    If paint is dry? Use hot water and something to scrape it off with, be careful though because it will affect the acrylics like melted plastic so you may have to remove more than you want to. I've just done a stencil with acrylics and need to remove fine lines so I dampen it with hot water leave it for a minute then I used a nail to scrape off the fine details.

    This was SO helpful! Wish I could post before and after pics of a mistake I made on a nursery painting for my baby! This helped relieve the immediate panic I felt when I realized I’d botched my hard work! I used the “water lifting” technique to remove some flowers and it looks so much better!

    All the tricks shown is pretty easy, almost every body knows it. What i want is when the paint is hard and dead dry, that's what I am looking for

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  4 роки тому +3

      Usually when that happens, I first try to get it wet and let it soak a little bit, and then try to get it off. If there is no hope at getting it off, then I just do my best to paint over it. But when you paint over it, you have to remember that it will dry a little bit darker than how it looks when it's wet - so if, for example, you're trying to paint over something with the background color, you'll want it to look a little bit lighter than what actually looks right. I hope that helps!

    How can I fix my acrylic on canvas design that has already dried?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  5 років тому +29

      Hi! If it already dried, you'd probably just need to paint over it. Sometimes when you try to paint over it, the paint is too thin to cover - in that case, I mix the color I'm using with white, and do a few coats of that first, to get good opaque coverage. Then do a final coat of just the color you want (e.g., for orange, do a few coats of orange + white first so it covers better). Hope that helps!

    How cool! I've been using matte medium for years for altered art projects as a glue and sealant, but I never knew it did that as well! More great tips! But why didn't you ever finish that painting? That background is gorgeous!

      Hi Christy! Sorry, I just saw this comment! That's really interesting that you used it as glue and sealant! I've actually wondered whether it would be good to use as sealant, so now I know! That's pretty cool. I didn't finish the painting! Ha ha. Maybe eventually though!

    Thank you. Very helpful. How do you fix mistakes where you have a background of a single colour, but because of different amounts of paint in different places, it looks uneven?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  2 роки тому

      If you can't remove the mistake, then I'd probably paint over it with the background color and try to do my best to blend it with the existing background. You'd probably have to re-paint over some of the existing background to make it look cohesive. You can also thin down the paint with matte medium to blend it better as well.

    What if it's a dark color on a lighter color? How do you remove the dark color from the lighter one?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  5 років тому +1

      I do the same thing, the first step is always to remove as much as you can with a wet brush. After that you may have a little bit of touching up to do with the lighter color, or you may even get ALL the darker color off (depending on if you caught it quickly enough where it didn't dry into the canvas) and then you don't have to touch up at all. Does that help?

      Once it's dry, you can't do too much except paint over it. You CAN try getting as much off as you can with soap and water, but in the end you'll just have to paint over it :-[ good luck!!

      I tried my first acrylic painting on a canvas for a project but entirely messed it up. Can I paint something else on the whole thing? Or will the old dried paint still show through?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  5 років тому

      If you painted it thick, it might show through. Try washing the canvas with soap and water first to get as much off as you can. Then paint over it with white.

    Can I touch up a painting after it is varnished?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  2 роки тому

      I wouldn't, but if it's absolutely necessary I would try very softly wet sanding the area you want to touch up (dip your very fine sandpaper in water then sand lightly - thanks to April Heather Art who originally gave me this tip for murals years ago!), then touch it up, and then reapply your sealant. I use this technique when I seal with Minwax Polycryclic. Your results may vary depending on what sealant you are using.

    Is there a way to fix or cover little “pimple” that show up on my canvas once the paint dries? I thought about just doing some modeling paste with palette knife but that’d mean I’d have to make the whole painting a palette knife painting and I’m trying to keep it impressionistic :(

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  Рік тому

      Hi Natalie, did you first try just lightly brushing with a wet paint brush and then wiping softly with a paper towel? You could also try lightly wet sanding - maybe even with a magic eraser which would be more gentle than sandpaper. Make canvas and the magic eraser wet and then lightly rub.

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  Рік тому

      Also, I should add that you can test these techniques on a separate canvas where you recreate the mistake, and then if the techniques fail you didn't run your painting even more.
      Also you may need to take some of it off and then repaint over that area if possible.

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  3 роки тому

      One thing I've found that works for me is getting the spot wet, and then rubbing with an eraser! The key is to make sure you get the background wet first. (And if you made the mistake recently, not like a week ago)

    • @HeatherCashArt
