WIND OF TIME: An underrated Gem | STALKER Mods Review #2

- Today we're talking about Wind of Time, a mod for STALKER: Call of Pripyat.
Probably one of the best story / plot I've seen so far in a STALKER mod. If you can endure some crashes here and there, I highly recommend trying it!

Amazing Mod - feels like traveling back in time and get the old Stalker feeling back. It´s like a new game of the past, because of the different storyline and reworked locations. I love Anomaly and Gamma, but Wind of Time is kind of a more "authentic" Stalker game without 10million items, hours of crafting/sorting and english own character voice. I like the old sounds in the bar, etc. Luckily nearly no crashes for me (installed the game v1.3, then patch 15.06 and english retranslation 1.3 from dec2020 - starting the "Stalker-COP.exe" as admin).
As a Stalker since 2007 i can highly recommend this mod, too & Cheeki Breeki´s videos of course...
I'm very glad to see you do these videos. Story mods are criminally underrated nowadays.
This one is very poorly optimized.
true
Wind of Time was probably the best Stalker mod I've ever played.
It's really good that you're doing this, no one has really made these types of videos in English. (Except Floki, but he's cringe)
Glad you like it! Playing the mods fully / writing-recording videos take a long time but It's been pretty fun, gonna try to showcase some new stuff on a regular basis!
@@CheekiBreekiTv Yeah, almost all non-Russian Stalker channels are about Anomaly, so we really need this.
I'm also hoping this will inspire some future translations as well. We are really missing out on some great story mods that are either completely untranslated or have just a machine translation, like Path in the Mist, Golden Sphere, (Although I hear it's coming soon) etc...
I’m already loving this video series. I think these mod reviews are important for those rookies that aren’t fully aware of the amazing standalone/overhaul mods that exist for the Stalker games, and it helps all of us decipher which ones we’d actually want to spend time playing. This mod is definitely worth playing.
I played through quite a bit of it and I’m glad you told me there’s a new translation for it because I’m definitely going to restart so I can actually understand what the hell is going on lol. Machine translation was definitely holding it back for English speakers. I remember streaming it for my friend to watch and he asked me how I understood what they were talking about and I just said his guess was as good as mine lol (though I understood some of the context better being a veteran stalker). I usually read the dialogue text out loud in a Slavic accent and the broken English machine translation was by far the most entertaining to read lol.
I’ve just got one question, and it contains spoilers so for those who want to play it, are reading this, and don’t want anything spoiled whatsoever I recommend moving on and ignoring this last part:
So at the point in the story where the military takes all of your money when you exit Agroprom underground, how do you get all of your money back? The machine translation didn’t help worth a damn and so I looked for answers online and couldn’t find anything. I ended up just continuing the story without ever getting my money back, but I’m definitely going to restart my playthrough and I just want to know if I’ll be able to figure it out with a proper translation or if my money will just forever be gone.
There's no way to get your money back, only your items / artefacts. So better spend everything before you start this mission!
They done pulled off a Clear Sky type beat with that military robbery
Liked and another subscription for you Cheeki. As someone who's only gotten into the Stalker series within the last few months. Combing through mods for the games to find the type of stuff I'm looking for proves to be a bit painful at times and between this and the Goldsphere review it gives two great recommendations that sound right up my alley.
It would be nice if you can give some categorization of the mod platforms, like built on CoC or built on OGSR etc. Cheers! love your vids as always :D
6:54 same was in SoC and CS. You can see that this mod obviously cosplays those, though it's based at CoP platform. The animations of bandits and soldiers, the reputation and rank showing under characters portraits - it's from the SoC. The HUD and the style of the game is stylized as CS.
I got to know this game through your video, thanks for your introduction And I played this game and enjoyed it a lot
Hello Cheeki Breeki, awesome content, keep up !
**Message directly from the Wish Granter aka The Holy Monolith**
At 4:25 I laughed harder than I should have, that fall animation was amusing
I comment on this video, but I watched almost half your content already.
Stalker is still one of my favorite FPS of all time.
I haven't played it since the release of Lost Alpha back in 2015 and I'm amazed by what the modding community has done since then.
Thanks to the UA-cam algorythm, Gamma came to my attention and then your channel.
Was preparing myself to play Gamma but I heard the story wasn't that great, and it wasn't really the main focus of the mod anyway.
Finally saw you playlist for story mods, and then I knew I was gonna try them all ;)
Thanks for all you content.
I just started reviewing the "story-driven mods" and these videos take a long time to make so this playlist is pretty bare right now, but its gonna get better with time! Welcome back fellow Stalker!
Love mod reviews by you. SGM would be cool if you haven't done it already. Wind is amazing ambitious, translation and crashing ultimately killed it for me when I played a few years ago, but thanks to this I think I'll try it again 👍. Great job keep those vids coming 😀
Thanks for the great videos you're making for us!
Glad you like them!
Just finished this mod and its great. I felt like it was my first day in the zone at times and exploration and ambient are great. The story is also good and thought out, there is one konda strange bit and even that makes sense if you squint.
