I'm from Sweden and can say that an overwhelming majority of people here don't hate Russians. However, we are very afraid of what might happen if Russian soldiers come here. There is a complete lack of trust in your state and it's army. We love our country and we will do everything we can to protect it, including joining NATO.

I'm Belarusian-American, so I understand the frustrations of Russian and Belarusians being blamed for invasion of Ukraine when in reality, they can't stop it. But I'm frustrated that decades of Russians and Belarusians supporting corrupt politicians and propaganda has allowed this to happen. Russia and Belarus could be prospering with all the natural resources and amazing ingenuity of the people. Instead, only the oligarchs benefit. The Soviet Army and Stalin were just as bad as the Nazis - with the mass torture of civilians and genocide. So, no wonder what's happening in Ukraine is happening. It's the status quo for the Russians. The Russian General now leading their war against Ukraine believes "the main task is not the physical destruction of the enemy, but the complete subordination of him to one’s will." This means killing civilians, destroying towns until no one resists to turn people sheep who comply with orders. Is that really what any young people in Russia want their military or country to represent? Does anyone in Russia want to cheer victory parades for the WWII heroes who raped every woman in Berlin from the age of 2 to 90? There is a culture shift that needs to happen, because it didn't happen after WWII or the fall of the Soviet Union. There's many young Russians who don't feel this way. There are young Belarusians standing up to Lukashenka. But more need to stand up to this entire culture of just allowing themselves to be beaten down sheep that allow their government to kill and rape at will.

as a ukrainian that's what i've been trying to say to all the people justifying russians' generally indifferent attitude towards what their governments has been doing for decades and especially now. how can you live so unbothered and consider yourself ''out of politics'' when this is your reality? russia really needs a huge change of mentality because it has been going in the wrong direction for years.
As Lermontov once wrote: ''Farewell, unwashed Russia, Land of slaves, land of masters, And you, blue uniforms, And you, people, devoted to them. Perhaps beyond the wall of the Caucasus, I will hide from your pashas, From their all-seeing eye, From their all-hearing ears.''

    • @toadd
      @toadd 2 роки тому +36

I would like to add my voice to yours and, on top of that, add this:
I understand that it is hard to live under an oppressive regime. I understand that you can feel powerless to make any kind of change to the point where you decide to give up and just go on with your life regardless of who is in charge and what they do. We see it happening in every video posted on this channel. How many times have you seen people answer "I am apolitical" to every sort of question?
If you take such stance though, it still means that the status quo is good enough for you. It means that you chose to stay as a cog and keep the current machine running. In other words, there is no real neutral. There is only pro or against.
When you chose to stay as a cog in a system that is grinding only yourself, I am fine with it. But when innocents are paying the price for your apathy, that is where I personally draw the line. This is why I can't empathise with the average Russian and this is why not only I favor the sanctions but I want them to be even more strict. Russia cannot stay as it is. Putin needs to go. Russia needs to change.

I mean, it's totaly wrong saying that we did nothing. We did our best before the war and if you look at the statistics, peoples opinion have changed drastically after 2014. Our people from opposition got more power in government and if we had more time, then putin and his friends would've lost power for sure. But he decided to attack now, because he felt that this is his the only and best opportunity to hold for the throne.
So basically, because he attacked now, opposition is in a pretty bad place to go on the meeting or taking power by force:
      1. Navalny is in prison, other leaders of opposition fled from russia
      2. A lot of ordinary people still believes in putin and his "special operation"
      3. Army and the police are still defending putin like a good puppies
      4. Putin still getting money from the US and West
      5. A lot of people immigrated from russia
      6. Incredebly high risks for anyone who oppose the war now
We still have 3 conditions for the win
      1. We have to win informational war

I'm from Sweden and for a couple of weeks we have talked a lot about Russia and Ukraine. I can't recall that I talked to anyone that is negative about the Russian people. But everyone I talk to really hates the Russian leaders.
However I have noticed a change during the last couple of weeks. More and more people I talk to think that the Russian people are weak and that would be the explanation for why Russians accept the oppression and the leaders that does what president P does.
But what I think could change the current positive view we have of the Russian people is that the war goes on for a long time. More and more people say that the Russian people have to start reacting and protest or start a revolution to end the war and their own oppression.
I also notice that people are more for harder sanctions against Russia. And just so Russians understand, we also suffer from the sanctions but it's nothing compared with how much the Ukrainians suffer right now and to stop that is the main goal right now.

