Is that what the penalties mean at 3:45? I heard "Double minor and a 5-minute max penalty". What does that mean? 5 minutes in the penalty box?
@@marquizzo Minor penalties are two minutes in length. During that time they are in the penalty box and thier team is shorthanded one man for 2 minutes. Minor penalties end after a goal by the other team. Major penalties are 5 minutes and are not ended by goals so it's essentially 5 on 4 for 5 minutes. A good way to lose a game for your team. The suspension was assessed after the game so those penalties were only in game. Hope that makes sense.
@@marquizzopenalties are just during the game, safety committee of NHL reviewed it and gave him the 5 game suspension

What makes this even funnier is that back in the day, Tkachuk and Lemieux's dads fought each other when they were in the NHL, I guess this is a family feud with some extra biting involved.
Their dads were also teammates (in Phoenix). The NHL is a small world.
Matthew has been involved with Brendan Lemieux a bit as well. And Keith and Claude were going at it during international play, though during those times nastiness was still a little more acceptable.
Holy fucking shit I couldn't even watch half the video due to laughing hysterically at Tkachuk just being absolutely dumbfounded by the absurdity of a grown ass man biting his hands in a fist fight. This one right here is an all-time great breakdown, truly.

Brendan Lemieux ended up getting a five game suspension for this. He definitely deserved it after what he pulled.
Should be more. A bad hit that happens in a flash during play and results in bad injury is one thing, and often leads to suspensions of this length. Deciding to bite a guy multiple times while he is tied up by the officials is ticking time bomb level nuts. Dude will do something worse soon enough and will cause more damage than bite marks and a few bruises.
Didn't he say Tkachuk had his fingers in his eyes though? I'd bite someone if they were trying to eye gouge me
@@rhysduncan8676 that might be why he ONLY got 5, a little benefit of the doubt if he claims that. But I also haven’t heard him tell the media Tkachuk went for his eyes, so it must have either not happened or been very minor (if he has said something about it to the media, someone let me know)

Just to be picky: referees are not responsible for breaking up fights; that is the responsibility of the linesmen.
And you can tell the difference by looking for the orange bands on the sleeves - those belong to referees.
As soon as I saw this, I knew Jomboy would do a breakdown, I really needed to know what they were saying in the box. I'm assuming Lemieux was talking to Tkachuk about his contract he signed at the beginning of the season, Tkachuk cashed out and became the Captain of Ottawa.

I completely disagree. A fight is a fight. It’s not supposed to be fair or fun. If the sport supports fighting, then it inherently supports this. If I’m getting my ass kicked the last thing I care about is whether or not you think what I’m doing is sporting or not.
@@shrimp19921 combat sports have rules though. hockey fights have rules. for instance you cant take off your helmet. the fight is over when it goes to the ground etc.

I've seen a match penalty. I've seen a 5 minute major penalty. I've never seen a 5 minute match penalty. I'm assuming the match penalty meant Lemieux was ejected while another player had to serve his double minor and the major penalty. Does anyone know if the player who served his penalties had to be one of the players on ice at the time? Like in the case of a penalty against a goalie?
I was at the game, I believe Grundstrom had served the penalty, Sens fan so I don't know for sure, I just remembered 91. Looking at the video it doesn't seem like he was on the ice.
It's got to be pretty bad for a 5 minute major to be assigned as well as a match penalty. The player who serves the penalty does not have to be on the ice at the time. I ended up serving a penalty for my goalie (slashing) even though I was on the bench. Odd fact, you do need to enter the penalty box from the ice. So I skated from the bench to the penalty box.