Maybe a little unstable but for me only a couple of crashes. Mutants maybe a little to tanky but its not a deal breaker.
All in all it was great if you are on the fence just play this you will have a great time.
Thank you! First thing I'm doing tomorrow when I get home is playing this.
The pushing the guy off a cliff is stolen from oblivion shivering isles
Other mods I would like to see reviewed:
*-Lost Alpha: DC* (heard a lot of negative things about the old versions of lost alpha but I really enjoyed the Director’s Cut, it’s definitely my favorite standalone story mod)
*-OGSE* (never played OGSR so couldn’t tell you the difference but nevertheless, a really good Shadow of Chernobyl standalone alternative)
*-Narodnaya Solyanka/Stalker Soup* (only ever played Stalker Soup and it’s riddled with bugs… I mean, anomalies. Still a really interesting mod if you don’t mind the instability)
*-Sigerous Mod, a.k.a SGM* (basically just Call of Pripyat with a hell of a lot more to see and do, there’s even some merges with Gunslinger and Misery out there, but with my experience some things inevitably broke)
*-Spatial Anomaly* (this isn’t a standalone mod, it requires you to replace vanilla Call of Pripyat, but from what I played of it, it was very intriguing. By far the most unique take on Stalker I’ve seen as you’re trapped in a spatial anomaly with other stalkers and must find your way out, a really cool story)
Anyways, these mods are the ones I’ve actually played at least a decent amount of and enjoyed. There’s so many more I’d like to try out, so I’m looking forward to seeing what other mods you review that I might take interest in. I like story mods more than sandbox mods, but I think it’s good to see a healthy mix of both. Good mod hunting, stalker
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing this!
check out cool immersive sniping in LA:DC on my channel, that's how it meant to be played IMO.
I agree though I recommend ogsr over ogse, and as for Narodnaya Solyanka the English translation is… passable and I’d honestly recommend op 2.2 over it, a lot more stable, better English translation, and generally more polish, which is quite rare for a soup mod
Lost Alpha review would be as empty as the mod itself (because the mod sucks, nothing towards to the channel)
@@OkachaWasTaken It's completely different experience, not some placeholder ordinary plot
Thank you, I've been wondering the zone aimlessly for far too long.
This looks so cool
Sounds like I need to give this one a go. I'm not afraid of bug and crashes, they're just part of the fun of playing Stalker.
That's the spirit! :D You wont be disappointed
waw looks very scary! nice showcase.
Your videos are always very helpful, but I always have problems leveling factions or shifting the reputation in such a way that enemies may become neutral or friends. Especially if you can't go the direct way, but you would have to do it through another faction. Maybe that would be a video idea?
For me HD models add-on was causing most of crashes, apart from that Wind of Time is really good. Currently playing Road To The North
Hi, great video series. Ive always wanted a high quality video series about stalker mods.
What do you think of Lost Alpha? I know this mod is pretty well known, but people's opinions on it differ a lot.
Last time I played was ages ago, I need to try it again to make a real opinion on it!
@@CheekiBreekiTv Nice. Looking forward to it.
I played it last year with the latest version and I really liked it. So refreshing having all new areas. And the problem that most people had with it, being too empty, are totally fixed in newer versions.
I tried to help Lenya Gloomy but the scientists wouldn`t cooperate
Installed it yesterday. Its fun and runs great too!
did you get to Dead City or Pripyat? if so please tell me how, thanks
@@exodusorange3888 Unfortunately i didn't get very far. Sorry bro :(
I'm really interested in this mod, tried it a long time ago but the crashes and the horrible translation kept me away until I forgot all about it. Can you be a bit more specific about the crashes? Does it occur often, are they predictable, are they just crashes into Window or do they restart your PC? Things like that.
Thank you so much for all the time you are taking bringing these mods to us, I know you only played on easy because of time constraints,
Cheers.
PS: Heard you were French. For some strange reason, I thought you were Serbian, lol!
Crash are pretty random, hard to pinpoint exactly where they come from, just drop you back to desktop. I'd say maybe 1 crash an hour if you're unlucky, but its less frequent generally. It's not super bad but just wanted to warn people.
I'll have a guide / walkthrough / troubleshooting video coming out soon, probably Monday/Tuesday if I have time to finish it!
I've been playing GAMMA Ironman (and dying constantly in hobo phase) for so long, that I forgot how good a well done story would feel.
I've enjoyed my time with Wind of Time, at least for each hour I could play before crashing...😂 But regardless it is a lot of fun. Very cool story mode and maps.
are crashing commons in this mod or rarely?
You should maybe try a mod called NA51, it has a massive map and is stand alone. It also has some very interesting weapons and usable vehicles.
Will check it out! thanks!
Seems pretty neat
5:24 was that music playing there the anthem of Sovjet Tajikistan?
I would love if you made a playthrough of this mod on your channel
Hi Cheeki Breeki, please advise if this mod has an invincible mode? Thanks and Regards Joe
Nice vid, never knew about this one, mite well give it a try, been playing GAMMA for to long!
