have LITERALLY risked their lives to bring us this game. Their own people have went off to fight in the war against Russia and have lost some of their own to it and yet have STILL continued to work on Stalker 2. So they deserve every bit of respect from the gaming community and they DESERVE every dollar they get from the game, which is why i HOPE for this ONE game that people will NOT be pirating it.
We must aid the development and take up arms against Russia. It's the STALKER way.