Here in Poland , we don't hate Russia but we'd rather keep it on distance.. In our country the memory of both war and communism is very vivid. Passed on by grandparents, at school, at home, the history is still on people's lips. Almost everyone says the same thing: "Germans were bad, but Russians were even worse. The German came, stole and kill. The Russian would come, steal, rape, torture, set fires, and then kill."
To this day we cannot forget Yalta, how the so called "allies" sold us out to communist Russia. The war was horrible. People died, buildings were bombed, but our identity remained. Unfortunately, the Russians came to knock out the identity. Communism killed the beauty, art, and lyricism in us. We did not forget that. We learned to live with it. That is why today we defend Ukraine and are afraid of Russia. "Big brother", who sets everyone up according to his own will. NO. No more such despotism. Live and let others live. And no, we don't hate Russians! But for God's sake, protest, stand up, fight for truth and freedom! You can't be "neutral"! Otherwise, history will judge you sitting on the same bench with Putin.

I cannot imagine what it was like being under the Russians for so long. No country should have to go back to that. We all need to stand with Ukraine now no matter what, and that includes all the people in Russia. I still can’t believe how gullible so many of them are after the world they lived in under Communism. It just makes no sense why they are being like this to me. If I saw what was happening I would know immediately but it was bad, yet surely if they can see that things are ‘returning to hell they were under total state control’ (including those who lived under it who are of the old guard), then they would know that it is a bad thing just as much of the young generation does. If Russians don’t have the guts to stand up and fight this, even if it puts themselves at risk, then they buy extension will make themselves just as guilty in the long run as the soldiers that marched through the streets of another country in the eyes of the global community. We do not hate ‘all Russians’, but that number will only expand with time unfortunately if this continues on.

I am Scandinavian, and we treat any Russian in our country with respect as usual. I am sorry but it is really appropriate at this point to compare with Germany in 1939/1940. A big country started a war against smaller nations, and their soldiers were brutal, just like we have seen the last 2 months. All Germans who left Germany just before or in the beginning of the war was welcomed in other countries without hatered. But as the attacks continued and the killing of innocent people by the hands of the nazis continued, this changed very fast. My father who was a young man during WWII hated all the Germans who stayed in Germany and thereby supported Hitler and their army's aggression. Only in the mid 1970's (25-30 years after the war) he started to forgive the Germans. So dear Russians, you really need to try to do something now about the situation, or leave Russia as soon as possible, or you will also personally be hated, if this continues much longer. Right now we understand it is your politicians being aggressive, but it is also your fathers, brothers and sons who are killing innocent people in Ukraine - please remember this.

I live at southern tip of Africa .... (and have lived, worked, played on every continent and >70 countries)
My perspective is that "Putin" has been made into a Hollywood Monster ... because:
      - He brought Russia back from truly disastrous economy, oligarchy and western "shock therapy" that was actually rape and plunder
      - He has restored the culture in respect of honouring Orthodox Christianity, the strong REAL Islam, (non-perverted for making 'jihadi' terrorists - as done with Saud Mujahidin in Afghanistan .... extremist proxy forces who became al Queda ... and now Anglos doing the same with Pravi Sektor Bandera Nazi extremists in Ukraine),
and the recovery and giving respect for all >190 ethnic groups in Russia ..... The people of Crimea speak of immense improvement in their lives .... Even the Tartars
      - He is a highly intelligent and moral person .... When I look at Russian intervention in Syria, I am truly grateful. (AngloNATO using proxy terrorists there in a heinous dirty war) ... and wish Russia had recovered enough to save Libya from what was done by AngloNATO
      - He is not a neo-liberal ... where there is actually a great deal done for the people ... the ru medical, education, cultural provisions are excellent ... and family values etc promoted.
I am Anglo Colonial of Africa.
I'd rather do fair 'win-win' business with Russia and China than with Anglo-NATO nations - who bully, bribe, blackmail .. and bomb to be able to profiteer and plunder.
Even Sweden was in on a mega bribery and corruption arms deal here ... and we have Toll roads where 70c of each local $ gets paid to the Swedish company ....