Ahahhh same here! GAMMA is amazing but having a bit of something different is great too!
4:12 is an Oblivion reference, even the dialogue is the same
you should play stalker the journey. Its easy to install and no bugs. It has new maps and a good story. I like it
It's on my list! Just need to find the time xD
Cool!
One of my favourite mods is SGM
SIGEROUS? never heard of it, I need to check this out!
Wait there is new translation? Oh good
more people will know this mod yay :D
That's the goal yeah :D
SGM(Sigerous) ver. 2.1 it's a great mod for Call of Pripyat you should play it and review it.
common bluescreens of death while playing ''unexpected store exception''
Is the new Winds of Time translation actually good, does it seem like decent English, is it easy to follow the story and understand everything? I tried watching someone's playthrough of Winds of Time but they did it in April 2020, before the better English patch, which came out later in December. The poor translation put me off, it was very difficult to follow, i liked the youtuber and the concept of the mod excited me, but I didnt even finish watching one episode of the playthrough. I found another playthrough by someone else done just 6 months ago... but the English translation seemed similarly bad! Maybe that person still had the old bad translation for some reason? It amazes me that a good translation has been out for 2 years but no-one on UA-cam has done a playthrough of it!
Yup translation is perfect now, no complaints about it
tip: if your at red forest at night dont get close to bushies or tree leaves thats how i travelled at night be safe stalkers
I beaten this last year it is a great mod
what differences whit vanilla cop?
@@faydulaksono its a good story to follow u till the end game play os updated combat was fun not like the random death I get in og
@@emanuelarriaza3710 thanks
I liked Wind of Time, but I feel like if Deminov actually returned back to the future it would've been cooler, and it kinda sucks how you can't go to Dead City and Rostok except in two quests.
You should check out the G.O.L.D.S.P.H.E.R.E. mod. It's kind of unbearable and translation is bad, but it's solely based on the book Roadside Picnic and you encounter various things that I've never seen in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mods like a doll with a soul trapped in it (who you can talk to do their quests, get advice for the zone and the quests you currently have), an anomaly variety that is just insane, weird artifacts, weird puzzles (in one puzzle you have to help a skeleton with his coin collection).
This mod makes the Zone you knew previously more hostile than ever. This mod is also interesting because running into NPCs while going around the Zone is rare and you mostly face mutants.
You will like it a lot more if you read Roadside Picnic before. This mod is basicly a game version of Roadside Picnic.
Yeah Goldsphere is one im gonna try soon! Your comment made me want to test it even harder!
@@CheekiBreekiTv There is a hand translation underway in the C-Con discord which will have an open beta test in November, I'd wait for that
@@lelop2770 That's nice to hear! Could you tell me how one could get access to this server? (I assume the link for the translation would be there)
so, how DO you get to the Dead City?
Space anomaly is excellent also. You can also try Thorny way
Space Anomaly is on my list, never heard of Thorny way though, definitely gonna check it out! thanks
@@CheekiBreekiTv By the way have you try stalcraft, it is very nice and faithful to truth stalker, i am fucking adict despite the minecrafty caractere and world buldingd
Building*
@@Slevin91120 ahahh ok, never heard of it, gonna check it out!
Pls make a video about call of chanobyl or lost Alpha
Started playing this
All good so far except every time I encounter a controller and die and reload the save the tunnel wind controller presence sound effect doesn’t go away unless I move to another map
If someone has any ideas how to fix I’ll thankfully hear :P
@@joshuagraham3287 move to another map?
It's actually a common issue not just for WoT but many mods, had to do with something engine related. Can't do anything about it unfortunately besides restarting game / changing maps
@@CheekiBreekiTv Ah oke
Thx anyways and nice coverage of the mod in the video btw I’m enjoying it a lot so far
this mod was based in a old tv series iirc. sadly i dont remember that tv show name :(
Oh really? I had no idea! If you recall the name let me now im kinda curious
@@CheekiBreekiTv my bad, the basement with the time machine was originally an easter egg located in Limansk. It was a reference to "Guest from the Future", an old TV show. The mod used that location to start off the "travel to the past" part
The English translation of the mod is not very... good maybe? It's confusing.
They can duty, duty, but they also call it debtors maybe. I have no idea what much of what the characters say. Some of it makes sense, some of it doesn't. Some of the names are in quotations, which may suggest that it's intentional, but I do not know. It's confusing.
"I am a sissy"
Also plays Gamma on Ironman
When is the Ironman video coming up?
Soon :D I'm working on something else for next week, but after that its gonna be the ironman playthrough exclusively for a while!
So is this a straight Call of Pripyat mod and not part of the Stalker Anomaly?
Yeah its based on CoP, nothing to do with Anomaly!
may i ask where you are from?
Lol don’t be embarrassed to play on easy, enjoy the stalker the way you want and don’t let the fun police tell you how to have fun
Tu es francais
un chouilla
I absolutely loved this mod, but my main issues with the game were the... constant crashing, and the difficult story.
Difficult, not in the sense that gunfight is hard, but more in the sense that, you can so easily do something wrong and completely soft lock the game.
