Living Off the Grid in Paradise

- Warrick Mitchell lives deep in one of the world's most remote locations: Fiordland, New Zealand. His home in the country’s oldest national park is nestled in a vast wildness accessible only by boat or airplane, a four day's walk from the nearest road. Life in isolation can be hard, but surrounded by breathtaking, pristine natural beauty, plentiful wildlife and a small but tight-knit community that is always willing to lend a hand, Mitchell would have it no other way.

That sounds like something I'd want to try for a month, but not something I could live doing. It's amazing how different people's lives are from one another.
I love this channel.
I love it too. There's one guy on this channel that makes supercars from old car parts. His car was even featured in suicide squad.

New Zealand is seriously one of the most beautiful places on Earth. You get the alpine mountains of Switzerland, the volcanic peaks of Chile, the fjords of Norway, the rugged coastline of Oregon, and the lovely green hills of England, all in a secluded stretch of land in the middle of the ocean, overlooked by many. I'll visit New Zealand one day. One day..
And a lot of us Kiwi's take it for granted. But please come visit! One of our biggest industries is tourism and it's a great country for it.

I spent a few years living in the Mark Twain National Forest. I cut up trees for heat and cooking, and lived off the grid. Fishing and Hunting for food. I now find myself watching UA-cam on my Note9 and eating KFC. I feel like crap, I have a ton of debt, and work for someone else. Sometimes I wish I was still living in the woods, but am pretty sure my indoor, xbox playing, modern day loving kids wouldn't survive more than a week. I married a city girl, 17 years ago and live in Tampa now. My life has gone through some BIG changes. 🤦🏻♂️
Sounds like you could have some pretty awesome camping trips! Could try to show your kids your passion for the wilds? I know I love to hear anyone be passionate, especially when it's family. Just make sure to focus on showing them what you love, not just enjoying it for yourself! (though nothing wrong with a break back to your basics once in awhile)
You can teach a modern kid to live in nature and there are a bunch of modern families who live off grid. It’s all about passion towards nature and environment, if they don’t have it they won’t like living off grid. Also im sure you still have time to change your life style.
I envy them so much. They are living the true purpose of life.
Kobe Robertson nothing deep about his comment i envy the freedom this guy has
@Kobe Robertson Haha I agree, although what is life to you, or to I?
It's something so precious to some, but to others it's just there, nothing.
Why live a life of serving others, eating junk food and having unlimited entertainment, when you can live off the land, spend your entire day outside appreciating nature, and experiencing everything our ancestors have.
I dont believe in any of that, remember that time where, before you were born, that pure darkness and unmoving feeling of relaxation, the feeling of not being aware, I'm sure its comparative to death itself, which is glory.
I believe death will be true freedom in itself, no longer shackled by petty things such as work, food, thirst, sanity.
Take a larger look outside, and think, "Is this real?"
There is no such thing as living with pure FREEDOM, I laugh whenever kids or uneducated adults/teens think their free because they live remotely, far away from natural civilization, clouded with the thought of technology is shackles, when truth be told, the shackles are life itself.
Pain will forever be with you, you're only a slave to your desires, such a pathetic life for such a creature, truly a misery beyond comparison I believe..
Stop envying..... get out there!! GET out in our beautiful 🌎✌😎
@Kobe Robertson notice how no one agrees with you? Haha you tool bag. NO ONE AGREES WITH THE IDIOT.
Im from the philippines, life in here revolves around money. For me, the true purpose of life is subjective. To my perspective, it is the true purpose of life and it may differ from your perspective. If you disagree or agree with me , i dont care. Thats your opinion, and everyone can stand to their opinions. Im not making it deep, im just contemplating of "what ifs" that i should have done in my life. And i truly envy them.

Most beautiful country in the world bar none. 💗 from England.
My wife and I live in the US and she also works in NZ. She loves it there and it's beautiful in some areas for sure, but in many ways we prefer the US. It's good to be able to split time between both.
@@ninjaturtles3043 It's no perfect paradise. Not by a long shot. We're still living in a bunch of tiny isolated islands between two tectonic plates. It is pretty beautiful outside of the cities, the air is clear, and the wildlife are mostly friendly and gorgeous. But it can still be a bit of a backwater, have some of the highest domestic violence and teen pregnancy rates in the world, and every human has the capability of being a complete prick.