@Trawl Youu think of that putin and his crazy gang obsessed with money, power and blood are not the only ones who were already born in Russia.
There are many peacefull, nice, smart and civilized people. They're just not so loudmouth, not so much noticed by you. But why? Why are they not valuable for you?
Just because someone's in power now does not make him the whole Russia.
Many countries of Europe have the history of invasions, agression etc. So what? You had your time to manage that deal. We're still in process. Yes, it is terrible.
And you know just fine how hard it can be.
But instead of understanding or help - you're calling people to drown us, plus humiliate us. All of us and the kids - for kinda sins of either our inner enemies and criminals even on our own laws, or our far ancestors. (I'm saying "kinda" here because kinda every more or less mighty country was doing this same disgraceful shit in previous times. But who cares?)
I just wonder.. is it actually knowledge and sanity, and sense of justice driving your thoughts? Or is it just fear and hate?
      Oh, and..
We've been screaming for years: "he is a thief and a killer! You all know that! Stop acting like he's ok! Stop giving him money for our national teasures!" But... Well sure, while the resources of this land were needed to Europe, putin and the gang were just fine for everyone, weren't they? And now - all of a sudden - we, people of Russia, should pay for his and whole 1st worlds mistakes.. again.
It's soooo nice of you guys).
      Just a couple of questions.
      1. When and how and to who did sanctions ever Help?
      2. How are you going to disarm this nuclear madman?
Weapon supplies are cool, but noone dares to send their army and do something to the bastard now. Ukraine is the only country Acting.
I mean, how exactly are you planing to do what you're implying?
      3. China will sure as hell get this falling piece of Earth. At least it's most valuable parts. It's doing so already. Are you ok with it?
      4. Just in case..
Are the guys that Euro's gonna buy oil and gas from (till they become fully green in 2030 or so).. that much democracies? Are they good enough? Or are you just gonna be feeding the next psychopaths?

The worst response from those war supporters is why people didn't talk about the 8 years bombing in Donbass, the war in Iraq and even mentioned the bomb in Hiroshima. They think they are knowledgeable and smart but actually that's just a way not wanting to face the truth and fact. Ask yourself, did you do anything when that happened? the answer would be no, because no matter what's happening, those people are the most selfish and self-centered ones. And they obviously know those wars are bad and should be condemned, then why don't they also condemn the current Russian invasion and aggression? Instead, they use other wrong doings to justify their current behavior and ideology. That's the most irresponsible and ignorant response.

I’m Russian. I have been to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland two weeks ago. Before the trip and some first days of it I were really scary about the relation to me as a Russian citizen. I can say I didn’t meet any hating to me from people while my travel. If somebody wanted to know where I’m from, I never lied. Firstly they were confused, then people were asking me what I’m doing here at this time. One Polish man was really kind to me, honestly it was touching. Somebody asked am I scary about I’m in Europe with current situation. Ones cashier in Kebab reacted to me with negative, but I can understand that. In general, I met Estonia’s, Latvia’s, Lithuania’s, Polish, American, Ukrainian people and almost didn’t feel any hate, even most of them were nice.
    Update: Jan.28th. 2023.
Summer 2022 I went to Armenia, Qatar, UAE. Besides I have lived in USA 4 months in 2022. So, still no hate. People were sorry that I’m a participant of this bullshit just because I have Russian passport. Make love, not war.