Absolutely! Let's all go! If enough of us do it we can band together, maybe build some roads, a store, maybe a McDonalds and a Starbucks? Is there enough coal there for a power plant, or should we go nuclear?
Beautiful! Truly fascinating.
When I was younger, I've always wanted to be stuck in the jungle for some time. I would imagine myself struggling to find food and water, creating a cozy place to sleep, surviving everyday, and experiencing the true beauty of nature. And of course hopefully no snakes.
But now that I grew older, I started to fear a lot of things like worms, caterpillars, spiders, literally almost everything out there. I'm kind of a germophobe so... I'm afraid but I still want to go hiking and camping in the forest for a week with my friends someday. I wish I can.
Thank you for showing the picture of him surfing. As a kiwi that relieved me soo much
What a gift to be able to catch/harvest and prepare all of your own food. He must be one of the happiest people on earth
Oh this is the dream... New Zealand's wilderness is breathtakingly beautiful 💕
I'm moving to NZ and just live off the land like these guys must be nice to be able to have access to land without any hassle.
Go for it bud. Living off-the-grid is the most beautiful lifestyle. No stress. Just you and the nature. I wish you good luck. I also wanna live off-the-grid. Probably in Canada.
Such a lifestyle is very expensive tho :>
@yugen dran Water and electricity absolutely isn't free. All resources aren't free. You just either pay for them with representative effort by spending money or real effort by building infrastructure... Which also takes some money as well for the carefully crafted materials and components.
In these terms, everything about living off the grid is _insanely_ expensive, astronomically more than modern living, even just for day-to-day stuff.
What a pristine environment. How marvelous! Here, one is reminded daily, as we should be, that it's not the land that belongs to you, it's you that belong to the land.. xx..
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!
The timing of this video is impeccable. When a world pandemic occurs, go off grid
Man how I wish I could live like that, but I know I won't last out there. I really envy this guy; he's living life the way it should be lived - with nature.

I got to have this kind of experience on a small island in lower Alaska when I was 8. We went to help our friends family set up their home and we got to stay for 6 months. I still remember so much from that trip
Off grid .. speed boats... House... Fridge...planes.. More like he's living off in another place.
off grid I think not.
Has to be said again boooo
It means off the power grid dumbass so yes he’s very much off the grid.
😂so he uses items made by on grid companies.. camera plane boats etc etc and then takes them to a remote place and says i live off grid now😂what does he use as fuel!!! Pebbles off the beach . Don't be so stupid 😂
Has to be said again Can we just agree that he’s living alone away from society and providing for himself off the land his entertainment and food. Yeah he has some technology and tools, but he’s basically isolated out there and away from everyone (for the most part). Right now he’s probably sipping some coffee cooking fish for breakfast.
@@josevillanueva7601 ok since you put it so elegantly.. he's off grid👍😂

his life is just as repetitive, its human nature to be. Trust me after a year of living there youd get tired of the same old stuff. But I get your point, the city fucking sucks.
I'm an environmental scientist, I used to live in a small town in the woods. I moved to the city for work and miss being out in nature a lot. You are living the dream!

Except convicted felons should not have access to a gun, as 77% of prisoners reoffended within 5 years, according to the American BJS.
That is all well and good... but what happened to your original post, eh? But, yes, I should have elaborated on my comment as I understand in some rural areas of your country a gun can be essential, and the laws pertaining to gun ownership should relate to the crime committed.
Why would you need a gun in New Zealand? there are literally no dangerous animals and there are so few gun homicides you can count the amount nationwide on 2 hands on a bad year. Fair enough if you, like this video, need one to hunt but the only other reason to have one is because you're a scared little boy.
I just want a life like this! 😮
That was absolutely enthralling to witness.
I dont know how much it would take to come to New Zealand and live this life. But it has been my biggest dream to escape my current life and go ther , live this life , eversince i saw this video for the firs t time in 2018.♥️
